It's something that occurs onscreen in every film but TND and TWINE—an action or event.
I originally, mistakenly, had Goldfinger 5 places higher than it should be. Of course, there’s a reason why.
It’s not something obscure or super specific.
The criteria category these films are ranked by is “length of time until,” meaning it’s something that happens toward the beginning of the film in SF and later on in the film in SP and accordingly so with everything in between (and of course something that doesn't happen at all in TND and TWINE).
A new clue: Usually this happens only once per film, except of course for TND and TWINE, and a handful wherein it happens multiple times (I believe 4-5 films). I'd have to double-check. For the purposes of this challenge, only the first occurrence in each film was relevant for the ranking.
Edit: To keep things moving, I'll post a new clue at the end of the weekend if no one has it by then.
Amount of time spent in an Aston
Time spent in a helicopter
Time until we see the first animal on screen

Check back next week
;)
Quite possibly. While it's not something as firmly entrenched in the formula as, say, the gunbarrel, it's something I'm sure we're all aware has been a regular and recurring part of the films, more likely as a natural development of the scripting process than for "box-checking" purposes. (I guess you can consider that part B to the clue "It's not something obscure or super specific." ;) )
That most definitely happens in TND and TWINE haha
I'm stoked for whoever gets this! New clue up tomorrow night; stay tuned.
Hmmmmm!
James Bond is indeed rendered unconscious in every film in the series except for Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough. Why not these two? Probably because the trope is not a part of the formula and just happens to be a convenient and oft relied upon device to move the story along.
The earliest he is knocked unconscious is when Moneypenny shoots him off the roof of a speeding train in Skyfall.
The latest he is knocked unconscious is when one of Blofeld's thugs conks him out pre-torture scene in Spectre.
Bond frequently loses consciousness due to blunt force, but he is also occasionally drugged via drink (Dr. No, The Living Daylights, Casino Royale), injection (Goldfinger, GoldenEye, Die Another Day), or gas (Diamonds Are Forever, The Spy Who Loved Me).
There are four films in which James Bond is rendered unconscious multiple times onscreen (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, GoldenEye, Casino Royale) and in Dr. No he is rendered unconscious a second time, only offscreen, by Dr. No's thugs at the dinner table.
The record for the most amount of times Bond is rendered unconscious in a single film is held by both Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever with three apiece.
Greatest to least length of time until James Bond is rendered unconscious:
1. Spectre
2. Casino Royale
3. From Russia With Love
4. Dr. No
5. Licence to Kill
6. The Living Daylights
7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
8. Live and Let Die
9. For Your Eyes Only
10. Quantum of Solace
11. Moonraker
12. GoldenEye
13. A View to a Kill
14. The Man with the Golden Gun
15. The Spy Who Loved Me
16. You Only Live Twice
17. Octopussy
18. Diamonds Are Forever
19. Die Another Day
20. Thunderball
21. Goldfinger
22. Skyfall
Not applicable: Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough
Here are many of the instances in which James Bond is rendered unconscious compiled in a youtube video humorously titled "James Bond Probably Has Brain Damage" (although in that first clip from Dr. No he isn't actually rendered unconscious):
James Bond himself has rendered others unconscious on a number of occasions, but that's another conversation entirely.
Over to you, @Birdleson. It's been a helluva game!
And many congratulations to SKOH on a magnificent round :)
