2) Red Grant has Bond on his knees(not what you think) and has his gun in hand. Bond must think creatively as he is caught in yet another pickle.
1) Le Chiffre uses his tell on a good hand, dupes Bond, and the look on 007's face is brilliant. After the bout, all he can do is sit in place, stiff. Once again, thank you Felix for the investment.
2 > FRWL when GRANT and BOND exchange words on the train
3 > GF, CR in both cases both villains(GOLDFINGER, LeCHIFFRE) had BOND literally by the balls
GF (BOND on the table)
CR (BOND in the chair)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
4 > GE when 006(thought long dead) reveals himself to BOND
5 > TB, LARGO at the card table in the casino
6 > LALD when MR.BIG reveals to BOND that he's actually KANANGA
2. Goldfinger introduces Bond to laser technology.
1. Le Chiffre dies scratching Bond's balls.
:-))
In no particular order:
-Bond and Dr. Kananga in the Fillet of Soul basement
-Bond and General Orlov in the train car
-Bond and Dr. No at the dinner table
2. Largo seals the Shark Tank on Bond and his henchman
3. Goldfinger's laser machine
After that it gets really tough because I love 006 vs. 007 on the satellite and the train, Bond vs. Red Grant, and for some reason I have always been a big fan of Elektra almost killing Bond in TWINE then Zukovsky steps in. But the top three are no brainers for me.
Kananga moves in on Bond and Solitaire tied to the cradle with an unsheathed knife and begins to slice Bonds arm. The blood trickles and Kanangas eyes light up in pleasure.
"Observe Mr Bond.....the instruments of Armeggeddon.."
Those great submarines start inching their way out of Liparus while Anya and Bond watch helplessly. Strombergs voice echoes around the cavernous interior.
"You are not here to ask questions! You forget to whom you are speaking!"
A terrified Tania has the temerity to ask "why?" to a bullying Rosa Klebb. The SMERSH defectors voice is like a whipcrack and she brings her whisk down on the table hard.
I think if I were to wittle it down to three it would be these.
1. The cemetary scene in GE. The atmosphere built up prior to Bean's reveal is superb and the speech he gives ("only to come home, well done, good job but sorry old boy - everything you've risked your life and limb for has changed") captures the cynical side of old fashioned English patriotism wonderfully. Brosnan also does a great job in this scene despite not saying that much. It's one of the few times Bond looks genuinely shocked and lost for words.
(1.15 - "Hello James")
2. The shark tank scene in Spy. The juxtaposition here is wonderful as the soothing music (in the form of J.S. Bach) is being played over a terrified woman's screams. Kurt Jurgen's god-like voice booms over the speakers ("IT WAS YOU WHO BETRAYED ME! YOU HAD ACCESS TO ALL THE INFORMATION! NOW YOU WILL PAY THE PENALTY"). The scene is completed by a very dry line from Stronberg "once again gentlemen...my most profound thanks". Superb! Stromberg had relitively little screen-time but IMO he's an underrated villain.
3. The final meeting between Bloefeld, Klebb and Kronsteen in FRWL. Klebb looks terrified as she confronts the furious yet frightfully calm Blofeld. Kronsteen is his usual arrogant self ("who is Bond, compared with Kronsteen") and ultimately pays for it with the shoe ("12 seconds, one day we must invent a faster working venom"). Classic scene.
Honourable mentions:
-Corine's death in MR
-Dr No's speech in...Dr No
-The face off at the dinner table in TMWTGG - by far the best thing in the film.
-"look after Mr Bond, see that some harm comes to him"
-Dr Kaulfman in TND
-Electra King torturing Bond in TWINE (yep. I like that scene, mixes sex and death in very Bond-esque fashion).
-Le-Chiffe having the balls to torture Bond in Casino Royale
-Xenya Onatopp at the Grand Hotel in GE
-Anything Donald Pleseance says in YOLT
-THAT scene in GF
Also, how could I forget Bloefeld and Irma Bunt killing Tracy in OHMSS.
The fact that he had the power of life and death over his employees was very eerie and sold the power of SPECTRE. If they treated their employees this way how would they treat everyone else.
Proffesors Dents fear of Dr No, Klebbs fear of Blofeld and Osatos fear of Blofeld upped the ante somewhat.
As for Pleasance, Savalas and Gray - well, I love them all. Each of them have some great scenes and lines.
"Mr Bond, they told me you were assassinated in Hong Kong.."
"Yes, this is my second life.."
moves Hans out of the way.
"You only Live Twice, Mr Bond.."
"Now now Mr Bond you must be absolutely calm before we let you back into polite society.."
"As Roquefault once said, humility is the last form of conceit.."
Max Zorin: If you're the best they've got, they're more likely try and cover up your embarrassing incompetence.
Zorin is insane; he really is psychotic. I saw someone else say something about this yesterday, and didn't notice because I hadn't seen AVTAK in some time until last night. When Zorin fails at the end and is about to fall off of the Golden Gate Bridge, he smiles and laughs. He's crazy. It's almost as if he still beat Bond, whether his operation failed or not.
Bond: "Killing Tibbett was a mistake!"
Zorin: "I'm about to make the same mistake twice."
Dr.No and Bond's verbal exchanges at the dinner table
Bond at the mercy of Red Grant on the orient express
I personally think that Ourumov was an underused threat & shame he was killed before that geek Boris.
2 - Red Grant vs Bond on the train. What else can be said except classic.
3 - Yep have to mention Whitaker but when he both knocks 007 down with drawer & aims the canon the facial expressions made by Dalton hilarious each time. top marks for a kinda rushed ending.
