    die

So I load this page on my laptop, and all I see at first is a blank, white screen and the word "die." Thought I had been hacked for a second. :)) You scared The Living Daylights out of me.

The very start of Bond 25, have Bond rushing into a hospital with Madaline Swann in his arms. Not dead, poisoned. Bond is frantic, scared, angry. How did this happen? Quick flashback to him and Swann enjoying their new life together. Then we see Bond arriving at their holiday villa with her on the floor, unconscious. There's a broken window. Bond hears someone inside the villa. He fights one, two intruders but both die without telling WHO did this and WHY? Jump back to present and the doctors tell Bond they do not know what she has taken / been given, but it is shutting her organs down, one-by-one. James leaves the room distraught. He then looks down the hospital corridor and sees...Blofeld. James runs after him, but Blodfeld doesn't run. He has no goons to protect him either. He just stands there and let's James (not thinking at this point) beat him to a pulp. Blofeld starts to laugh, his face bloody and cut but still smiling. And then, seriously. "If you want her to live you will work for me." Blofeld has the power to save Swann, but only if Bond comes over to Spectre; to bring down MI6 and the UK government. Cue theme song.
And the Angels of Death are all women from Bond's past..... he must seduce them all in one night.

If you could pick a time in the history of the Bond franchise where you were tasked with writing the next script, this must be one of the most challenging?

If the next script is to follow the SP storyline as a continuation, then yes, it is a challenging time. They've sort of boxed themselves in I think.

However, if they were just to write a new from scratch Bond story and not link it immediately to the Spectre organization (except perhaps at the very end as a cliffhanger perhaps) then I think they could come up with something really interesting.
  • If they don't kill off Madeline Swan, they should consider allowing her to do what she nearly did in the last act of "SPECTRE" . . . leave Bond.

Daniel Craig and Lea Seydoux have no real chemistry. For me, their relationship was the only real obstacle in the movie . . . like Sean Connery and Claudine Auger in "THUNDERBALL".

In all seriousness, maybe they were considering bringing Madeline back, but after internet reactions and stuff, I really think they should just ignore her, as if whatever happened between her and Bond was just a temporary fling. Can't imagine they would bring her back. They really should just get on with a new girl.

I don't think repeating the exact same arc within the same era would work. If she dies, then before you know it Bond's going to want to seek revenge. Sound familiar?

I just can't see it happening. The idea has been butchered to death.

By die I don't mean "die". I mean just being ignored and done with.

How about recasting Swann with Bellucci? Just like EON did in the 'Blofeld trilogy' by having Charles Grey of YOLT come back as Blofeld in DAF. That way Bellucci will have a lot more screen time. :>

I thought Seydoux was quite good in the film, it's just that I felt she had no chemistry with Craig.

I don't think that's a bad thing @DaltonCraig007, the way I read it was that they're not really in love they just think they are so that they can leave the lives that they are currently living.

If they play that angle in Bond 25 I'd be happy with it, @tanaka123.

That's just the way I read it in Spectre @DaltonCraig007, but maybe I'm just retconning that in my mind :)

Seydoux was meh really. I thought Craig had better chemistry with Kurlyenko, even though they didn't get it on. So it wasn't only a script issue (because QoS wasn't all that great script wise either). There was something not quite there, although it wasn't terrible either. They just seemed bored in a way to me.

Really? I thought their chemistry was spot on, particularly in the L'Americaine scenes.

Yes, you would think that with all professional actors that they can create that chemistry as it's their job but it's clearly not that simple. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't

L'Americaine as a setting was quite good. That was the best of their scenes together, and perhaps in the Rolls.

The rest just seemed like they were reading lines. I didn't feel a spark and I don't think I'm alone in this assessment.

Again, not terrible, but just not up to the level expected from the song lyrics and from the narrative (leaving for her etc.).

Swann worked pretty well for me. My wife didn't think it worked all that well, though. Tricky one.

It seems to have worked for the Bond fans that wanted it to work. I don't think the average viewer felt invested in this relationship (or the film in general, actually).

The only reason it worked for me is that I could imagine falling for Lea in those circumstances. I believed it.

I thought that Seydoux did a fantastic job in the film. Her and her character were one of the few highlights of Spectre and she actually did a good job of carrying the film, IMO.

Now, as for chemistry with Craig? I think they had some, but it's hard to tell because it felt like Craig was pretty much bored with the character in the film and it came across on screen in a big way.

This could be it. Craig seemed to have more interest in the rat/mouse than anything else happening in the film. That's the only time I saw that spark that he gives off in the other performances.

I kind of view it in a way where I try to separate Bond from Craig in this film. I absolutely believe that Bond would fall for Swann, given the whole deal about her understanding him and accepting him for who he is, and so on. Seydoux, IMO, brought it on her end to the point that I'd rank her right near the top of my favorite Bond girls of the entire franchise.

I don't think Craig really brought much to Spectre, though. Easily his weakest performance in the role, which is a shame since, except for Casino Royale, this film was the one that needed to be good the most out of Craig's films, since it has the potential to lay the foundation for several films to come given the return of SPECTRE.

A slightly better than average Bond girl. Not worthy of another film, in my opinion.

I'd like to see her die in the PTS of the next one and have the team that adapted Fleming's Casino Royale for the screen (Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis, & Robert Wade) return to adapt the YOLT novel and make it Craig's last (if he decides to return).

I agree I want them to closely adapt YOLT. CR for me is the best Bond and I think a big part of that is twofold - they were using Fleming source material, and they updated the story well. I'd like to see them do the same for YOLT for Bond 25, if they did I imagine the credits wouldn't boldly state 'based on the novel YOLT by Ian Fleming' due to already having made a version of YOLT. However, with Swann they need to do something ingenious and unexpected whether that involves her death or not.

I had an idea that the Garden of Death could be a giant greenroom within the outer walls of the castle and "Dr. Shatterhand" (for lack of a better way to refer to him) could be importing exotic plants from all over the world--gathering toxins for some kind of weapon of mass destruction. What his plan is once he has made the weapon won't matter because the Garden of Death and all that was sort of sidelined in the story--at least if I'm remembering it correctly (it's been a couple years since I read these).

Deadly toxins? Its a bit MR for my liking. Or even if its not on a global scale like Drax still a bit derivative of MI2.

I dont see why Blofeld cant have the Garden as Death as written just as 1) an amusement for himself to let the Japanese top themselves 2) As a defensive barrier to stop the likes of Bond inflitrating. Perhaps have a few lions and boa constrictors roaming around too.

This can just be part of his hideout and a sideline to his main scheme which needs to be a lot more grandiose and dastardly than just taking over surveillance of the worlds security services.
