I really don't get how TWINE is his worst performance. If anything I think it's his best. But we all have different opinions. No one is right no one is wrong.

Well it's all subjective I suppose - but I find he just goes into autopilot after TND.
In TWINE and DAD he's playing some sort of generic undercover hero, a sort of Remington/Bond/The Saint pastiche... he tries far too hard to come across as 'suave' that it just ends up being 'faux-cool'.... if you know what I mean.

    Put it this way:

Connery (and Dalton & Craig to a great extent) behaved like his character (James Bond) on camera - Brosnan looks like he is trying (very hard) to act like an idea of the character he is portraying (yes, still James Bond...)

If anything I think that undercover hero is what best suits his Bond. In GE & TND if feel he was trying to find his niche as Bond and when he did TWINE he finally got it right

Did you not find anything even slighly discomfiting about his attempts at emotional hurt? At 'feelings' for Elektra? When he touches the computer screen at Mi6 and makes some kind of squinty puppy love face? At realizing he had been betrayed (when in the company of Renard first and then in his infamous teenage breakdown at Baku)?

I can't even look at these scenes without cringing. That is not James Bond. Not even close imho.

I hate that scene on the beach in DAD where he's sucking on that fat cigar and leering are Berry. He looks like a lecherous ad exec on the lookout for hookers.

Watch 'Live Wire' (1992) or 'Death Train' (1993) - if you can stomach either.. Then watch any of the Bonds from 1995 - 2012.

In all instances the leading man is Brosnan, and each of these performances just seem to be exactly the same character. Seriously.
I don't see how this can even be contested - the man just has no real substance to his acting. He's a nice enough fellow and I'm sure lots of people love his generic, benign pastiche of James Bond. But he ain't 007.

He's the Austin Powers of the Bond series. Except not as funny or convincing in the role.

Btw, surely you mean 95-02? Brosnan carrying on until 2012 is one of my recurring nightmares.

I actually felt the emotion he was trying to play TBH. It wasn't Cringe worthy at all IMO. I thought it was just right. Maybe he could have shown a little more emotion when he found out Elektra betrayed him especially during the scene where he confronts Elektra. But in the end it didn't bother me.

Btw TWINE is my favorite Bond movie. So I'm probably a little bias when it comes to it. I have to defend my favorite you know

That's not quite what I was getting at. I found the emotion on display to be somewhat childlike and unbefitting a seasoned veteran spy to begin with. Somewhat teenage angst like. I would have held it together better than he appeared to do in that scene, and that's just not on for me.

I guess we have to agree to disagree here, but those elements of his performance in TWINE, along with his delivery of all the 'one - liner's' was truly awful to me. I rank this film bottom of the Bond canon more on account of Brosnan than anyone else. He was much better in the other 3, but of them all I like GE best (more for the film than anything else) but I'm willing to concede that Brosnan himself may have been best in TND.

Maybe Elektra really did have strong power over men

    That explains a lot.

TWINE is firmly ensconced at the bottom of my rankings. Even DAD cannot shift it.

    :))

Brosnan just goes into all-out sleazy mode in that scene.

The dialogue they have is like something out of a porno before the sex starts.

Worst of all is Halle though with the way she runs her hands through her hair in the water, pretends to dry herself with the towel and constantly tips her head when she's talking.

Michelle Yeoh was ok I think. She at least could do a bit of martial arts.

I'd say Goodnight and Jinx are at the bottom.

Indeed. Not saying she was among the best, but at least she had a bit more going for her than bloody Jinx.

I didn't mind Michelle Yeoh. Dare I say she was one of Brosnan's better Bond girls.

Yeoh was serviceable, and worked well with Brosnan I think. However, Izabella Scorupco for me.

Izabella was Brosnan's best Bond girl hands down. Have always liked her.

@bondjames, that would be my main point. She works very well with Brosnan. I don't know if I'd call it chemistry but they convince together on screen. It's probably one of the reasons I've always considered TND as Brosnan's 'best'.

Have to say I've never ever understood why people get so excited by Natalia. Dull dull dull IMO.

Yes, there is a natural rapport there and it shows.....the bike scenes and Thailand in particular. It's just a bit asexual in a way. I would have preferred a little more sexual tension personally

I can only speak for myself, but she surely was able to 'arm' my weapon. Boy with toy.

Any Bond actress who says something like "I'd happily play a Bond girl even if I just run around in a bikini" (a quote from Scorropco) gets my approval. None of this "I'm Bond's equal" BS.
