I think it's completely reasonable for a Bond fan to loathe the idea of EON selling. I don't like the sound of that as well. But if they must sell, it should be to the right Studio, that's the least a Bond fan can hope for. And the reason this talk of EON selling keeps coming up, it's because of the somewhat lethargic way EON have been churning out Bond films lately. And that makes Bond fans believe EON are not that interested anymore....Of course fans could be wrong thinking this way, but fans only reason like that when they feel it looks that way.

MGM and its financial troubles are the problem, much more than Eon.

I’d be interested to hear why you think Barbara is done? Especially with Gregg Wilson becoming more and more heavily involved in the films. I think it’s more likely that they’d want to keep it in the family and hand the films down like was done before.

Or sell it before Fleming's copyright runs out?

Quentin Tarantino needs to stay away from Bond, his ego wouldn't be able to cope with the constraints.

I say this as a QT fan but are growing tired this so called idea he knows everything, especially when he mocks Kincaid and calls him a farmer in that podcast.

QT would certainly not compromise, he wants his voice and vision stamped on everything, whereas I think Nolan could bend to it, although I question that as well. Dear QT is just in love with himself and thinks that no one knows things better than him.

His last 3 films have stunk of self importance and tested their viewers with their pretentiousness, OUATIH I enjoyed but best screenplay, are we having a laugh?

Better acting rang than Craig, have you seen his output, the series has never had a more versatile performer, take a look at his C.V.

I agree about Tarantino. His only real quality films were his first 2. After that the films became gradually more self indulgent, doing what Tarantino likes rather than what the audience likes.

I don't get the impression he is a huge Fleming fan either, wanting to return to the novels. He'd turn a Bond film into American trash, silly OTT violence, and I can imagine it would lack the elegance and British upper class elements needed.

Nolan is the only big director I would want to direct Bond.

+2, I would have only wanted to see QT’s CR adaptation. God forbid he would ever try to adapt LALD in his style! Spike Lee would have the ultimate fit! I would trust Christopher and Johnathan Nolan as writers, at least. We all know that CN would want to direct. As DV, I would trust him, but wait until after Dune is and see how big his name gets. EON won’t hire him if he gets too big, name wise. No matter where and who with next time James Bond goes, let’s just hope they don’t bring Neal Purvis and Robert Wade with them! When Martin Campbell did CR, he tried to fire them, for not strong material. Paul Haggis did the script as we like it.

I support Barbara and Michael G, and agree it would be a sad day if/when EON sells. However, I think the franchise is on the verge of an identity crisis. When you have two films in a decade and now facing potentially 6 years in between films, the public consciousness for Bond is definitely in a valley on the curve right now, especially with competition for viewing attention being at an all time high.

I enjoy all of the Craig films, but where is the other content to engage and bring in new and young viewers? Growing up in the 90s/00s, the Bond video games is what got a lot of us in the 30-40 year age range into Bond. Prior to that toys, cars, board games, trading cards, etc. was a draw. Now it seems that we have only Craig and the brand is more tailored to upscale lifestyle, and clothing if anything.

Then again, while Disney or similar would reshape the marketing and branding of Bond, a far greater worry of the deteriment of the films would come into play which could jeopardize losing the existing fan base.

One place they can go is John Logan’s two-arc film that focussed on Central Africa as a location and the gold-pan mining. A new Mr.Big or Goldfinger, perhaps?

They can take the heat for a lot. The film could have come out quite a bit before the pandemic. First and foremost, they waited eons (no pun intended) for Craig to make up his damn mind and put all their faith into him in regards to making creative decisions and earning a producer credit.

Had they recast right after SPECTRE, we'd probably have another film by now and potentially another one in the works. This tells us something about the state of affairs at EON and that it's far from the business that Cubby had run.

I think ever since Craig made that infamous suicidal comment, he has become more composed with the media. Let's say he has matured with age. If Craig were to be 30 now with his current maturity, he won't keep EON waiting. A great Bond he is, but he found his more jovial side just when he was about to close-off his era. It seems Moore and Brosnan were the Bonds who really cared about the franchise from Day 1....with Moore even visiting Brosnan when he was filming GE. And Moore and Brosnan were willing to play Bond forever and were still concerned about the franchise even when they left.

Moore was THE Bond ambassador. He clearly enjoyed and cherished the role like nobody before or after him - maybe followed by Brosnan indeed.

The great Sir Sean often made really rude comments about the films - it was only in much later years that he started to talk more friendly about the character and the films.

I truly believe Craig likes the character and believes in the films they made - he put in A LOT into these films. But it clearly was and is the 007-scale media coverage he hated and some of the media definitely wanted to make him look this way. Look at that silly slash-my-wrists comment - everybody knows this was taken out of context and how often he said that he respects and enjoys the character and how much Barbara and Michael let him explore it and give it a new spin of his own. And it paid off, greatly. Yet he never did and probably never will be so easy and beloved with it like the late Sir Roger Moore was.

To the future of Bond: Look what Netflix is planning there with Ryan Gossling and Chris Evans. If you think a company like Apple with so much cash at their hand would buy the Bond rights ... I truly think this is more likely to be a path for future Bond movies, too. Released much closer after another again with a plan for a series right from the start.

I liked the Craig era second-best after the Connery era. I remain excited about NTTD. But I think Bond will never reach me as much as those 2 Bond eras did - One a young boy of 11 and the Connery films in their TV premieres ... and then grown up the Craig era. I may even drop off the Bond train if they would recycle the Fleming books in a streaming film series ... because I don‘t need that. But ... never say never. First we gotta see NTTD and then the Craig era is finally over and we shall see who and what come next.

    James Bond will return.

I would like to see the films continue as they are. I see no need or desire to try and "MCU" the whole thing and have spin-offs, tv shows, and a continuous narrative. Bond has survived as it has been for nearly 60 years and it will continue in that vein. It needs to remain true event cinema.

As for Bond himself, I would like to see a return to a more cultured 007, one who takes pleasure in the finer things in life - drinks, foods etc and a return to a more darkly comedic tone a la Connery - cruel but darkly humorous.

Craig Bond engages in drinks, food, fashion etc but its just there as window dressing, he doesn't comment on it or anything where as I do like it when Connery talks about the different cherry vintages in both DAF and Goldfinger. Likewise a return to the Bond "know it all isms" as seen in the earlier films.

I'd also like Bond Number 7 to just be Bond, we have had all the "Bond Begins" elements in the Craig era, leave them there. They worked great there and there's no need to rehash them with a new Bond. I do like the current MI6 crew, and as tradition would like to see them continue.

I agree. I'm a big fan of Gareth Mallory. Current Q and Moneypenny are fine too.

    Spot on!

These are the elements I want to see return too. I'm totally done with personal angst and Team Bond in action. What I would give now for the next Bond film to have all the traditional elements back from the 60's to 80's era (without the silliness).

Bond going to M's office, flirt with Moneypenny, get briefed on a mission, pop down to see Q, and then off on an assignment. Nothing more. No Scooby gang in the field this time.

And Bond isn't going rogue anymore. He's just doing his job, after a villain with no personal connections, no revenge motive, no long lost brother. And no DB5 anymore (as much as I love that car).

We need a Bond film like this again. Stick in a few 100% adapted unused Fleming scenes too for good measure, woven expertly into the script Maibaum style. Job done!

Definitely! In Bond 26 our hero tries to shoot M, then he fights an octopus and then there’s a chase with old American steam trains, then he’s trapped in a garden of death! He escapes by helium balloon but loses his memory

Where does Bond go after Craig? Very easy. Bring back the escapism....even if it's looking like it could feature in NTTD. Just bring back the escapism to the fullest without making it silly. We have older Bond films that have gotten that balance right. I love Craig's Bond, but it's time to return to colourful and standalone adventures.

There is of course no way of realising that - and I sincerely hope the general situation of the world is very different by the time Bond 26 is released - but man could I use some escapism right about now.

I have no idea when I'll be comfortable going on a long distance flight again - and when destinations worth flying to are safe enough to do so - and then the whole "flight shame" thing will come back into play. So there's a chance Bond films will regain their appeal as "travelogues" to places the average person cannot visit. Actual destinations instead of homogenous luxury hotels.

PS: On a recent James Bond & Friends, they discussed when/whether media will start depicting our status quo instead of the way things used to be. Just imagine a socially distanced Bond...

A man can dream. Seems so simple, getting back to this formula, but I fear it won't be the case. I worry we'll get more personal, brooding, rogue-like storylines with narrative threads connecting the films again, which is the last thing I want after this era. Just give me some standalone missions, please.
