as today is indeed the 20th anniversary of the U.S. release of
THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
I vividly recall that opening night. I was supposed to meet a group of friends for a 7pm showing, and it was sold out.
Here I was standing in line disappointed, getting ready to purchase 2 tickets for the midnight showing. One for myself and another for whoever might stay up for Bond.
My best buddy showed up and was gutted I was still in line, and even more gutted it was sold out. He was really pi$$ed we hadn't planned this so well and stormed out. It was funny.
I then went to the theater department at my college to see who I might finagle into attending Pierce's 3rd outing with me. No luck. They were rehearsing until the wee hours and this was one year I wasn't involved.
So my Dad stepped up to the plate. It was far more fun watching the newest Bond film with him. He's around Pierce's age and loved the Brosnan films thus far.
This one didn't disappoint.
The Moneypenny/M scene is classic and traditional.
I love Bond shouting as he tries to stop King.

.......and the MI6 HQ explodes beginning a new tradition that will continue into the Craig era.
I love Maria Grazia Cucinotta here. Wonderful deep red leather attire. Classic, classic , classic Bond girl in a smaller role.
DAVID ARNOLD ALL THE WAY!
Aside from the ski suit and later, the underground facility, there are no casual outfits present.
Pierce is 45/46 here and does look a bit older than before. It suits him and Bond wonderfully. His hair is also considerably shorter than before. I think he looks fantastic.
Cool as ever.
The title scene is another Kleinman masterpiece. I always liked it, and this is by far my favorite Brosnan era title song. I like Surrender as well.
Also my favorite Brosnan era title.
I very seldom see dry land............
for I'm an Alligator Man................
That song always sticks with me when ever I think of that film.
Bond seduces Warmflash.
We need more scenes like this.

Here we go...............the Q scene.
Desmond is wonderful.
John Cleese is almost funny. He's pretty much made a fool of here. Pity, really.
I prefer his scene in DAD.
That's a nice jacket. I should get one like that.
...and Q makes his exit.
Might be hard for newer fans to relate, but seeing Desmond on the screen every 2 years felt like an old beloved relative on the holidays.
The love audiences felt for him was beyond words.
Pierce really looked cool behind the wheel.
When I got my driver's licence and first car I'd pretend to be Pierce cruising along.
He just looks bad a$$.
This is a good one with Arnold's score blaring away and the helicopter blades above.
If I were to pick a favorite : "Bond, James Bond" reading by Pierce it's either this one to Elektra or TND.
I like the simplicity here.
Elektra looks a bit like a woman who dated a friend of mine. Same hair cut, hair color and similar features.
She dumped his a$$ at the alter.
He whined about it for months.
Sophie Marceau is amazing.
Okay, the cinematography here isn't bad at all.
This sequence does evoke OHMSS slightly, and Arnold's score is beautiful.
I wonder if Pierce has ever skied a day in his life? I love Pierce, but somehow don't buy him on skies like I do Sir Roger.
Of course, if I were ever cast as Bond I'd be even less convincing.
He does have some cool sunglasses so that helps.
Great Bond ally for the Brosnan era.
The x-ray sunglasses are funny.
The guard Bond disarms looks like the brother of a woman I dated years ago.
I love how Bond kicks his a$$ and guzzles a martini over him.
Pierce defines cool.
That's a great Bond being Bond moment in the series.
The casino scene is interesting, and we get one cool Brosnan moment after another.
I love the sneaky Bond section that follows the Elektra love scene.
Pierce, with the open neck shirt and dinner suit looks exceptionally cool .
Bond in the Octopussy Circus jacket, Bond in the Zorin Industries jacket, Bond in the Russian Airbase uniform jacket and now Bond in the underground facility jacket.
Honestly I wouldn't mind another lead Bond girl like her. Just not an A lister.
This action sequence is fun.
Pierce's confrontation with Renaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard is pretty good. Pierce has some great facial expressions.
He's not a bad villain.
IT'S OVER.

Damn she slapped him hard there.
This scene is funny. I laugh every time.
"........... ..or did you steal it from your old friend, Renaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard?"
I do like Denise's character and performance in this film.
Of course I'm a strong supporter of Stacey Sutton's screaming, Kara, and Mary Goodnight. I'll throw Christmas Jones in there as well.
And I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I'd be all for Eon adapting some of the continuation novels for future films.
One thing is the action sequences in this film don't outstay their welcome.
I always felt the BMW motorcycle chase in TND dragged on a bit too long.
What Denise is wearing, however is perfect.
Yeah.
The audience groaned loudly.
So ends the greatest film of all time, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH.
Fun viewing, and possibly back to being my fave Brosnan.
Until I watch another Bond film, and do another re-ranking where this one ends up towards the bottom again.

The whole film has a great soundtrack.
Not one I watch regularly. Gunbarrel is one of the best. Unforgivable how the makers have messed with these in recent films.
Brilliant PTS but like the film itself a bit too much.
Claudine Auger is simply stunning. What a body! Lovely underwater photography 👍
Connery is sheer class but the signs were there that the spectacle was getting bigger than the character.
Domino looks stunning in that sexy black and white bikini... 😍
Although the mistreatment of Sharks is unforgivable.
Hate that bit where Bond and Domino are hoisted out of the dinghy by the plane. They'd have broken their necks!
Still top ten Bond for me 👍
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
The gunbarrel on the Blu-ray seems to omit the sepia tone look from the earlier DVDs.
Maybe it's my imagination?
Connery in black tie looks great here. The is a great PTS. Very moody and atmospheric. How many PTS openings take place at night?
Really only a few.
and Grant kills Howard Sprague from The Andy Griffith Show. Barney Fife's comedic replacement. I always thought the Bond double looked like Jack Dodson.
Martin Beswick. Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde.
I love the way the FRWL instrumental segues into the Bond theme.
Damn that's brilliant.
"Ah, Venice" spoken in my best Harrison Ford voice.
Kronsteen is a bad a$$ kicking his opponent's a$$ at chess.
Wonderful scene.
I love the Barry score as we transition to the Blofeld scene.
Nome of the other Blofeld's: Pleasence, Savalas, Gray or Waltz quite had the voice Eric Pohlmann provided.
Pohlmann's voice is pretty intimidating, really. Actually Max Von Sydow's was somewhat close but he looked like a gentle grandfather or uncle.
I picture the Dawson/Pohlmann Blofeld terrifying in person.
Ah, the lovely Tatiana. Daniella remains one of my favorite Bond girls.
The Istanbul location really gives this film atmosphere.
Rosa Klebb has some amazing glasses.
They're so huge she could loan them to Clark Kent and in no way anyone would recognize him as the Man of Steel. Problem solved.
Connery and Eunice. Wonderful .
Everything about Connery is perfect in this film.

The attache case remains my all time favorite gadget.
Damn it's cool.
When I was 10 I saved up for a leather attache case and put a toy assembled rifle inside. Some other cool stuff.
It was burgundy like Roger's in OP, only with black trim. The combination lock/latch was black instead of gold.
My best friend has the case in his apartment. He took it off my hands years ago.
I should call him and have him mail it to me.
Well, one of them anyway.
None of the other Bonds filmed in Istanbul quite capture the atmosphere this film has in spades.
I loved when the Bonds would actually spend time in a specific location and that location become such a strong element in the film.
Kerim Bey is the man. One of the greatest characters in the series, IMO.
007 enters his hotel room and his theme song blasts out in all it's glory.
I half expect to see Bond snap his fingers and move a little to his own tune here.
