Oberhauser could also be a pseudonym that Blofeld uses to lure in Bond.
Now I find that a smart remark ;-). Another realistic possibility indeed.
Of all the potential possible pseudonyms Blofeld could take in SPECTRE, this would be the best. And he was known to using fake identities in the novels too. And usurping ones. I could see him showing up to Bond: "My name is Oberhauser, I knew your father well. You knew mine. Let me be your mentor here, like my father once was." In the novels (again), many villains are distorted father figures, so it would work beautifully.
I could see that happening really. But, there's one small flaw in that story then. As Bond's father Andrew was a good friend of Hannes "Hans" Oberhauser, he must have known already about his son Franz. Moreover, this Hans Oberhauser could have been like Kincade: a father figure. So if he suddenly sees a different looking Franz Oberhauser, then that could be a mistake.
I think the cryptic message really includes a link to Hans' son Franz Oberhauser. And then, when in the film they meet for the first time, I could see Waltz introducing himself as follows: "I'm not Franz Mr Bond, I never knew your father. I don't give a damn about your family issues. But as we found your dead "Father-in-law" back there in Sölden, we thought it would be perfect to lure that stiff arse Brit up here. My name's Blofeld 007, Ernst Stavro Blofeld."
How Blofeld should look like? Please not bald. Christoph Waltz in reality already looks very much like a villain. Don't change too much. Perhaps a moustache would be great. Combined with a slightly larger-than-life use of suits. Like double breasted ones. Actually, Daniel Craig himself already gave a good portrayal :-O:
Posted this in 2011.. Kind of predicted SPECTRE ;)
Thought exactly the same thing @CASINOROYALE . Hence why a topic like this was necessary no ;-)?
In all honesty, I'm really happy SPECTRE and Blofeld are back where they belong: EON Productions. When "Cubby" and Barbara said, that they could do Bond without those Fleming-creations, I always thought they did it not in a convincing way. Flushing Blofeld through that big pipe in FYEO was more of "Cubby"'s middle finger to Kevin McGlory.
But since 2004 things have changed. EON Productions was really on war footing with the previous owners of "Casino Royale", "SPECTRE" and "Blofeld". Now they have ALL the rights. Goodbye Mr K. Feldman, goodbye Mr McGlory...both of you RIP......bet let's move on now and actually use these beautiful Fleming-creations. "Casino Royale" --> finished. "SPECTRE" --> in production :-).
Bond could have known of Franz without knowing him. Or he could have known him very little. Or simply lost contact a while ago. In any case, I could see how Blofeld could usurp his identity and fool Bond for a bit.
As for his appearance, I say go subtle, the way they did with Silva. Have an accumulation of small details that makes him look odd. Goatee maybe? Pointy beard that gives him a vaguely Satanic look. Go dark with the clothes.something like that.
In fact I have been thinking about that as well. If they manage to pull something like that, wow!
I find this very unlikely He's not even in the cast and said he was not going to play in Bond 24 in no ambiguous terms.
Mallory will be killed by Blofeld.
I'd love it if that were true. I think it's a bold move. Having Bond working for the "bad guy" without him noticing it? I'd love it.
after spending so much time establishing Mallory as rhe new M? That would a stupid move and out of character.
Well when your trying to save the suprise you really would'nt want to give the game away would you??. Before Skyfall you would not have thought that Dame Judi would killed off and Fiennes would become M. Its all part of the fun. But we will need to wait and see.
Someone like him would be good though. I've always wanted Jeremy Irons.
Absence of evidence is no evidence. He said he won't be. It is unlikely he will be. I pretty much knew Fiennes would become M when I heard the name of his character, and because Judi Dench was getting old for the job. That she was going to be replaced was likely to happen, in any case, and by a veteran actor. There were at least some clues. What evidence do we have for Mark Strong? Nothing but a denial from him.
Just remember one thing @Ludovico. The combo Anthony Dawson / Eric Pohlmann was uncredited, was kept secret for two Bond films ;-). Here a rare picture of Anthony Dawson as Blofeld:
And in case you wonder how Eric Pohlmann looked and sounded like:
So don't rule out a possibility like the above historical example. Perhaps the actor who will play Blofeld is being a closely guarded secret. Moreover, do not forget that Marvel movies have really copied the Bond-esque cliffhangers.
So I wouldn't be surprised that the 2nd final scene of SPECTRE will include a typical "Ooowh Jamesss"-scene, where Bond will be bedding Madeleine Swann. But then the final Bond scene is a cliffhanger in which the audience get to see the very first glimpse of Blofeld, an uncredited cameo, one hell of a cameo.
I like this idea very much. It's time Bond took it back from all these pretenders who've been copying him for ages. I'd love a SP cliffhanger with a seriously big name for Blofeld, thereby getting the audience's appetite whetted for B25. I'd also like B25 to follow in 2017, and not in 2018, but that's up to Mendes (and yes, I think he's back if Craig is back).
I know that very well. I also know how Pohlmann looks like, maybe one of the reasons why he never played Blofeld in the flesh. We might have for SPECTRE merely a silhouette for Blofeld, who remains in the shadow, or a glimpse of him, a bit like Moriarty in the first Holmes movie. Maybe Blofeld will be for Bond 25 and has not been cast yet. But it is pointless speculating on whatever scenario one's imagination can come with. Mark Strong said he was not going to be in Bond 24. John Travolta said he wanted to but he won't. Chiwetel Ejiofor was rumored, we know now he won't be. Bottom line is, the most likely candidate for Blofeld, according to rumors that have on other elements surrounding SPECTRE been proven right and to current casting, is Christoph Waltz. He has the right stature as an actor, the reputation, he has played chilling villains in the past but not to the point of being typecast. Furthermore, the little we know of his character fits the bill. I am sure Mark Strong is a nice guy, and a decent actor, but Christoph Waltz he is not.
Now do I have my own ideas of who should play Blofeld and how he sould look like? Of course I do. My ideal candidates would be Simon Russell Beale, amazing as King Lear in a production directed by Sam Mendes, or Mark Addy, who has the right frame for the Blofeld of the novels and has proven he can play tough guys in Game of Thrones. But there is no evidence they will play Blofeld in SPECTRE. None whatsoever. Now who is still the most likely candidate still to play Blofeld? Yep, it is Christoph Waltz again.
In Skyfall at the begining, Mallory was quite a "villanesque" character. He seemed to be all against M and the secret service. It was during Skyfall that we learnt that he thinks that rules, sometimes, don't have to be followed. I think it would be a nice twist to see him as Blofeld, explaining a main reason for him to build SPECTRE, maybe it's because of the shadows, maybe because of the Revenge part, but I'd love to see the reaction of Bond when he notices he has been used as a puppet, very much like he was to be used in From Russia With Love, but never quite was. I'd love to see his "oh fuck!" face.
What evidence? he was with Dan in Morroco both denied they were working just "hill walking". They now admit Dan was filming scenes on a train yet no other cast members where see or mentioned and a picture taken by a local ended up on twitter. An actor bound to a confidentiality agreement will of course denie all knowledge do you think he would just blow the story before the title is even released. As I said we will see but if I am right you need to change your username to wearingwifesthong for 12 months, if im wrong I will change mine, deal
?
Mallory was not pictured as villainesque at the beginning of SF' he was barely antagonistic. He was not hostile to M, he was only distrustful and skeptical about the way MI6 was run. And people in MI6 did not trust M. He has his own story arch in SF, where he reveals himself as a capable leader and also learns from his own mistakes. Turning him into Blofeld would make no sense at all. Not a modicum of one. Nothing, not even a hint of a bit of evidence indicates than he is anyone else than who he is, colonel Gareth Mallory, loyal British officer of Her Majesty.
Making him a foreign enemy of the UK (by the way, Blofeld is Polish) is the stuff of cheap soap opera.
Blofeld in the novel TB is a large ruffian, an evil genius looking like a fat thug. I would have been skeptical about Mark Addy doing such role until I saw him as Robert Baratheon. Both characters are very different, but they have some similarities: the physique and the ruthlessness. Addy can carry on that, easily. Can he play a convincing evil genius? That remains to be seen. And his face is maybe too soft, but nothing the proper makeup could not solve.
That is no evidence. They are friends and they met, that is all. Mark Strong gave very convincing explanations about it. In any case, the burden of proof is on your side.
We know too little for now, but so far and until/if new evidences show up, the most likely candidate is Christoph Waltz.
