@Fire_and_Ice_Returns, I think that Lana Turner was just eighteen years old (or so) when she did RICH MAN, POOR GIRL (1958) – still the “Sweater Girl” from THEY WON'T FORGET (1937)! :D

That said, don’t sleep on Ruth Hussey. I loved her in THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, and her “Elizabeth Imbrie” is – in many respects - the most interesting character in that film.

    Good find @ToTheRight.

True, @Dwayne. Ruth Hussey was in a lot of great films. Wow. I haven't seen THE PHILADELPHIA STORY is about 25 years. I should revisit it soon. I remember taking a girl I was dating to see it on the big screen. I was in college and kind of introducing her to classic movies. Great memories.

    Saw it recently on T.V.
Years since I watched it, but agree, its a memorable film, and haunted is a perfect summing up of it!
I remember watching it on TV over forty years ago. In black and white on a TV I had in my student apartment down in Southwestern Germany, dubbed in German of course. Funny how those circumstances burn themselves into your mind if the movie is spectacular. I'll have to look into finding a modestly priced BD.

PS: The last movie I bought but have not yet watched was Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Though I attended a U.S. high school for a year a few years earlier and, frankly, was not really involved with the "crowd", I expect an overload of nostalgia from this. I'll report on the "watched" thread.

Update: "Picnic" is either not available as a Region B Blu-ray, or at worst at an atrocious price. I guess I'll have to pass on rewatching this for some time.

Picnic at Hanging Rock was an old girlfriend of mine's favourite film. At least she managed not to say 'Everything begins and ends at exactly the right time and place' when we broke up...

Reminds me of myself sending my girlfriend in the early 80s (upon breaking up) a quote from Mike Batt's The Wind of Change: "I know it may be a mistake we are making/But if we don't try/We'll never know". Didn't comfort her, but I still stand by the decision.

@ToTheRight: I also have a hunch that you will like it! :D

Given that 2023 marks Gloria Grahame's centennial, I'll probably going to do a deep dive into her filmography in the same manner. As for "Dr. Kildare", I only know it through the old Richard Chamberlain TV series from the 1960s. Occasionally, TCM will do a marathon of the 1930s films during the day - but I've never actually watched them.

I'm a fan of Gloria Grahame, too, @Dwayne. I still haven't seen Eon's film about her.
She's in quite a few of my favorite noirs. Oddly, I almost don't like THE BIG HEAT just because of her fate in that film. I've only watched it once. I love that both she and Lana are in THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. That's recently become one of my favorite movies.

Of course, I had to buy it, even if it's a bit of a mess. But I guess that it was unavoidable after the demise of Chadwick Boseman.

Just had a look round the charity shops and found these Bogart classics in mint condition, both DVD's...

    Double disk.

Edited: It's just occurred to me the canvas print I recently bought is very similar to the Casablanca DVD image of Bogart.

I was afraid that it would be a region A only, and thus unwatchable by me, but the DVD is all-regions.

I did not realize Lana Turner was in so many films, though admittedly I am probably only really familiar with her most famous roles.

Those are great covers for the Miss Marple movies, starring the unique and wonderful Margaret Rutherford! Always loved Ron Grainers hummable theme tune.
Can never watch the movies without thinking of my late Mum, who did minor housekeeping for a lady called Mrs Gallagher, who Mum always said was the spitting image of Rutherford!

The Rutherford films are gems, the two I bought were on offer the other two films from the series not on offer though I will likely buy them in HD also. I have quite a large collection of the Christie film adaptions, I watched them myself with my mother as a kid my mum had all the Christie novels.

So I just ordered this LANA TURNER movie............

    s-l1600.jpg

I feel it's a long shot that it will play, and considering it's coming from overseas.......I may have a bit of a wait.

Perhaps by the time it arrives in my mailbox we will have seen BOND 26?

Maybe this will hold me over?

Keeping my fingers crossed that your DVD arrives in short order and is playable (I think that was one of Lana Turner's final films at MGM).
