Whishaw isn't half as obnoxious in SF than I remembered. He's still stupid in this one though.

Sometimes Mendes knows what he's doing.

The scene outside the DB5 in Scotland showing M and Bond in their profile talking about parents is wonderful.
Subtext, M is Bond's surrogate mother, and their profiles are so similar it's uncanny.

Mendes seems to use symbolism quite a bit in this film anyway, although it doesn't quite work in most instances.

It's quite astonishing how uneven this film is.

The Skyfall sequence, before Silva arrives (and after) is truly flawless and epic.
Dench, Finney and Craig. It can't and never will get better than this.

If the whole film was like that, it would even knock OHMSS out of the park.

Do the plot holes bother you or are you able to look past them in skyfall

Some of SF is beyond bad writing yes @JamesBondKenya but if you turn off your brain after Silva gets captured until they arrive in Skyfall, it's quite an exciting ride.

Bond on ice and under water, oh how I love the atmosphere of this. Great cinema here.

the Skyfall sequence is quite long, I think more than 30 minutes and thankfully so, makes me wish the 20 minutes before would have spend here as well.

Marlohe. The greatest opportunity missed ever.
Imagine HER as Swann in SP.

Marlohe got to be the hottest while best Bond girl actress ever. Goddess Eva Green not counted, naturally.

That belongs in the missed opportunities thread.

This pre-title-sequence is unique and probably my favorite in the series.

It's the only time we actually get to the villain's lair in a Pts!
Furthermore this sequence builds up the end-game between Bond and Scaramanga.
Once we arrive in that late point in the film, we already know how the fun-house works.
This adds greatly to the excitement.

It's exotic and filled with fantasy too. The fun-house and Scaramanga's living space is highly fascinating and very well constructed.

The titles are typically Binder and as usual brilliant. Lulu's rather happy-go-lucky pop song is a welcome change to what came before. Love the lyrics too.

The M office sequence is great, love these two lines from Bernard Lee especially:

Bond: Who would pay a million dollars to have me killed?
M: Jealous husbands, outraged chefs,|humiliated tailors. The list is endless.

    and

Bond: If I found him first, sir, that might change the situation.
    M: Dramatically, wouldn't you say?

I love how Lee delivers his lines!

Moneypenny: I noticed once more the many pictures/paintings of flowers on Moneypenny's office wall. I wonder what's the story behind that.

Saida, Q & Lazar - three short but memorable scenes. She's charming and the fight is quite something, funny and Bond throws a punch and gets some too.
Saida: No! I've lost my charm!
Bond: Not from where "I'm" standing.
Q is funny and focused as ever and quite an expert on bullets it seems.
Lazar I like a lot, what little screen time can make for a memorable experience is quite astonishing. The actor playing Lazar is very good, very good indeed!
Lazar: My relationship with a client, Mr Bond, is strictly confidential. Like a doctor. A priest with a penitent.
The way Marne Maitland delivers his line for Lazar is a joy to watch.

    What about DAF?

Well I'd consider the oil rig to be that as it is where Blofeld has his operation center for the main scheme. Or Willard Whyte's penthouse maybe.

    Hello Goodnight!

Oh isn't she just adorable. So lovely, so sweet and charming. Love her MG car too.

Bond: Goodnight, would I do that to you after two years?
Goodnight: Yes, you bloody well would!

I admit I can't get enough of her. Brit Ekland really is gorgeous.

Anders, the assassination and M & Q waiting on the Queen Elizabeth:
-interesting how cruel Bond treats Anders here, but then it's his life and I would do the same
-the street/alley sequence is really great, reminds me of a film noir
-MI6 has offices everywhere, I mean seriously now!

Again Bernard Lee delivers some wonderful lines here. And so does Desmond: "Really, 007!"

After a short break on we go with tonight's screening of TMWTGG :P

Scaramanga is always one step ahead of Bond. Hai Fat is quite full of himself.

Oh poor Goodnight! ...and everything else warm??

    "Take Mr. Bond to school!"
Definitely a favorite sequence of mine, Moore is just fabulous.

Bond in another major speed-boat sequence.
And the incomparable W.J. Pepper: "Get your cotton-picking schnoz out of my pants."

Hai Fat's demise. He was just too full of himself, but really. Love how Scaramanga builds his gun. Lee really delivers a high quality performance in this film.

Felt corny. Like most of TMWTGG. Too corny that is.

Goodnight has the keys, and the solex too! ha ha ha....

Goodnight gets captured and she's flying to Scaramanga's island....

...but first it's J.W. Pepper again...you gotta love this guy!
"Let me talk to 'em. Hello. This is Sheriff J.W. Pepper, Louisiana State Police... and tell her I'm on a mission. I've been deputised. Right?"

"You're not thinking of...?" - and just when you think you've seen it all EoN proves you wrong and delivers yet another death defying stunt!!

Now starting Quantum of Solace. This truly could go either way.

I've always been a fan of the pre-title sequence. That stays the same; a very fun, frenetic opener! A really underrated PTS.

A lackluster title song and average title credits. Pretty neutral about it. Used to dislike it more.

Bernard Lee's facial expression in the next M, Q and Bond scene is just priceless!!
    ...and one:
    "oh, Q shut up"
    ...and two:
    "Oh, shut up, Q!"
but M really has a difficult day :P

    @FoxRox
personally I hate that freaking abomination of a "song"... the titles are just meh too really.

I love this sequence from White's brief interrogation to the chase with Mitchell. This film is opening on the right note for me so far, other than the meh song/credits.

The frantic editing, which still isn't always great, is a little less distracting than usual for me this time.

Going back to London now. That was a strong first 20 minutes of action. It is so much more exciting and energetic than SP, which I had ranked above QOS for a long time. It's already starting to switch.

A shame we only got a young(ish) Craig for just two Bond films.

Bond vs. Slate is a good fight scene. This film moves very quickly. Maybe too quickly? Can't decide if I like that or not.

I like Camille. A very unique and likable Bond girl.

    "Well I missed!"

I love Craig in this. His first 3 performances as Bond are all upper-tier.
