I know that a lot of people would like to see a return to the "Drew Struzman (?) style" posters of the 70's and 80's but I think that time has passed. However, a new poster similar in design to that DN poster could be very cool and different enough from what the general public is used to seeing that it could be a real conversation starter in the multi-plexes. But the film would have to be in a similar style, or perhaps the "timeless class" style of a Martin Campbell Bond film, to suit it (or vice versa).
One of my favourite Bond articles was in Premiere magazine when LTK came out. They talked about changing the title from Licence Revoked to LTK but also showcased 5 concept posters. Each was a huge departure from the style of posters used up until that time; they were mostly fantastic and would have moved Bond back to being a trend-maker instead of a trend-follower. Sadly, they went with a conventional poster instead. If there was a time to try something new I think now would be a good one.
This is an awesome thread, and I can't wait to contribute more with the rest of you movie lovers. ;-)

One of my all-time favourite movies, and one of my all-time favourite posters!
(I just bought this poster and is now up on my wall with other movie 'greats', such as: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Casino Royale and the final Harry Potter film)

Some great creativity there.
I'll keep it simple and share some favorites:
Dr. Strangelove
Raiders of the Lost Ark
But, sometimes, simplicity, though seen as generic, is all I need. Take my favorite film, for example:
