Great to hear (mostly) positive reviews of the full song. Can't wait to finally hear it in cinemas! It's hard to not listen to it after such great feedback.

At least I won't be spending my money on this song. The chorus sounds laughable.

    A major disappointment.
We get it, you don't like it. Boy oh boy, talk about redundancy.
  • So I haven't been on this thread really up till now - just listened to the full song made available an hour ago - and I like it - love the nod to classic Connery Bond Shirley Bassey numbers that centre around the title. My only criticism is that I would have liked it to be a shade faster in tempo - even Bassey's Goldfinger was faster. But a worthy Bond theme! - now if only someone would wipe Madonna's Die Another Day from history!

I'm part of the tiniest majority (maybe just me and Madonna herself) that actually quite liked DAD (the song). Not one of the best, but I don't really get the overwhelming negativity to it.

Actually I don't think Madonna likes it either. :P

Sounds like it clipped and dropped out for a fraction.

Wonder who's fault and if they'll give me a better copy.

    Try iTunes first I suppose

Just listen to the 1:30 preview of the song. I am very pleased! It is worthy of Bond and it's a great throw back to the old days of Connery's Bond. It's perfect for the 50th anniversary movie. The song it self has got me pumped for the movie!
  • *Trembling* What a perfect song! It's so classic Bond. Brought to mind the songs of old (a la FRWL through DAF). It's yet another indication that the filmmakers really are going for that old-fashioned, old-school Bond vibe.

And in response to those people who are saying that Muse's "Supremacy" should have been the Skyfall song, I just want to say my piece, which is: I love Muse, but "Supremacy" sounds like nothing more or less than a Muse song, whereas "Let the Sky Fall" sounds like both a Bond theme AND an Adele song. VERY few artists can pull that off.

Now I can't stop listening to it. I'll probably be bored of the song by the time the movie starts showing....

Hoping for a music video of it soon!

I definitely like the full song. I'm not sure if I love it. I suspected the tempo wouldn't increase. I like the echoing backup vocals. Sounds like a choir. Not sure if I like the brief outro and intro. I’m not sure about Grammy material. Why are people so convinced of this?

Best song since either TWINE or Goldeneye. When the TWINE theme song first came out I loved it and went out and bought the CD single.

I wonder how many other stations around the world will premiere it today.

Happy James Bond Day! I’m going to open a bottle of bubbly tonight and watch Dr No. Can’t think of anything more appropriate. :)

Still trying to decide how I feel about it. Like I said when I first heard Cornell's Casino Royale theme, I'll decide if I like it when I see how it pairs with naked women and gun silhouettes (though in Cornell's case, it turned out to be flying cards and spirals). Three things that come to mind
    1) My biggest complaint is Adele is too dang obvious. There have been plenty of bands that everyone thinks it perfect for Bond, but the recent choices, Jack White, Chris Cornell, even Madonna and Sheryl Crow, didn't have anything new on the radio at the time, unlike Adele, who seems to have a different single playing every other song on the radio.
2)It's too cliche. Through 50 years of Bond themes, the songs have transitioned from the jazzy sound of Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones to the rock-and-roll sound of Paul McCartney to the straight-up rock sound of Chris Cornell. If they wanted a throwback to the 60's, I still think they should have just brought Shirley Bassey herself into the recording studio.
3)The lyrics. It's okay to sing about Skyfall as an abstract thought, but continually referring to Skyfall as a location, which we know it is in the movie, makes it hard to take the song seriously out of context.

Anyway, I think I'm going to go on the record, and draw ire, and say I liked Jack White & Alicia Keye's effort better.

I like it very much. Good feeling and great vocals. Wouldn't called it my favorite, but Skyfall is a good theme song.
Nevertheless right now is only a piece of music. We have to hear it in the film and assess it in that context..

I don't mind Another Way to Die but I definitely think Skyfall is better. I think it has a catchy tune but what I will say as I have in the past, is that it does lack originality. Despite all the orchestral sounds, the song is a bit on the plain, unoriginal side but I still like the tune (maybe because much of it is the 007 theme ;) ) and will download it from i tunes.

Ohhh, they're playing it on the radio as I write this.

Could you provide a link? According to my site it's at 70, and when I go to the page that lists all the countries, it's not in any of the top 10's.

That's interesting, because THIS link also says the single is at 70.

But here is a screen-cap from my actual US iTunes program:

    Strange indeed.

I don't actually have iTunes downloaded, I'm just checking out the main site.

We'll see tomorrow when everyone wakes up.

I was following it to see how quickly it went up the charts...I first saw it at 82, 68, 20, 12, 10, and now 4. I'm hoping for a #1 by morning :) And hopefully in the US Billboards soon as well :)
  • I'm also reading articles saying that it may not be eligible for an Oscar nomination because of it's un-original score :/ What do you guys think?

The lyrics are original, the orchestration is original, the only 'red flag' is the Bond theme but it's not in full, it only uses ques.

I say that's a mighty silly reason to strike down Adele if the Oscars go that route.

I think that's fair enough. The 007 theme is fairly consistent throughout. What would you rate it out of 10 Adelefan?

Adele and the orchestra are great. Love the Bond brass. But really, the production is bad, no dynamics, no depth, no warmth. It's specifically mixed for surround effect and that's the worst one can do when it's about music..

Mmm, I agree to an extent Muddyw. I think it does have some emotional resonance in the chorus though.

They're really promoting it on the radio. They keep talking about Global James Bond Day too.

Just heard the song, and I really liked it. The only thing that they could have left out, are the backup singers. Adele's voice is good enough.

I personally would have preferred less chorus and orchestra background. I'm used to listening to Adele very stripped down with just a piano or guitar when she sings live. Most of her music performed live are more emotionally intense and less instrumental. I do enjoy the song a lot though and I love it! I'm dying to see a live performance. It would be beautiful. It's very catchy and the rhythm in her voice goes up and down nicely throughout it all I think.

Now as a song by Adele I can do without the orchestra and back-up singers easily. She doesn't need much to sing an amazing song. But I see how a song like this would create a mood in a film. The orchestra adds a very dramatic element to the song as well as the chorus singers and it will definitely enhance any emotions created by the film. I hope the James Bond Theme doesn't make it ineligible for an Oscar nomination.
