Adele is a decent singer but I think she's overrated and overplayed, and I think it'd be a safe, boring choice.

And I just prefer the rock Bond themes like LALD and YKMN. I was hoping for something like that. I don't want another GF (and Adele sings like Bassey), I want another LALD!!!!
Granted, going for Paul was safe too. After the Beatles high of the 60s and their continuing legacy Paul was guaranteed gold.

I suppose, but I think Paul is better than Adele. Like I said, I think she's a bit overrated.

If she is doing it, I'll wait and hear the song before fully judging but I'm not really an Adele fan at all so I'm skeptical.

How is Adele overrated? Because she makes good music? Can sing? Is talented and is recognised for it? Or are you simply sick of hearing her music? If that's the case no one's holding a gun to your head, forcing you to listen to her.

I'm not a die hard Adele fan, I can take it or leave it but I appreciate her talent because she does make good music and find her to be a good candidate for a Bond theme.

@doubleoego See, that's the thing, I don't think she does make good music.

She can sing, but half of her songs are boring and could be translated as "I hate my ex", so yes I do think she is overrated and would prefer another choice for the Bond theme.

And I'm very sick of hearing her music. Almost every time I turn on the radio I hear an Adele song.

Since her and Muse are the front runners, I hope Muse get chosen.

How is Muse a front runner? Because they are performing on 6th October while Craig is hosting? Weak argument if so.

Adele has had this in the bag for well over a year by the sound of it. She's a great singer, really who wouldn't want her to sing a theme for Bond? Chances are it will be a very good song too. We haven't had one of those in years as far as ballads go.

Well, yeah. I know it will probably be Adele but you never know.

I wouldn't and reading this thread, it looks like some people agree with me. I'm not denying she has talent but I think she's overrated.

Why do you say chances are it'll be very good? It could be good, especially if she doesn't write it, but we know basically nothing about it yet.

YKMN was a very good song. But then that comes down to taste I suppose. Like I said in a post on the last page, I prefer the rock Bond songs to the ballads.

Adele writes good music. Just good songs full stop. If she has co-writen it with Newman (an Oscar nominated composer) it should be one of the best themes in a very long time. I'm think Surrender may be a good reference point for the type of song to expect.
YKMN was a very good song.

Yes, as a rock Bond song it was very good and the best Bond theme since GoldenEye at least.
  • You know, the fact that all sorts of sites, magazines, and papers are running with the news and declaring it as confirmed and EON hasn't said a thing makes me lean towards thinking it's actually true. If I remember correctly when that fake review hit IMDb and all sorts of media outlets were declaring it as real, EON released a statement marking the review as false. They've really just kept their mouths shut with the Adele news which makes me believe there's some weight to it.

This all comes down to taste. I don't think they are good songs. Like I said, half of them are basically "I hate my ex"

You like Adeles music, I don't, lets just leave it at that.

Newman should do a good score though and I hope he writes the song, or at least most of it. YKMN topped GE for me, I thought it was the best theme since LALD.

I just hope she has worked closely with Newman.
  • God. Now it even has been popped up on Wikipedia as her performing the song too. If it turns out that it isn't her (not bloody likely) then there will be quite a few red flushed faces across the interwebs.

Unlike Adele, I actually like Newmans music and think the score could be one of SF's strongest points, so I agree.

I am not a huge fan of Adele but I think she could be okay as long as it's a good song and the theme is worked into the movie.

Like I said, half of them are basically "I hate my ex"

Is it the medley or lyrics of the songs that bother you? If it's the lyrics you shouldn't have a problem as this is a Bond song, so Newman, if he's involved, will insist on something different.

The lyrics bother me, so you're right, with Newman involved and it being a Bond song, it should be different to her normal stuff and could turn out really good.

Listen to the instrumentals of some of Adele's tracks. Hopefully you'll like them a bit more. Any one could be tailored to fit Bond in some shape or form, I feel.

Until we get an official confirmation we know nothing. I remember QoS, the rumours were that Winehouse was doing it, then Duffy was a sure thing. Even Adele was rumoured to have been chosen for it at one point. I like Adele, a lot to be honest, since her first album. She has talent, a good voice, knows how to interpret a song not just sing it, much more than the "disposable music stars" that seem to run the charts these days. Of course I would also like Muse to do it but I was more than underwhelmed by their latest songs. Emeli Sande would also be a wonderful choice! But if in the end we get Adele I will be a happy woman (as long as it's a good song). I think it is about time that a female British singer interprets the Bond theme again, it's been ages since the last one!

I understand hwere you rcoming from Sandy. In the end, it is just a rumor. But it feels a bit different this time becuase Adele has actualy said she is doing a theme. So it has come straight from the horses mouth. So it is more likley that the rumor is true than past films, like Quantum of Solace. I hope it is here. ....

Yes, if I had to bet it would be on her but we'll only know for sure, well... when the official confirmation comes out which I hope will not take long.

In the past I think EON have switched horses relatively late. But I don't think Mendes would tolerate that on Skyfall. If it is Adele and she was asked a year ago, that's because Mendes wanted to get it right. He wants the whole package to be spot on, with a title song that is integrated with the Score.

Merreeahhhh..... I found TWINE better than Goldeneye's. It made sense, where GE 's theme didn't know what the hell Goldeneye was.

Just repeating what's been said. No news until we here something from the production or Adele herself.
  • QBranchQBranch Always have an escape plan. Mine is watching James Bond films.

The source is Showbiz411, which stated they 'think they can confirm'- which means they can't. As mentioned above, don't pay any attention to these rumours unless it's straight from EON, or Adele herself.

I actually like all the themesongs up till Tomorrow Never Dies. After GoldenEye only the themesong for Casino Royale is somewhat classic.

So the producers not only lost the classic posterart (from GoldenEye onwards) but also a good choice for a classic themesong. For instance they should've chosen K.D. Lang with Surrender for Tomorrow Never Dies and not that childish song sung by Sheryll Crow. But hey, all for the money I guess. On the other hand each song represent their musical era.

Another Way To Die has a great (The Man With The Golden Gun-) sound, but something is off, I don't know what exactly. Maybe it's too much of an hommage to some Bondthemes.

The World Is Not Enough is plain boring and a Bondtheme by the numbers. Die Another Day is just ugly.

I for one am delighted that Adele could be doing it. Ten years ago, Muse could have done a great Bond song, but everything they've produced recently has been horrible, especially that woeful Olympic song. So I'm glad they don't seem to be getting much support.

Adele nay have some personal topics as songs, but her voice is astounding and a throwback to Bassey. With the right guidance she could produce the best song in the series history. Anything will be better than that last turd of a song we had for QOS.
  • I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but on August 29th Paul Epworth (Adele's producer) tweeted this:
    Paul Epworth ‏@paulepworth
Off to record a little bit of history.

    Interesting indeed....

OK it's not official but the evidence has been pointing towards her being the candidate for some time now, they are saying Skyfall is going to be classic Bond with Goldfinger mentioned as an influence, lets face it they are going to go with a female for this no doubt. They want that Bassey type classic feel, I think Adele has had the job for a long time but EON wanted to keep it under wraps but like the last worse kept secret the title of Bond 23 this has been out there for months since Wossy was teasing her about it in that interview months ago.

EON lost out on getting Winehouse, do you really think they'd let the attempt to get one of the biggest pop stars on the planet singing the title tune? It won't be a rock song because we've had that, they'll be looking to recreate that classic Barry/Bassey feel for this song mark my words this tune will be one of the safest Bond themes in a long time.

They will not be wanting the kind of reception the last 2 themes ( which I both like), barely touching the charts, this is the 50th anniversary they'll be nothing to chance here. Adele has been a sure thing since the beginning of the year, they want a chart smash and this all over the radio and TV and her name will guarantee that. Cornell was way past his prime and White was very well known but not a household name, Adele is pretty much at her Zenith, this will be the biggest hit theme in decades.

    Seriously was someone suggesting Genesis?

I was suggesting Yes and Rush ....

I just prefer the rock theme I loved You Know my name Live and let die A view to a Kill The Living Daylights and Another Way to Die. I also feel the rock theme is more daniel Craig's style I have tried to get into the jazzy bond themes I really have but usually they do nothing for me..

Am I the only one who thinks LALD is painfully overrated? I thinks it's an average song at best and as a Bond song it's meh.

YKMN is a great song and an even better Bond theme song. I love it and feel that it really defines the Craig era with conviction in a signature way.

Love these so-called "confirmations" and "exclusives" - not.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if she did end up performing the theme - all these articles are trash. The most reputable is The Sun, as their exclusives sometimes get things right. But it's still saying something.

Most of these other articles are bored showbiz journalists trying to justify their existence with "confirmations" off the back of some other trashy unsourced article. It spreads around the web like wildfire and the sad fact is, the more journos pick up on it (and the more we talk about it, the higher expectations are going to be set.

I would advise all members to completely ignore any articles claiming to know the title singer until we have actual confirmation from EON, the artist themself, or Thomas Newman. Sorry if this rant sounded too harsh!
