Where does Bond go after Craig?

I am not interested in a jokey Bond. I much prefer the droll, witty style of Connery's Bond. Craig was too little; Moore and Brosnan too much. Too much humor reduces the tension and seriousness of a scene.

I wonder if we'll get an official announcement in 2025 about the status/development of the film?

I'm half expecting to read a headline that says EON are being taken to court for some breach of contract and the hole were in will only get deeper if that happens.

Where do these fantasies keep coming from?

Does Amazon need Bond 26? They own 25 films. It's not as if they'd go broke if another Bond film was never made.

I think there was always a worry on here, that the combo of Amazon & EON wasn't going to be that smooth. But still, we hope they work out their differences and give us Bond 26 & Beyond.

They probably don't have much choice but to work something out. And to be fair that seems to be what they're doing.

Exactly. Behind closed doors. They're doing that at the moment.

Wikipedia and an article on IMDB states that Matthew Warchus has been hired as director of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? Am I late to this, or has anyone heard of this? If you look at his filmography it has him directing the film.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Warchus

He also directed the recent Matilda the musical starring Emma Thompson.

Okay then, must have missed that. Thanks.

OMG, what will everyone do if EON actually tries something actually new with Bond leaving the Craig, Connery, Moore, Lazenby, Brosnan and Dalton fans out in the cold?

In your opinion, what would leave those fans in the cold?

Whilst each actor has brought something different to the role, they have all played their interpretation of James Bond. Whether fans and audiences alike have enjoyed their turn is an ever going debate.
If EON stray to far from the character, then what’s the point in naming the character James Bond.
He has to retain some of the characteristics that Fleming gave Bond.
As with @CrabKey what do you propose as being new, or leaving fans out in the cold?

I don't know, but for some reason, I don't see Safin as the typical megalomaniac Bond villain I was hoping for. Maybe because he was all about his obsession for Madeleine, instead of focusing fully on world domination.

Just occurred to me. When Craig was cast, all his predecessors were alive and well. For a time this world had all six Bond actors coexisting. With the next guy cast, Connery and Moore are already gone, and who knows if anyone else will pass.

I once saw Craig and Moore together on stage, that was nice.

Obsession for a Madeleine is Vertigo. Compared with Jimmy Stewart, Safin's Madeleine was a schoolboy crush. The way the role is played, I don't feel the passion or the obsession with her or his plot. A lackluster Blofeld and underwhelming Safin made for a disappointing combo.

We won't know until it happens, which I hope it doesn't.

Right. As you brought up the what if idea, a couple of us are wondering if you had anything specific in mind. What would be a deal breaker for you?

Yeah. I'll take this as well. Also, it's such a let down that a Bond film where Bond eventually dies, there's no suspense at all. Because the villains are really disappointing.

I think a fresh set of writers is required, and something of an overhaul of the behind the scenes crew.
Purvis & Wade have been writing for 25 years now, I think new blood is needed.
A real shake up of the character is likely based on Barbara Broccoli's comments. But how far are EON prepared to go. A black Bond, a gay or bisexual Bond?
A return to the ott films of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s?
A thriller with less action and an engaging story and characters, or full on action with huge spectacle?
    It’s a tough one.

I think Purvis and Wade will stay. They always typically write the first draft or two before other writers are brought in to heavily rewrite.

Bond is at his best when it's a high-stakes espionage, thrilling spy spectacle of a film. They can push boundries, but we have to show people this is Bond. The cinematic icon.

Even if P&W return (which isn’t unlikely) it’ll be a new set of writers I think. As others have said they tend to do the ground work with the script, and after that other writers come on to change it as needed.

As for how they’ll ’reinvent’ Bond, I think it’ll be in ways we won’t even think of. I don’t think we’ll see a bisexual Bond (as in Bond the character is bisexual) or a strict return to the tone of previous films. A black Bond is possible, but that’s not in itself a major shake up. When they say reinvent the character I think it’s more in how this version of Bond stands out from his predecessors (while fundamentally being James Bond, if that makes sense). It’s more in stuff like the harder, more brutish edge of Craig’s Bond, the more broody Fleming-esque portrayal of Dalton, Moore’s more gentlemanly (albeit in a pastiche type way) version of the character etc. Then there’s of course what the film itself is going to do itself. For them it’s about creating a Bond movie - set in contemporary times as has always been the case - and making all these tropes and stories fresh.

By tradition Bond will hint at the past situations in a promo/revealing. "You wanted something else? I'm just getting started."

A gay actor is different from Bond being gay

I don’t mind a gay actor playing Bond.
