    I really do love the scenes set in Afghanistan. Barry's score does it for me.
    Kamran hugs his buddies as he arrives home.
    I always liked Peter Lamont's sets for Kamran's palace.

    The turban scarf thingy Bond wears has more of a bluish color here, whereas the Lowery version looks more greenish. It was definitely more blue in the cinema.

    So I've come to end of yet another viewing of TLD, this time on the old SE DVD from 2000. I do prefer this version to the Lowery Blu-ray by a mile. Though it's not quite as sharp, the colors look more true to the original cinematic prints to me.
    Of course in this day and age, if one were to see a classic Bond on the big screen, it would most likely be a digital copy projected rather than a 35mm print. That would inevitably be a Lowery transfer no doubt. Pity there's a whole generation of Bond fans who have only experienced the Bonds based off the Lowery transfers. Many of the films were more colorful and rich in the cinema.

    I think Lowery did a better job on the Connery films. I believe the 007 Dossier site had a good article comparing a 35mm print of DN with the Blu-ray and various laser/ DVD transfers. I'll have to look for it.

    Although I watched my 2009 DVD recently, I'm now doing a comparison of my 2000 MGM/UA DVD of

    NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN,

    Once again I prefer this earlier DVD transfer in terms of the color timing. The 2009 edition, looks too muted and dull to me.
    Fatima's red nails and lipstick are brighter here.
    She just kicked Pettachi's ass.
    What a wuss.

    I like Bond in the gym lifting weights.
    Connery's pain face as he's being choked by Lippe gives Pierce a run for his money.
    Lippe conveniently throws Bond onto a matt.

    I'd say this DVD is marginally better color-wise. I wouldn't call it outstanding, and the sound is cleaner on the later edition
    I'll make a guess that the truest home video version to the cinematic prints would probably be one of the early laserdiscs. Even though it would have been in pan and scan.

    I think the Nassau scenes look much better on this DVD. The colors pop more.

    This DVD edition is the infamous one that had several defective copies which were missing part of the casino sequence. My copy is complete, but several were released with a missing reel apparently.

    I do remember the video game graphics in the cinema being very bright and colorful. The reds and blues extremely bright.
    Bond dancing the tango is pretty damned funny.

    Overall a good viewing, even though I watched it a couple weeks ago. I do prefer this earlier DVD, though not by much. I don't either quite represents the film as seen in cinemas. Perhaps it's the lousy Orion Logo that starts these versions? I miss the early '80's Warner's logo here.

    I always loved the SPECTRE island sequence.
    Robert Shaw is one of the great villains, IMO.
    Controversial opinion:
    I tend to think of Grant as more than just a henchman. I think of Krilencu as a henchman, maybe Kronsteen as well...sort of. Grant, Klebb and Blofeld are the main villains, IMO.
    I love the Klebb/Tania scene. Klebb is pretty damned creepy.
