This is probably the saddest song I’ve ever heard. But it’s also extremely beautiful and a wonderful gem from a great band. I imagine the story could be adapted and lengthened well if done the right way.

I think this is the best 'never was a Daniel Craig James Bond theme song' ever.*

    *Well maybe.

Hey people...not being on any other "music" boards I'm wondering if anyone here can give me some enlightenment regarding the following:

I have, of course, the commonly known version of Silence Is Golden by The Tremeloes from 1967 (and yes, I know it's actually a 1964 Four Seasons cover, but that's a different story). It typically runs for about 3:10 and starts with a short guitar intro (also like the Four Seasons original, btw). In the following clip from the 70s, they are obviously lip-syncing to the original 1967 recording:

Now I discovered that, on a non-descript promotional CD sampler ("Golden Memories") from 1993, I also have a version that runs for about 3:40, starts with an organ prelude of God Save the Queen(!) and then follows up with an (almost, but for an organ background) acapella version of the song. I also found that version here:

Now both my CD liner and the YouTube clip insist that this is also a Tremeloes version. I don't believe it. It sounds more like the Flying Pickets, but these do not seem to have recorded the song. The Tremeloes themselves, according to allmusic.com, did not record any album after 1970. But the "long" version sounds considerably better (recordingwise) than the common one, so I'd wager it's much more recent. Brian Poole seems to have done a new version on a 1995 album, but it's only 3:20, and that sampler CD of mine has a production date of 1993 on it (I didn't find the Poole album on amazon, either).

Do any of you (looking at you in particular, my fellow Boomers!) have an idea what this could be about? Thanks for reading this far... :-)
