Haven't read the book, but I have heard a lot
about the torture part.
Looked it up and I see a topless girl infront of Bond with colonel sun in the background?

I have heard Bonds torture involves his ear but that it's also sexual??

What actually happens

Some people will not have read this, change your title to a non-spoiler title.

I really think that you should read the novel to find out about that. It's the best of the Bond continuations and is an excellent read. Highly recommended!

Agree it's the best continuing novel and that the name of the thread should be changed.

I can PM the details of the torture if anyone so wishes. This is a subject of great interest to me.

@Dragonpol: Just looked at your blog. Love it!

Yes, PM me some details on the torture scene. I have a sense of what it is already, but just want a confirmation.

I'm writing a long essay on the increased level of violence in Colonel Sun called 'The Strange Death of Colonel Sun (and the Increased Level of Violence in Kingsley Amis' 1968 James Bond Continuation Novel)' that should answer a few questions on the torture scene and other connected matters!

So Draggers how did you rate the SP torture scene?

From a literary fan's point of view it was the highlight of the film by a distance (I can take or leave the Hildebrand reference). I was overjoyed when I realised that Blofeld planned to do the Colonel Sun torture.

Obviously they had to tone it down which is fair enough but I would have preferred more talking from Blofeld about the torture because Sun does go on quite a bit about it!

But nonetheless I'm pretty made up they put it in at all. After this do you think they can pull of the Brokenclaw torture in a 12A cert!?? :)

Also Draggers (and indeed any other Gardner aficionados out there for we are few) did you get shades of the death of Tamil Rahani from NLF in the bit where Blofeld gets blown up? I think it was the clinical white cell.

Sadly I've not seen Spectre yet, @TheWizardOfIce but I'm going next week to see it.

I did think it was a bit of a shock ( may be too strong a word) after the lighter
Tone to the film , everyone having a good time, plenty of laughs etc. To suddenly
be faced with the horror of the torture scene.
So I think it works in the shock factor, as it stands out from the easy going tone
Of what proceeded it. Also it's always nice to see some of the literary Bond, getting
    put on screen.

He basically probes Bond's nostrils and ear canal with long needles prodding away at ultra sensitive nerve endings down there.
It's a bit more disturbing than we got in SP but obviously they had to tone it down a bit to keep the 12A cert.

Thanks!! So what's with the topless girl then? And why do people say it gets sexual? I believe the topless pic of bond getting tortured was something by playboy so not sure

The eponymous villain Colonel Sun Liang-tan gets one of the Albanian girls at his Greek hideout to watch him torturing James Bond who is strapped to a chair. He then gets this girl to strip in front of Bond and come in close to kiss and caress him so as to allow Bond one last taste of his past life with women which he will never get to experience again as the torture continues to its sickening-sounding outcome. That is the only sexual element to the torture and it never actually occurs. Instead, the girl slips Bond a knife under the cover of seducing him and for the rest you will have to read the novel...

I'm also wondering (without revealing any spoilers of course) if there is any connection between the torture scenes in Colonel Sun and Spectre?

I'm not going to comment Draggers.

As for the topless girl. She was just a prostitute Sun had brought in to service his guests. Seem to remember something about Sun getting her to try and arouse Bond or something just before he kills him. But it's clearly Sun who is getting off on it more than anybody.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

OK. I'm looking forward to seeing Spectre next week. :)
