Welcome! Such a unique introduction to Bond!

It's amazing that it started with a passing introduction to DAD, to Bond becoming your favourite franchise!

I associated Bond with my dad as well, as it was a VHS of Goldeneye we rented from Blockbuster (and subsequently never returned; if that's why they're bankrupt now, our apologies!) that introduced me to the series. I was a fan right from that moment.

Thank you! Crazy right? Hard to believe my introduction to what would become my favorite series would be a glimpse of the film that's considered the worst by a large group!

That's a great story with your dad. I would wager that quite a few fans came to love the franchise because of one or both of their parents.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to decide on a username. The "Stuff my orders, I only kill professionals" line may be my favorite in the series, so I decided on that. But then I spent a good thirty minutes deciding if I wanted to add the "S" or not even though Dalton says "kill"! I'm still debating myself over that one.

That's a great line! You made good use of it in your username, I'd say. My favourite line in the franchise is:

"... the smoke [came] out between his teeth in a luxurious hiss. That was his 'Enemy Appreciation'. Now, who was this enemy?"

From Dr. No, the novel. There are a lot that spring to mind, actually, but that one always comes in first. A bit of a mouthful for a username, unfortunately!

That's a great line. It would be a mouthful! I recently ordered all 14 books, so I'm looking forward to starting those soon.

Welcome @KillsProfessionals , what kind of professionals do you mostly kill?

Oh, just hitmen, members of terrorist organizations, druglords, even a former friend.

Again hoping not to be a spoilsport (though someone might contest that assertion)...

...but I checked this thread for the first couple of years (of five) since I myself joined (i.e. after early 2017), and I found it sort of depressing that quite a lot of new members never really reappeared in the discussions. There are some that were welcomed abundantly, yet ever since 2017 never decided to post in more than two-digit numbers, some even not at all after their initial introduction. Of course it's everyone's own decision, and I've been reducing my own contributions a lot by sheer numbers (mainly because I got tired of the James Bond Quotes contest which ended up in the same places all the time, limiting my fun), but why does anyone who chooses to join here stop posting after a single- or two-digit number of posts? And what could we do about it?

It's all about community, interest and activity. I've joined forums throughout the years where I gave up after a few posts; could be countless reasons why some choose to introduce themselves and drop off quickly, be it boredom or lack of interest, perceived hostility from other members, etc.

That cycle played out recently for the release of NTTD. I enjoyed several posters in particular, some longtime members that returned along with new ones.

I expect at least some got tired of the wave of complaints on NTTD and the Craig films and moved on. Maybe they'll return at some point.

A cycle, indeed. I saw one or two longtime members I so desperately missed return during that time, only to disappear just as quickly. Then, of course, there are the countless new members who joined to share in the excitement (and likely hundreds who were just trying to nab the leaked Zimmer score with no further involvement). I'm glad some managed to stick it all out and are still posting today.

And yes, a mixture of those who loved it and didn't want to read the negativity (and vice versa) makes sense for their departure.

I find this place to be quite an unwelcoming one, personally. It’s why my posting and participation has been extremely limited of late (something only I would really notice, of course).

I thought maybe it was a me problem (and to an extent I think it is), so I’ve been taking this break, but it’s interesting you’re noticing this with new members as well.

@NickTwentyTwo Any suggestions to make the place a bit more welcoming? It's sad to hear that sentiment, but I do think that it needs be addressed. Obviously we are limited in how much influence we have over the membership. People like or dislike what they will, all we can do is try to foster civility. Of course even the meaning of that becomes subjective in today's world.

I'm from the Philippines, those girls of my age don't really know James Bond, as they are all about Mobile Legends, TikTok and Kpop.
Regarding my favorite bond, maybe Daniel Craig, I like them all.
My favorite bond film is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
Thank you for welcoming me @Agent_99 , I hope everyone will accept me here.
    I'm having an anxiety. 😁

The sad thing is James Bond isn't popular in the Philippines unlike Star Wars or Marvel.
Do you have any female fans here aside from me?

Not many, but there are a few. @Agent_99 who answered you above is one of them.

Hi, I'm another female Bond fan hence my username is one of my favourite Bond women. My first Bond film was Die Another Day but I grew up with Daniel Craig and No Time to Die really reignited my love of the series and I wanted to discuss it with likeminded people.

Indeed! Agent 99 is a female spy in the TV show Get Smart, but people who don't get the reference often don't realise I'm a woman :)
