Just came across this song. Was this an EON reject? It was from an early 80s album.

I really don't mean to go off topic, but while we are discussing alternate themes, here are four more that I found on Youtube:

This is Dionne Warwick's theme for Thunderball, that most people here already know I'm sure

    This is Johnny Cash's Thunderball

This is Alice Cooper's Man With the Golden Gun

This is Ace of Base's Goldeneye

I Love Blondie and I even met her in person but I still prefer Sheena Easton's version better

Blondie's version seemed a bit tooo fast

Wow. With all the films it's easy to understand the choices the producers made. Especially Thunderball. It's not a bad song and I love Johnny Cash, but Cash and Bond? hell no!

by the bye, found this one too:

anyone know why we had to listen to Alicia Key's screaming instead of this? I don't think it's good, but it's lightyears better then what we now got!

Is there any proof of that being a rejected theme? If so I'd like to know what else is out there.
  • I've had so many years of hearing the "real" themes as part of the Bond canon that it's hard to hear them as...well, as "just songs". But I don't like Blondie's take on FYEO at all. Even if the production was changed to make it sound more like a film theme than a new wave single I still prefer Easton's version by a huge margin.

according to WIKI, Blondie did write a song for FYEO and then they themselves decided not to go thru with it

The producers of the film wanted Blondie to perform the title song: the band wrote a song titled "For Your Eyes Only", but decided to decline the offer when they discovered the producers wanted a recording of Bill Conti's song instead. Blondie's song can be found on their 1982 album, The Hunter.

Sorry @j7wild, I was more referring to @CommanderRoss' Quantum Of Solace theme he posted. But thank you for the For Your Eyes Only information, I didn't know that, much appreciated.

As for the song in question, it's far too referential to Casino Royale and it's dialogue in my opinion when it in fact needs to be about the current film. I'm very glad it wasn't used.

I actually like Blondie's FYEO more than Sheena Easton's. Debbie Harry actually had a good "Bond" voice.

    Johnny Cash was embedded.

Alice Cooper version of TMWTGG was good, but I'll stick with Lulu's up tempo version.

Good move on not going with Abba Lite, I mean, Ace of Base on GE. There's no competing with Tina Turner.

@Samuel001 to be honest I know as much about the background of songs as I do about the inner workings of Jupiter. No, scratch that, I know probably more about Jupiter. I wouldn't know, I seldom end up on YouTube, but that's what it came up with after listening to Blondie.

edit: after some searching I found this: http://www.myspace.com/evaalmer
seems they did send it to EON, but I don't know if it really was in the running.
