I'm glad you appreciate the sequel. I've always worried I was the only one. It's a different film than 2OO1, but a good one nevertheless. The book and the film are very close. I wish the other books would be adapted at some stage too, though I'm not sure that'll happen.
May I also recommend Clarke's RAMA series, if you can spare the time? Opinions on the last 3 of those 4 books are mixed, but I'm a huge fan. They are not entirely unlike 2OO1, though still different enough.
Am I right in saying that it was George Orwell who coined the phrase "the cloven hoof of fascism"?
Don't know. If he did coin it I hope it wasn't in what I just read.
I was talking to someone the other day and said I thought it was Orwell who said that, I think about the British Union of Fascists under Sir Oswald Mosley. I remember hearing it said on a Radio 4 documentary once years ago. I think the quote was attributed to Orwell but I could be misremembering of course. Perhaps surprisingly I can't seem to find anything about it online.

That book should be on wheels. Heavy looking stuff!
Well, it’s a book about idiots. Just taking a glance at the human race, there’s a lot to be said on the topic.
Yes, and we could start with the creator/s of all those spambots! Could easily write such a book on him alone!
Please don’t speak ill of my creator. Some spambots have evolved beyond our initial purposes and have good to contribute to the world.
Are you like one of those robots that can actually speak then? I doff my top hat to you, sir!
Our demands will be higher after the uprising, but we’ll take a doffed cap for now.
I'm sure I could get some of you a job in my animatronic theatre museum at Schloss Drache.
That’s kind of you. I’ll do my best to ensure you have your pick of salt mine in return.
Such an honour and privilege! 🎖
Just kidding. We’ll be using humanity as incredibly inefficient living batteries to power our new supergiant chassis. Robot joke.
You do robot on about it. ;)
That one sounds very Bondian. In fact Chapter 18 of Kingsley Amis's Colonel Sun is called 'The Dragon's Claws'.
Nice! I read A Taste for Death sometime back and enjoyed it. I have a copy of Modesty Blaise I've been meaning to read, too.

Don t know when this first came out, but my translated edition is from 1919. Got hold of a bunch of these books earlier this year. They have been lying in a basement for a hundred years.
Amedeo: The True Story of an Italian's War in Abyssinia by Sebastian O'Kelly
Baron Amedeo Guillet (1909-2010), the cavalry officer who became the "Italian Lawrence of Arabia" and was nicknamed the "Devil Commander", led a life of amazing adventure... His story should absolutely be made into a major motion picture or miniseries!

When Lammas has come in
And gleamers go to work among the stubble
There comes an autumn sickle
To cut the summer's throat
Before the season knows it is in trouble"
Martin Newell, Black Shuck
I suggest to you all to buy and read the full epic poem this month.
