I too will make that admission. It was kind of cool how they used the gunbarrel motif to form certain names of the actors and actresses.
I certainly don't remember any negative comments towards Kleinman pre SF. Following the staggeringly good CR and the MK Dons debacle for QOS I recall most people being desperate for Kleinman to return for SF.
That's why he is Dan The Man. Well, at least one of them.
;)
I remember the complaints being that it didn't measure to Binder's work, but over the years he's definitely become more accepted to the point of being as cherished as Binder, and it's deserved.
My main complaint pre-CR was mostly on TND/TWINE/DAD for the way he used his women by having them do that weird interpretive dance thing. It felt less sexy and more tacky, like something you see a girl doing at a strip club. You can even see it in his music video for Gladys Knight's "Licence to Kill" where the women do that when ascending from the gun barrels.
Luckily he got away from that kind of thing.
Yes
I thought they were pretty good, too.
I may be crazy, but I loved "Another Way to Die". I consider TWINE's, DAD's, and SP's title songs to be un-listenable. Another Way to Die at least had a good beat.
However, DAD wins points for just having the balls to do something different. It's not entirely successful, but I salute Madonna for trying to break the mold in the same fashion as Duran Duran and Paul McCartney did.
"Writing's on the Wall" actually grew on me quickly, and I love it. Can't wait to hear it with the Opening titles!
However it has grown on me to the extent where it's climbing my list of Bond songs quite rapidly.
The tragedy is it starts so well but then builds to nothing. The 'risk it all/writing's on the wall' couplet is really flat and lifeless. If something better had been done with this it could have been a classic.
Also for me it was a mistake to end it so quietly. For Bond you need a bit of bombast and I think we should have had one last big refrain of the string section.
I think if Sam had had John Barry to assist with a bit of polish this could have easily been top five.
Currently I have it above TMWTGG, MR, FYEO, DAD, AWTD and it is still climbing. I think it may get past All Time High, TLD and TND yet.
Listen again it clear is in two halves much like Spectre is kinda a two half film.
Quite. The song mirrors the film in the sense the third part doesn't quite manage to get over the line to make it a classic.
furthermore, if the cast is done being listed at the "risk it all" part, that is, at the end of the chorus (if you can call it that) that means they must have chopped the latter stanza off the song (from "i'm prepared for this" on).
I hope it's not horribly butchered like some of the others, the song is already kind of bad for starters.
Yeah, they chopped that part off, and they chopped off the second 'how do I live....' at the end.
