Perhaps because, in that particular year, the category "Best Original Song" was very very competitive? So that in the end there actually were better songs than "Live And Let Die"?

That is not exactly true. The "Original Song" nominations from the Oscars have always been quite different from the "Original Song" nominations from the Globes. In the past decade I think only John Legend and Adele won both the Oscar and the Globe. Actually, it was Adele and her song "Skyfall" that really upscaled the category quality-wise.
There's also a small chance "SPECTRE" gets an Oscar nomination for "Best Sound Editing"....
Again, it's not that easy. Usually only two songs from the Golden Globe nominees list makes it to the Oscars final 5:

People too easily say IMO that the category "Original Song" is a weak one. But if people in here would take a better and more detailed look at the entire shortlist (it has 74 songs on it), then perhaps people start liking this category a bit more.
Also, for the "Original Song" category with the Oscars, documentary features are eligible. So following songs that were not nominated for the Golden Globes, but that I think are quite good as well. Interesting to note, is that Brian Wilson's song for "Love & Mercy" has been disqaulified for the Oscars:

Taking into account not only song quality and song originality, but also fame of the artist, the reviews of the actual feature (film, animation, documentary) and the actual movie distributors backing/promoting the song, I think these 5 will make the cut:

I personally think "SPECTRE" isn't that safe in this category as miny people might think. The shortlist of 74 songs is simply too big, thus leading to more uncertainties and variations as compared to the Golden Globe list of "Original Song".

If you had asked me yesterday, I also wouldn't have expected Tarantino and 'The Hateful Eight' to be snubbed entirely, aside from Leigh's nom for acting. No directing, no score, no Best Pic, no writing, nothing? Tarantino really got shafted on this one.
Absolutely. A big part of me was worried it would get left aside and only get technical nominations. Good to see Miller get Best Director, too.
It's a shame that Inarritu and his team will get both of these instead, though. I don't think it's fair for people to highlight how hard it was for them to shoot 'The Revenant,' so they deserve all the awards, when 'Fury Road' was just as taxing to make, and a lengthy process, too.
And for the record I think it's a far better film than The Revenant, too.
I found Inarritu's film far too self indulgent for my liking. While Lubezki's cinematography was pretty (as expected), the shooting style draws far too much attention to itself and often sucks me out of the film - exactly the opposite of what is intended, I'm sure.
The acting from Leo and Hardy in particular was superb though.
But you're right, it's a shame that The Revenant is probably going to win both of those gongs in particular.
Could've swore I didn't see it in the list I was checking earlier, but good, it deserves that nomination and win.
I predicted four out of five in the category "Original Song" ;). Including my favourite "Fifty Shades Of Grey" song from The Weeknd as opposed to that dreadful overproduced Elli Goulding song. Overlooked by the Globes, but luckily included in the Oscars.
And like I expected, another ghastly rap entry, that 'thing' from "Furious 7", did not make the cut. Do you hear me @Creasy47 :-P?
Anyway, another Oscar nomination for "SPECTRE"! Congratulations to Sam Smith, James Napier....andddd the Bond franchise :-)! After the four Oscar wins, this is now the 12th Oscar nomination for a Bond film.
I think Sam Smith and Lady GaGa are the frontrunners now to win it, with a slightly better chance for Lady GaGa. Both Sam Smith and Lady GaGa already won a Golden Globe last Sunday. But this does 'feel' more of a Lady GaGa year at the Oscars.
Yup, absolutely deserved. Smart blockbusters do make the cut. Like "The Dark Knight" in 2009, "Avatar" and "District 9" in 2010, "Inception" in 2011, "Hugo" in 2012, "Skyfall" in 2013 (if there was a 10th "Best Picture" nomination in 2013, "Skyfall" would have made the cut, and the Bond film then would have had 6 Oscar nominations), "Gravity" in 2014 and "Interstellar" in 2015.
And now also "The Martian" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" join the Oscars. Funny to see that the Academy loves (space based) Sci-Fi so much.
