Chain Letters?

I remember my late father getting a chain letter back in the mid-1990s when I was still a child of about ten or so. It was a handwritten letter saying that if the reader of the letter did not make a copy of the letter and pass it on to ten/twenty people terrible things would happen rather than all the good fortune that flowed from the letter. My father thought it was from a woman and he ended up either burning it or tearing it up. It's something that always sticks in my mind.

Some chain letters are harmless (though a waste of one's time!), others can be religious oriented and some may even be malicious.

I'm sure that some members here have also received these letters although there are now chain emails too.

Please share any interesting stories about such chain letters here in this thread. :)

Has anyone out there ever received one of these either by letter or email?

Never received anything like this before. I, obviously, know of them but, fortunately, have never been the recipient of one. To be honest, I'd either delete the email or throw the letter in the bin.

I've seen chain YouTube comments, but had never heard of letters before now. Also have never received one.

Got a chain email once, I just deleted it and nothing bad happened.
Also in America would it be called "Chainmail" ;)

I was going to say in the OP that I think there was a woman on the BBC who offered a similar service and I noticed in a newspaper a while back a question to the effect that did anything bad ever happen to her? I personally doubt it!

I've often wondered ( Chain letter connection) in charity leaflets etc, if any
"Subliminal " messaging techniques have ever been used ? I've read before
that some books are rumoured to use these " The catcher in the rye " for
    instance.

Another fine superstition that humans still cling to believing. The susceptibility some have to things like this keep me up at night.

Yes, agreed, it is all rather worrying how people are taken in by this dung.

Well, yes, that is a different form of it I suppose but they used to do it letters long ago. Now It's much easier to disseminate crap like this through electronic means. The wonders of technological advancement!

What makes our society unique is that we're able to use every step forward to jump at least five back. We put real effort into not putting in effort.
