Deleted Scenes "OHMSS": Bray's Assistant Is Spying / Rooftop & Underground Chase

I accidentally came across this video on YouTube, and I was actually rather....shocked. For me as a Bond fan...or...complete utter Bond geek.....this is a very precious discovery. I really don't know if a topic has been created before about the missing / deleted scenes from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", but anyway, first have a look at this video reconstruction:



My opinion: I think it's entirely genuine, comparing the actual pictures, the wardrobes of the actors, with the final footage on film. Having said that, I think these missing/deleted scenes would really add to the suspense of the film. I always thought that the shot from Bray's office to the train in Mürren, Switzerland, always looked a bit rushed and a fairly late editing decision.

What I also didn't know, was the very fact that the name of Sir Hillary Bray's assistant was Phidian. Perhaps I read over it when I read the novel. But what's also interesting, is the fact that Phidian was actually a spy employed by Blofeld. It could have explained Blofeld's claim to the title of Count Balthazar de Bluechamp a bit better if you ask me.

The most exciting element of this discovery, I actually find the action. The rooftop/foot chase, well, we know Daniel Craig's films have quite a bit of rooftop chases in it no? "Quantum Of Solace", "Casino Royale" even "Skyfall". On top of that, the chase continues in the London Underground, which we actually see happen in "Skyfall". And on top of thát, the gruesome death of innocent people gets mentioned in the newspaper that MI6-agent Campbell is reading.

Again, analizing the above video in great detail, I can only conclude this is real, and could have been an exciting 7 mins more extra footage. My question to other Bond fans: Are there actually more people who have watched/witnessed the filming of this entire sequence?

    Thanks for posting this @Gustuv. Though the stills used here appear to be taken from the excellent The Making of On Her Majesty's Secret By Charles Helfenstein so it's not fake at all. I was hoping for actual unused footage though, much like that Goldfinger deleted scene that surfaced on Youtube then was deleted by MGM a number of years ago. For the record, I don't think the Royal Mail fight was actually shot, only the footchase scene. It would be something else if Eon actually released the real footage, but as they're still borrowing heavily from it (SF, CR, QoS) I think it'll remain under lock and key. But we have to thank Charles Helfenstein for showing these photos and missing storyboards in his wonderful book. He also explains how the original Connery OHMSS screenplay differed from Lazenby's version. Worth a read.

    Wow, I would have really liked to have seen that lost footage. The clips look like it would have been really great and something we wouldn't have to wait for the Craig movies to see.

    Anyone who doesn't own Charles Helfenstein's book should buy it immediately. I can't recommend it highly enough. It goes into some detail about this sequence.

    It's a shame EON doesn't create a Lost/Secret footage compilation. I'd love to see everything from all the Bond films left on the cutting room floor. there's a scene in the TMWTGG trailer with Bond and Scaramanga exchanging dialogue on the beach during the duel.

    Yes that is true, I remember watching this video a year or so ago. I'm glad some deleted scenes resurfaced on the Ultimate Edition DVD's.

    Seriously, if you don't have 'The making of OHMSS' and you like the film you should fork out for the book. It's one of the best Bond related books available. It doesn't just parrot back the official line, it's a substantial and detailed bit of work.
