Glad to see some love for the score of The Spy Who Loved Me. That being said, the score for Octopussy was better, IMO.
  • I recently read a comment on IMDB that the producers wanted to replace the score (the worst in my opinion) of Goldeneye with something far better. However they only had 12 days to do it. As a result they couldn't replace the whole score and only rescored the tank chase. Anyone know if there is any truth in this.

Interesting, i hadn't heard that story, but it could be true, as the score for GE is so underwhelming.
The trouble with EON and the film studio, is they don't allow any extra time in the production of the Bond films, to correct any issues that they may dislike about the film.
This was noted in particular, when MGW stated that they were not happy about some issues of QOS, but there wasn't anytime left to re-edit the film.

Going back to GE, however mediocre the score for that film was, it is still vastly better than the absolute shite score of NSNA.

My understanding is that the 12 days was the time given to rescore the tank sequence only, and that this was the only sequence they wanted to rescore. I could be wrong, but I'm sure I read that somewhere.

I can understand why they chose to focus on that particular track. The original is awful. A lot worse than any of the tracks used in the film IMO.

    OHMSS has the best score.

    SPECTRE has the worst.

Yep. GE's score at least has a personality to it and some memorable sounds. SPECTRE's score is a non entity.

If we're counting unofficial movies, then NSNA. Otherwise DN (it's not bad, but it pales in comparison to every other soundtrack).

Worst is definitely Never Say Never Again. Not much of a contest there, really.

Best? Probably, for my money, The Living Daylights. I also rather liked the scores for Licence to Kill and GoldenEye, as unpopular as they seem to be.

Regarding LTK, score is ok, but it was really overbearing at times, particularly in the tanker chase towards the end of the film.

I agree. Maybe Newman is rather reticent at using the Bond theme but Kamen flogs it to death in the most repetitive score of the series.

I like those too. I remember there were quite a few Serra fans in the days of Keeping the British End Up. I feel as if I'm the only one right now . :(

GE had a great soundtrack. That movie is the definitive Bond film for me as it was my first and at that time i had zero idea how a Bond Movie is supposed to be or sound. After watching all the others i can understand that some old school fans might object to Serras musical taste, and i have to admit that there are one or two tracks on GE that did not age very well, especially the music from the car chase with Xenia.

BUT that soundtrack is pure 90's to me, it perfectly fits the movie, and is quite dark. I for one love it when people try something new. it is my favorite together with Skyfall because Serra and Newman both brought a fresh perspective to their respective movies. David Arnold for me is quite boring, and plays it a bit too save. only exception is CR that one was good.

Barry is the master of course, the original. There is nothing bad to say about him. I would say my favorite of his is OHMSS.
But his time is over and i rather have a new guy with his own style trying new things than have a lukewarm Barry copy, it will never be the same anyway

Hmm I feel like I'm the only one who prefers Spectres score to Skyfalls. I actually enjoyed it, especially when we first see Bond arrive in Rome and the subsequent funeral scene.
