Coleman was 25 or 26 when cast next to Matt Smith's 29 year old Doctor Who. I think it might be a weird stretch of the imagination to think Clara is going to feel the same way being around Capaldi's Doctor. But who knows, it's a sci-fi show so I guess anything is possible. I still think a younger Doctor feels more suitable when you've got a fairly young actress as companion - well, certainly for Nu era Doctor Who.
Obviously, the originals series had older Doctors with younger companions (most notably when William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton were cast) but that format ended in 1989! The modern era show - 2005 onwards - is, to a considerable degree, a different take on the format with an emphasis on younger actors in the main roles.
Changes had to be made after the last series, which was quite frankly, the worst since the show was brought back in 2005.
Let's be given a chance to see him in action first before all the negativity eh?
Kind of reminds me of all the fuss when a certain 'blonde haired actor' landed the part of James Bond 8 years ago. I wonder whatever happened after that?........... ;-)
Yes, I may even start watching it myself, who knows!
I do wonder this, if he'll do more than three series. I agree, it must be a right pain having the recast every four years though three is what most Doctor's do.
And unlike Eccleston, who was probably the most famous actor to take on the part, he's actually a fan of the show. So I could see him lasting a while.
As a fan I think he'll stick around for a while...this doctor won't put us in a spin....see what I did there...spin....doctor...and he played a spin doctor..get it?..Doctor....spin....spin doctor.....ah forget it....
Quite. This new Doctor should well and truely link the two. Plus to very young children an adult is an adult, they don't really see the age of the person.
I hope so. Expect only the three and you can never be disappointed. That's what I say.
At least he'll look back at his time with great fondness. I'm sure we all would have loved him to say a while longer.
The thought did go through my mind too. Maybe he regrets leaving, which i'm a little confused as I was under the impression that he wasn't altogether happy about how his Doctor was being handled. But then his departure was sudden, it sounded like he was going to stay on for 2014.
By the way, was Rory Kinnear actually in the running, do you think? Last I looked at this thread he was the top guess.
Good read...I always thought Colin salmon would be an awesome Doctor...
Somehow his name got added to the list but he said he didn't have or want the part as soon as that happened.

why cant they embrase the cheaper production in an effort to produce the 13 episodes a year instead of constantly moving the production back.
I dont get it about sherlock either. the main characters change their appearance almost never, there are a total of 5 locations a episode, sherlocks flat, the police station and the morgue are in each then a murder scene and a follow up scene. that coupled with the fact the stories are only getting modernised does not make any sense that the show takes two years to make?
It was well publicised that production on series 3 would be delayed due to both of the lead actors' scheduling commitments, in particular Freeman who has been in New Zealand filming The Hobbit trilogy.

I reckon it was Adrian Leicester, Luther or Colin Salmon....
