Clearly, they decided that their $60 was better spent on COD. I hope they enjoy that blue light of death while playing it.

    As do I.

"Let's spend over $400 on a next-gen system and let's also make sure that we buy a dull, repetitive game that lacks energy and spice, but one that's also on current-gen systems! It's money spent well."

If it weren't for the fact that I prefer Uncharted, Infamous and Killzone over Halo, Gears of War and Something Else that Clearly Needs to Go Here So I Can Compare Three Games From Each Console, I'd be hopping onto the Xbox One, now that all their bullsh*t policies have been reversed. After all, the Xbox One does have one launch title that interests me, while the PS4 needs to wait a few months.

Once I hit it rich, I'll get both.

That's what it boils down to, for me, at least: whichever system allows me to fluently chat with friends cross-game, and whichever system has the better games will get my money. So far, looks like it's the XB1, but I don't know. Even those exclusives aren't terribly exciting, so I have no idea when I'll pick up a next-gen system.

#1 is 'Ghosts.' Unbelievable. At least 'Minecraft' is still getting love after being out for such a long while on the 360. I don't think there's a single game coming out that interests me for current-gen (or next-gen, even) for a long, long while.

I'm sure 'Battlefield 4' (which is getting better and better, but they need to release the patch) and the Premium map packs will keep me interested.

I don't know what gamers get so upset them their console breaks down, as teething problems should always be expected. This is why I never bother buying any console as soon as it hits the market. That and I want there to be a decent size catalogue of games. No, I won't be buying a PS4 just yet.

@MajorDSmythe, that's how I feel. If you make the switch now for only a few games, what happens if they're disappointing or you beat them and there's nothing left to do? You're stuck.

Regarding yearly releases: I'd argue that Assassin's Creed changes more often than the likes of Uncharted, GTA, Batman and Battlefield.

Why do people so worked up over COD selling well? I can see why people don't like it but then why does it matter if others do, how is it disgusting and why do people deserve to have their brand new console break for buying a game they like? Just play what you want and enjoy it.

It's gotten to the point now where the ridiculous amount of hate for Call Of Duty is starting to annoy me more than the actual COD fanboys.

I get worked up because people are, knowingly, spending top dollar on the same g*ddamn thing they spent top dollar on last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that. I have absolutely no problem with people liking COD. I like to play COD on occasion. These people truly make it their one and only goal in life to be at the top of the heap on a game that hackers and cheaters break within ten hours. There's plenty of fish in the sea, stop trying to catch the same carp you caught the last time you went fishing.

If COD were released year after year for $10, $15, I'd even go $20, I wouldn't mind, but these people are paying full price for map packs and a couple new weapons, with a two-four hour single-player storyline thrown in for good measure. Even if COD were released at reduced prices, Activision would still make the same money they make for it now, and they wouldn't be lowering the bar. Games would be worth their price again, something they haven't been ever since COD dominated the market. But, because COD is the top seller, more and more games strive to be COD, and gaming as a whole has been downgraded as a result.

I do play what I like, and I do enjoy what I play, but COD being the top seller when other games deserve it is just depressing.

@thelivingroyale, I've played every CoD game. I'm not "hating on CoD to be cool" or just overall hating the series in general. I've only truly been absolutely disgusted by the last three games, and while I can't stand that year after year, the series continues to be the same thing to make a buck, it's the fans that annoy me. The same ones that will buy the game, play it, hate it, curse the game and IW/Treyarch, swear off CoD forever, just to be the first one in line at the midnight release of the next one.

Stop. Giving. Them. Money. I picked it up with credit used so they wouldn't see a cent of my money, I gave the MP a few hours of play time, and only really got it to beat the SP on Veteran like I always do.

CoD deserves the hate it receives, and until it completely restarts from the ground up, it'll continue to receive that hate from me.

@Creasy47 You talk about fans complaining but still playing, aren't you doing exactly that? You say you hate it and you were disgusted by the last few, but you've played every game?

Yeah the developers won't be getting any money from you but then why not spend that credit on something you'll enjoy? Why play something you hate so much?

Well these people obviously enjoy it enough to buy it every year so they're getting their moneys worth. It's like with Saints Row 4, it might be petty similar to Saints Row 3 but the enjoyment I got out of it was definitely worth 40 quid.

Yes COD doesn't change much. But the fans who buy it full price must think they're getting their moneys worth, and nobody is forcing you to buy it, so what's the problem?

Avengers was the highest grossing film of 2012. I think that a couple of films last year deserved to earn more money than Avengers (Skyfall, The Raid and Django Unchained to name 3) but I'm not going to complain about it and I'm not going to complain every time a Marvel film comes out (and there seems to be at least two a year now), because even if they're not really to my taste, people obviously enjoy them if they keep making a billion dollars.

Except that, as @Creasy47 says, they're buying it and bitching about how it's the same damn game they played last year, then they jump on again the year after that. Even COD fans don't feel like they're getting their money's worth. (Plus, wasn't SR4 actually different from SR3? Wasn't SR3 straightforward with some comedy, but then wasn't SR4 just balls-to-the-wall comedy in an open-world setting?)

No, no one's forcing them to buy the new COD, you're right about that.

I'm not going to say The Avengers didn't deserve the money it got. It was the first super-hero cross-over film, and it had a lot to live up to and to prove, which it did. Superman/Batman (or whatever the hell it ends up being called) will have a lot to prove as well. There's quite a bit of difference there, because COD doesn't live up to itself year after year, and I'm speaking objectively, just as a fan of FPS. Each game is a let-down from the one before it. If that's to be defended, then gaming is truly dead.

I've stated it numerous times on this forum, I have completed every single CoD on Veteran difficulty. My buddy and I have (though he's missed two games, I believe), so it's kind of a thing of mine to always beat them on the hardest difficulty, no matter how repetitive or terrible the MP is. I got it used, with credit, so they get nothing from me and I spent nothing in the process. There's really nothing else for me to spend credit on: no new games interest me, it's used so I can return it for full credit within a week, and even if I don't beat it in that time, I can trade it in. Besides, typically when I get used games, I'm done with them in a week and return them for my full money back.

So in short, no, I'm not doing what they do. I don't stand in long lines or anticipate the next CoD, heartily throwing forth $63 of mine to moan and complain about it a day later, swear the franchise off, just to repeat my actions the following year. I got it, so of course I'll give the MP a shot - it was trash, as expected - but it's not the reason I got it. It's different than what the yearly idiots do.

@Agent007391, pretty much spot-on about SR4: balls-to-the-wall, ridiculousness with cheesy weapons and childish gadgets. I took a big pass on it, it looked ridiculous.

SR2 was straightforward with some comedy. SR3 was pretty much all out comedy but although it was funny, a lot of it was just sex jokes. SR4 was actually witty as well, definitely the funniest game I've ever played.

SR4 was pretty similar to SR3. The city was almost identical and although the new weapons and super powers were fun, gameplay otherwise wasn't that much different. But I really enjoyed it (more than GTA V actually), and therefore I got my moneys worth.

You're forgetting that most of CODs audience are people who don't frequent video game sites (where most of the bitching takes place).

I enjoyed Avengers but I think those films are getting a bit stale now and I thought other films deserved more money. Objectively I don't think COD is a bad game at all. It's smooth and fast, the graphics aren't bad, the campaign is explosive fun and while I don't really enjoy the multiplayer I don't think it's bad. It's quite well made and it has lots of customisation.

@Creasy47 So you continue to play them because you always have, even though you don't like them? Even if you get the credit back, why bother if you're not going to enjoy it?

I just don't understand why you continue to play it if you don't like it. Seems completely pointless to me.

No, actually I'm not. A lot of the bitching that I see comes from video game sites, an even amount compared to what I hear from people in the flesh, actually. Plus YouTube videos, a couple of Facebook posts (when a link leads me there, I don't actually use Facebook) and the odd Tweet.

I'm not saying you don't have a valid argument because I see where you're coming from here, but I think the majority of the fanbase is happy with the game, or else why would so many people buy it (and play it every day)? Even the people who complain and do 180s must be getting some enjoyment out of them.

If he does enjoy them then fair enough but he said he was disgusted by the last three games.

And witty humour and tons of nods, winks and old characters. It was a love letter to the fans and one of the few games that actually managed to be really funny. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

@thelivingroyale, didn't seem funny to me, and I watched hours of gameplay of it.

I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying: I don't care for the MP. It's the same damn thing over and over again, year after year. I typically enjoy the SP and will always beat each CoD on Veteran. MP = bad, SP = good. That's what I've been trying to say.

So why don't you want it to sell well? Just because you don't like the multiplayer? Spec Ops The Line had crap multiplayer but the single player was absolutely fantastic.

I played a bit of 'Spec Ops: The Line' MP and thought it was pretty entertaining for what it was worth. I wouldn't consider the CoD SP's "fantastic," but I still beat them on Veteran when each one releases. It's my thing.

Yes, hours. I was hot off of beating SR3 and debated getting it, so I watched some 'Let's Play' videos of it.

Judging by the people I've asked, most of them bought Spec Ops: The Line for its single-player (because people are suckers for main characters voiced by Nolan North), whereas 99.99% of the COD players out there buy it for the muiltiplayer.

I still need to get Spec. Ops: The Line. Heart of Darkness is one of my favorite stories, and Apocalypse Now one of my favorite films. The good thing is that the price should be down a great margin at this point. I remember downloading a demo of it long ago, playing it constantly and loving it. Plus, it has Nolan North in it.

It was a great game that had a lot of interesting morality choices in it. And of course, Nolan North.

@Agent007391, exactly. Almost everyone buys CoD for the MP, except for me and a select few I know, along with any others who get it for the same reason I do.

Well, if you haven't read it I'm not shocked that you didn't know that. If you even get the chance, read it. It's simply one of the most fascinating character studies you'll see, and it's very well written. Conrad has influenced some of my own writing in his own small way, so I owe his ability to create atmosphere and form interesting characters a lot. I recently finished a Vietnam set war story that pays small tribute to Heart of Darkness in some of its themes, and how the atmosphere, jungle and main protagonist are presented.

Some people have broken Xbox One consoles. Surprise surprise! This is one of the main reasons why I waited to get a next-gen system.

I have no sympathy for those people who will queue for hours just so they can be one of the first to tell everyone they know they have the new XBOX/PS4/iPOD etc. It's a status symbol that's all. There are already reports here in the UK of a mugging that took place last night as soon as the guy left the shop. That's over £400 down the toilet.

I don't understand this need that some people have they they must have it immediately. Pay over the odds for something that hasn't been fully tested and only a small supply of games available. Seems crazy to me.

@WillyGalore, exactly. Things are bound to be broken or buggy right at launch. After this recent string of games that have been disappointing thanks to game-ruining glitches, I'm holding off on all new products until all patches are released and (hopefully) a price drop is announced. This is ridiculous. Wait in line all night to buy a broken product. Probably the same people who did the same thing eight years ago with the 360 and got home to experience the RROD. I'd rather wait a year until everything is fixed and there are many more games to play with it. All it has are current-gen ports, 'Forza 5' (it does look great, I'll admit), 'Dead Rising 3' (which got mediocre reviews and doesn't look mind-blowing for next-gen), some Arcade games, and that's it. Is that really worth the money?
