I think the dynamic with Q changed from Roger to Tim as there was quite an age difference between Bond and Q by then. Both Roger and Sean were closer to Desmond's generation, and could get away with giving Q sh!t and vice versa now and then. Tim would have looked outright disrespectful saying some of the things Roger could quip: "Having problems keeping it up, Q?" and so forth.
I think with Pierce the rapport softened even more. But Tim and Desmond had great chemistry, especially in LTK.

In the final face-off between Bond and Sanchez the gritty violence works.
Dalton really knows everyone out in the acting department. Almost wish I could see him in QoS.
