there are lot of positives in this film, that simply get marred because of the decision to shoot the action scenes in seizure vision... outside of the direction of the action, I thought Forster did a terrific job, and on occasion giving us some beautiful imagery, and shots.. I thought Arnold really matured, and his score for this film was his deepest, and most refined... I also loved the production design - it had a Ken Adam post modern feel to it - and it worked really well with the whole vibe of the film...
but I don't think I could give it to anyone else but Craig - who seemed to really cement himself into the role with his performance in this film... he felt a little more opened up in terms of his personality, and the 2nd to last scene in the film, where he confront Yusef is definitive Bond in my opinion... despite a half polished script, and epileptic action sequences, Craig's performance was again strong, and carried the film the best it could.
Not going to give any further berating to this film but I have to go along with others in that Craig simply was the best thing about the last release. Not as effective or memorable as in his Casino Royale debut but I remember enough and memory jolts from all that i've read that he was the star attraction of the piece, next time about he's going to do even better by all accounts. I wish I could be more praising of this last Bond release but that's about as much as I can offer this time out.
Don't mean to be rude here but I think it's all you can offer 'this time out' because you haven't made the effort to see it again. If the only time you saw the film was in 2008 you are doing yourself a disservice. If you get so called 'memory jolts' from all that you have read about Dan being the best thing in the film you aren't even exhibiting your own opinion, but the opinion of the writer that you read. I can guarantee if you were given a quiz on the events of QoS you would fail miserably.

I am a big QoS fan but I am irked about Mathis's death as well. I think he'd have been a great part of the fiftieth anniversary if he would have been in Skyfall. I can't believe he was just killed off after a film and a half of presence. And CR was the first time we saw Mathis on screen and off the pages of the novels. I'd have loved to see more and I don't know why EON did such a thing like that. Another thing I noticed: QoS takes place just minutes from CR and yet Bond's hairstyle is completely different. It changed from the somewhat spiked hair of CR to the flat laid hair of QoS. Just found it odd, that's all.
With the exception that his character would have been useless from QOS forward. Look, I like Mathis just as much as the next guy, but the way he was portrayed in CR and QOS was so radically different from the books that his time had to be limited.
For instance, when we first saw him he was kind of like a mentor and an "older, wiser" agent who basically watched over Bond in his mission/save him from his mistakes. By the time QOS rolls around, he's already semi-retired and rarely goes out into the field. Again, we can't use him very well in other situations, and even if he was still alive it would be hard to fit him in Skyfall and the direction the franchise is moving toward.
I personally think it's enough that he carried himself along with Bond during Vesper's storyline, and Haggis, Pervis and Wade made a great, if not important decision to make his character as useful (and memorable) as possible.
I think there would be room for Mathis if he'd have lived, but it is all too late now. Hopefully when Bond is revamp somewhere down the line Mathis is included and made a French agent the same age as Bond who have a history of service together. The more like the books the better.

Dr No: Harry Saltzman.
FRWL: Richard Maibaum & Johanna Harwood (Writers). The movie have one of my favorte stroy's. It whasn't easy with doubt about them, Terence Young and Ken Adam.
GF: Shirley Bassey
Thunderball: Ken Adam. Whyle there be some flaws like the very bad boat chase who is film on blue screen, i think he set the base for some of other sets.
Yolt: Ken Adam. With exeption of the final set.
OHMSS: John Barry. In general there only 2 scores from him iam a big fan from. OHMSS is one of them. After the boring scores of GF, TB and Yolt this is very refreshing and helps the story go's also. It be a bit shame he return to the old style already for the next one.
DAF: Ken Adam. Not easy, i doubt about him and Guy Hamilton. For a part this be my GF.
LALD: Syd Cain (Production Designer, for LALD credit as Art directer superviser.)
TMWTGG: Guy Hamilton
TSWLM: Ken Adam.
MR: Ernest Day & John Glen (As Second united directer. Action is the best thing from the movie.)

TLD: John Barry. My favorite John Barry score.
GE: Derek Meddings (miniature effects supervisor. Kind of production designer of the Satelite. Also working on some other Bond movies. He past a way 2 months before the release of Goldeneye.)
TMND: Debbie McWilliams
Twine: Adrian Bidle. Cinematopgrapher of the movie. His legacy lived in what Phil Meheux did for CR. But i think Bidle be better, whyle Meheux best cinematopgraphy be Goldeneye.
DAD: Daniel Kleiman
CR: Daniel Kleiman
QOS: Dennis Gassner (Production Designer). The cinematography and Production Design are a very high point of the movie. I deside to give my points to the production designer because i think it is the way to go.
In general i whant give some credit to the location hunters in specialy for out of the box thinking for FRWL, DAF, TSWLM, Mr, FYEO, Octopussy, TLD and Twine.
Because in certain lists, they count as Bonds films too...
As far as NSNA is concerned, there's a fierce contest going on between Brandauer and Connery. Ultimately though, I love Connery's performance in NSNA. Despite his age and the extra pounds, I'm willing to lead a PR campaign for the NSNA Connery. Sean Connery it is then...

It was interesting to read your choices. Some of those lists really rock. Thanks for posting. Still trying to bridge the gap between QoS and SF, threads like these tend to amuse me but only with your input do they fulfill their destiny. ;;)
Once again, thank you and we'll be seeing each other again, very soon.
