@fjdinardo, going off of that logic, we shouldn't have received a new MP, solely to honor the memory of the late Lois Maxwell.

With another five page discussion here, can these two be merged? We have enough Blofeld threads on the go as it is:

Why? Was their interpretation so outstanding that the character should not return? Were they immortalized in the role? I mean, seriously, is Charles Grey's performance so respectable as to be unequaled by anyone? Is Pleasence's? And even Savalas... He is better known as Kojak, surely.

Still I think we should repect the memorys weather they were memorable or not. Let the Character of Blofeld RIP and explore new characters

Respect their memory even if their performances were not necessarily memorable. Makes no sense to me. None at all.

Or no more M since the death of Bernard Lee.

Or no more Q because of the late Desmond Llewelyn. Then the Bond films will just have to cease when the unfortunate passing of one of the first Bond's happens. It just makes no sense at all.

Okay, but shall we continue in here then? This is by far the most popular one of these two. Also, this topic is being updated more frequently. So perhaps lock the other one?

And unlike Desmond's Q, the actors who played Blofeld, even those who played him well, were not so associated with the role as to make him their turf. I understand why a future Batman movie, wouldn't bring back the Joker right away. I mean Heath Ledger gave such a strong, memorable performance and it would be difficult to top. And he is now very closely associated to the role. But Blofeld has been associated with...? Savalas is Kojak, Pleasence is Dr Loomis and Charles Grey is, well, some other role. And even if he was remembered for Blofeld, it's not like his take or performance deserves such respect and deference that the role cannot be taken anymore.

  • I suggest closing the other. This topic was already made back in November 2011. What's the policy in this @Samuel001? The one that's newer, has fewer reactions and updates, will be closed no?

I'm suggesting actors that I think would be good. Did you watch the videos? Then maybe you'd have an idea of why I suggested him. Blofeld doesn't have to be Polish (he wasn't in the other films), and both my suggestions (Giancarlo Esporito and Christopher Eccleston) are older than Bond.

We need someone with the gravitas of Savalas. If not that,Cucumberbatch could make a great "unseen Blofeld" like in the original films. He has the proper menacing voice.
Liam Neeson could be a great Blofeld, but I do want him to appear during the next tenure.

The mods can do as they see fit, I was bringing it to the attention of others because I thought it's better to get all the Blofeld talk in one place. There's no policy.

There is not just the one thread mind, there are at least four which could be merged into one.

It's a lot of talk for a character we may never see again.

So that 'lot of talk for a character we may never see again' is one of the arguments to merge topics? IMO the 'problem' is solved if the other three are being closed no? Concerning the actual contents of the topics: Ernst Stavro Blofeld is a good discussion topic no? The amount of reactions speak for themselves....

No, merge the topics because they are about the same thing, that's the argument.

Though the comments in all these threads is the same kind of thing, going around in circles, so it doesn't matter to me if they aren't.

I understand....as of now yes. But shouldn't the topic that you were referring too not have been closed in the first place? I don't wanna argue hehe, but I've created numerous topics in the past that where almost instantly locked, because the mod found so many other similar topics that have been created earlier.

It should have been closed but it's likely this one was burried under everything else and not active at the time and with no one looking for it, nothing happens.

I have all my topics neatly organised under the button/tab 'MINE' on the homepage of this forum. By 'flagging' them with a star, they also appear in my other tab 'MY BOOKMARKS'. Just to organise the written material I have been responsible for :-).

I never loose track of what I've been writing. By doing so I keep myself from constantly creating new, useless, duplicate topics :-).

Yes I have seen the videos. Blofeld was Polish in the novels, of German and Greek descend. I would rather see something similar if they use him again. And a good actor is not necessarily good for a particular role. I'd love to see Paul Ben-Victor play a villain in a Bond movie. But Blofeld? I am not sure he would right for him (now for Jack Spang this is another matter entirely). Idris Elba for Gallia? Yes, I am all for it, he would be perfect for the role and if done close to the novel so different than the movie's Kananga nobody would even make the connection. But as Blofeld? No.

I can't see Idris Elba as Blofeld either (would've loved him to be Bond but that doesn't seem likely), but Esporito I think is perfect. Gus was everything I think Blofeld should be: intelligent, scheming (he was always one step ahead of Walt), very menacing and capable of getting his hands dirty despite having tons of henchmen.

Maybe not Blofeld but I'd love to see him as a Bond villain.

I cant see anyone as Blofeld because I dont think they are going to bring him back for Bond 24. Maybe Bond 25

Okay this is really our of left field. But how about reboot Blofeld as a woman?

In the Gardener novels Blofeld had a daughter. Why not adapt her?

    Nena Blofeld, head of Quantum.

1)That would mean paying copyrights to Gardner, if they go for Nena Blofeld. And we just got out of a copyright issue regarding Blofeld.

2)Rebooting a character up to switching gender is a bit much. Like a lot. You might as well make a completely different female villain.

True. It was just an idea. :) I was watching the Rebooted Battlestar Galactica and remembered that they gender swapped several main characters from the original series.

Keep up old son- its not that out of left field:

Dont worry I'm not going to sue you though because the idea has been around about as long as the code name theory and I cant claim authorship.

Nena Blofeld did strike me as a possibility but as Ludovico states that would result in royalties to IFM (which is the reason none of the Gardner stories has ever or is ever likely to be adapted) so its a non starter. And would she have to be 'Nena Blofeld - supercriminal' in her own right as in Craig's timeline ES Blofeld has never been heard of so having his daughter pop up would be meaningless.

If it happens then I think, given that SPECTRE is now at best an anachronism and at worst a joke, we are stuck with QUANTUM. This doesnt really bother me as long as they are beefed up a bit. The problem (which stems from QOS's troubled script) is that QUANTUM are currently just too 'meh'.

A classic Bond caper (about something more interesting than Bolivia's f*****g water supply) run by QUANTUM's number 2 is whats needed for Bond 24 and then in the final reel we cut to Blofeld (of whichever sex) and the cat.
Would really love Craig's final film to be an adaptation of Flemings YOLT or Gardner's NLF (or perhaps a mashup of both) with him ending Blofeld and QUANTUM for good but winding up with amnesia.

Not sure who would brainwash him to kill M now the Russians are gone but that would be a great cliffhanger (something no Bond film has ever done - well apart from Tracy and then it was forgotten) and a poignant farewell to Craig and a superb PTS for the new Bond to get his teeth into.

Should Blofeld show up I wouldn't be surprised if they cast Idris Elba.

Don't you think there is a pattern now @doubleoego? I mean, first of all Michael G. Wilson admits back in October 2012 that they own the rights for SPECTRE and Blofeld now.

Secondly, we read here that MGM had to work out a settlement with the McGlory heirs this year. Just to be absolutely certain that no future lawsuits will be initiated by the McGlory heirs that could threaten production of Bond 24 & 25.

I think this latter, extra reassurance could be an indication that screenplay writer John Logan is already using the names 'SPECTRE' and 'Blofeld' for his Bond 24 & 25 screenplays (Remember, Logan is also working on the Bond 25 screenplay).

    What do you think @doubleoego?

Tbh, I'm just content with waiting to see what happens. When it comes to Bond I've learned not to invest in any presumptions as, they can be way off base from expectations and/or result in gut wrenching disappointment. EoN can be unpredictable at times with their choice of direction so, let the chips fall where they may.

QUANTUM would be what the next script would make of it (unless the producers would tell too much nonsense before the release of the film, as they did for example with QOS). SPECTRE wasn´t any different, for better or worse. QUANTUM made a quantum leap from extorting Vesper to stealing a country´s water supplies, so it wouldn´t be illogic in the slightest if they would threaten the world the old school way next time.

May I ask the irrelevant question why so many people want old names back into a series that always dealt with modernism? To point out that M, Moneypenny, and Q also got re-instated is not valid, because they are Bond´s home base, they were there most of the time. Blofeld and SPECTRE weren´t.
    Just asking.

What's wrong with the water supply plot of QOS? Surely the movie has its flaws, but the scheme was both large scale and plausible. And nobody complained when a similar plot was used in Chinatown and Once Upon a Time in the West.
