Maybe that will be the crushing blow that ends the two party system.

But-but-how would we fight selfishly amongst ourselves after that?

You know it's bad when even the republicans don't want the oval office anymore.

They do want the Oval Office. They know Trump has hijacked the GOP however.

The GOP was on a path to extinction (presidentially) in its previous iteration. It had to be shaken up, reconnect with its grass roots and be re-energized.

Trump won't waste any time taking the credit for it either, just like he apparently helped us all by getting Obama to release his birth certificate (through incessant whining and slandering). How noble.

Perhaps, but regardless, it is a re-energized presidential election base this time out. He's just the fuse that lit the flame that has been burning within (and yet ignored by party big wigs) the GOP for years.

Has it? Last time I checked Trump revived the ugliest form of sentiments. Racism, male chauvinism, ignorance. That's what was missing from the public sphere? That's what the GOP had to reconnect with?

I think he means that Trump and his approach have shown how disillusioned and frustrated people have become with Washington political types, and how a greater appeal and understanding needs to be made towards that populace so that another Trump doesn't happen that again hijacks their party.

Last time I noticed, @bondjames didn't appreciate having words put into his mouth... I dunno, maybe I'm just misinterpreting things... ;)

Well, I wrote "I think he means" to safeguard against that. I don't like pretending like I know what someone means, so I make sure to be clear when I'm only having a stab at interpreting a thought. We don't need to worry, though. @bondjames is a rather amicable fellow.

Now then, to get to @Ludovico's post: IMHO racism, male chauvinism, jingoism, etc. have been a strong part of the GOP's position for quite awhile, although always on the downlow. It may be that Trump has done America a favor by bringing these elements right out into the open, so that they can be acknowledged and eradicated. But I don't think that was ever consciously a part of his plan...

    I don't fear Trump.
But I would have feared Ted Cruz. Never forget it could be him running now.

Regardless, Cruz at least looked like an educated man. Trump doesn't even look like an educated monkey. I may even be insulting monkeys by making this comparison.

True, but rather a monkey in the White House than a dangerous psychopath.

Even Trump is a psychopath. His stupidity hides it.

I think so - if not worse. I really fear a Trump presidency; I'm going to do my civic duty and vote against him.

Is there anyone remaining to be convinced? The Atlantic has endorsed 3 presidential candidates in its long history: Abraham Lincoln, LBJ, and now, Hillary. http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2016/10/05/the_atlantic_has_endorsed_three_candidates_ever_lincoln_lbj_and_hillary.html

Ted Cruz' reluctant endorsement is looking smaller every moment. Does 2020 belong to him, to Paul Ryan, or to Mike Pence? At least the GOP has something to look forward to...

Some people seem to be getting very emotional and it's troubling.

@BradyM0Bondfanatic7 , you explained my thinking well enough.

Bottom line: I think only someone like Trump could have pulled this off. With the GOP, it had to be an outsider to shake things up, and a rich one. The elites were so entrenched within it, and the guiding corporate serving & warmongering philosophy (which basically funds both parties) so out of touch with the majority of its electorate, that no insider could have stood up against them. Anyone else would have been eviscerated if they didn't tow the line and churn out the basic party talking points, which were increasingly out of touch with mainstream America. They needed to grow the tent and shake up their constituency. That is happening this year.

A similar situation exists within a portion of the Democratic party as well (there is a portion that feels unheard, ignored & left behind) but the impetus to address it appears less urgent because of the built in demographic advantages that the party has, including in the electoral college.

For those of you who trust in AP #Associated OPress, one of the major news providers in the west-remember how they endorsed Hitler and how every news snippet had to be approved by Goebbels?

I still find it funny people call Trump a racist for wanting to deport illegals..

I live in Texas and in my city one of our high schools was mainly white and black and the other is 90% Mexican.

So naturally growing up I knew tons of Mexicans and a majority of them told me how they were here illegally.

My dad has had a roofing company for over 10 years and I'll work with him every now and then and most of the other companies we work with hire tons of illegals. It's crazy. I have witnessed first hand how they get free medical and health visits, basically free college (I live in a town with a few colleges), and tons of other benefits yet their parents drive brand new trucks and super nice cars.. It's pretty unfair.
  • People call Trump a racist for LOTS of documented stuff, like refusing to rent to blacks back in the '70s. Look it up.

Illegal Immigration is a huge issue with lots of different ramifications that will take everyone involved working together to solve. I live in California and have worked alongside both legal and illegal immigrants since 1971, so I'm not unaware of the situation. But it's going to take a lot more than saying "I WILL build a wall!" to fix it. Trump ain't the guy to do anything more than flap his lips.

Even more dangerous than Bush and the neocons? Think how many people have died in Middle Eastern wars. How ISIS was armed by the West trying to depose the Syrian leader. The chaos after deposing the Libyan leadership. The ongoing provocation of Russia.

Could Trump be worse? If anything he seems to be against wars and conflict

I'd prefer to live next door to rude harmless man, than a polite serial killer
