Thank you, that's actually a very good point. I don't watch any of these modern TV shows mentioned by the way - fantasy's not my sort of thing really.
You mean like that ?
yes that's much more tasteful.
:))
Spartacus
Fargo
Gotham (eyeball removed with a spoon, torture scene,)
Sons of Anarchy (guys digging eyeballs out)
American Horror Story from season 2 on
The Walking Dead
Just adding to your list @Thunderpussy
@DaltonCraig007, not as much as you enjoyed the sight of that nude body! ;)
That scene most certainly took me by surprise.
@Creasy47 please don't make this into an argument, I only asked you to respect my views. If I don't wish to watch TV programmes with nudity that's my business. I don't pay for HBO. I've never seen an episode of Game of Thrones. Don't demean your position as a moderator.
( For research ) ;)
No, you were cutting in on a reply I made to someone else entirely, so you took offense over something not directed at you, unless you took offense to the harmless joke I made about the human body somehow.
If it's paid for then surely it's ok, since the buyer knows what he/she is getting, no?
There was a rape scene. The victim is a young woman, about 16-18 and a high bred "lady" while the rapist is a sadist cocksucker, a bastard by birth but raised to legitimacy. It may have been tame but I (and others found it rather disturbing). the rapist makes his degraded servant watch.
The burning of the child at the stake is more disturbing. Hearing her screams while her mother looks on (mother later hangs herself).
All you folks who play simplistic by the "don't watch" comments is beside the point. Violence in Bond films is tastefully done, 24 which I thought was a violent show handled the deaths and torture with class and did not resort to the graphic displays we are subjected to today. The first season of American Horror Story did not resort to what later seasons show us.
Remember that old western "Winchester 73 ' ? the scene where the native Americans killed and scalped the gun dealer? It was never shown. His dead body was not zoomed in, guys who found him just made a comment on the scalping. Nowadays we would see the whole bloody scene in its entirety.
lol, the red wedding was very upsetting. I never said I approve of that bloodfest. Seeing what befell Robb and his family was very sad and shocking (that scene is in the book by the way)
As for teens being poisoned at their wedding, I and many others was glad to see that happen. The character was so despicable and I have one friend who (while watching it on DVD) reversed and watched it again. :))
We are still a bunch of barbarians and our popular shows do tell that we are still a bloodthirsty bunch.
@bondjames I wasn't and aren't really objecting to anything. I'm okay with nudity been on TV paid for or not, but I decide not to watch it. If someone else pays for it and wants to watch it that's for them to decide not me. I don't have a problem with other people watching it if they so wish.
at all. Can't understand how Rape, can be seen as entertainment.
A thread about the influx of violence on tv, and I wondered how long it would be until The Walking Dead was going to be brought up. I was going to suggest people "look at the flowers", guess I don't have to now.
I find the violence in "Casino" much more disturbing than most action films , feels more realistic.
This thread was about TV in particular but since you mentioned "Casino" I consider that to be a train wreck. "Goodfellas" by comparison is one of Scorsese's masterpieces. Violent but in context while "Casino" just went too far. Like "Predator" versus "Total Recall". One the violence is in step while the other is just Way over the Top.
IMO...
Love that shot of Nixon in there.
I think it was Twin Peaks that started this trend of violent tv. Some scenes there were absolutely shocking in 1990, but no one would raise an eyebrow today, with all the serial killer and forensics shows we have been flooded with the past couple of decades.
