Yes, @barryt007, but it's not at number 3 now, is it? ;)

I have it at 5, now I don't suppose that gets me any closer to 3 right?

It wouldn't impress me, no. This coming from someone who has QoS above #5 (I love Connery's early films too much), so aren't I a hypocrite?

no it just means your smart, i cant remember ur ranking could you repost your top 5 and least 5

@JamesBondKenya, I'm currently doing a Bondathon and reappraising all 24 films, but if I had to do a top and bottom 5 at the moment, it'd probably look something like this:

    1) Casino Royale
    2) From Russia with Love
    3) Thunderball
    4) Dr. No
    5) On Her Majesty's Secret Service

My bottom 5 would be a mix of Moore and Brosnan films, likely looking like:

    20) The World is Not Enough
    21) The Man with the Golden Gun
    22) Moonraker
    23) A View to a Kill
    24) Die Another Day

Infinitely better. GF barely makes it into the top 10, and on some days it doesn't at all.

Excellent top 5 Benny. We share 4 of them (I have LTK in place of DN!)
You're one of the few that doesn't have DAD in the bottom! I would certainly take TMWTGG, AVTAK and most certainly QOS over it!

    Too true @peter...
What are you guys going on about? The thread title said top and bottom in no particular order.
I like the Connery Bonds most and the Craig Bonds least .
Something's got to go top and something's got to go bottom.
    Big deal.
The thread title does refer to films not the actors

Poor Craig IMO just happens to be in the least best Bond films in the series. I am not a fan of the personal drama that permeates the later films, especially the last two efforts
But if it makes feel better Craig's performances I thought in both SP and QoS were quite adequate.
    Very good even.
But Sean remains on Bondian pedestal, as do all of the first 7 films - best group of films ever made in the history of cinema, I do dare say.
Aside from the other Bond films, Clint's best westerns would be the next best little bunch.
I actually like all the Bond films, mainly because they are Bond films.
All of them are quite watchable. I know this because I've watched them all at least 10x each. And 10x is rock bottom low end.
    Most I've watched 20 30 40 50x. Who knows, I stop counting at 10.

If I try to give the best and worst objectively it will differ from what I have at the top and bottom in my ranking.

So here is what I think are the 5 best Bond films *objectively: (my ranking in brackets)

    1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (my No 1)
    2. Goldfinger (my No 9)
    3. From Russia With Love (my No 11)
    4. Dr. No (my No 6)
    5. Thunderball (my No 15)

    ...and the worst:

    20. Skyfall (my No 24)
    21. Die Another Day (my No 20)
    22. The World Is Not Enough (my No 23)
    23. The Man With The Golden Gun (my No 21)
    24. Quantum Of Solace (my No 19)

*absolutely aware it is still only an opinion what I have to offer

I don't hate it or even dislike it. In fact, I quite enjoy it for what it is, but I believe there are far better films in the canon, which offer more of what I want in a Bond film.

Nor do I. It's a terrific Bond film, better than a large number of the films in the franchise. I could even make a case for it being Craig's best film.

@suavejmf, always nice to see another list besides mine that has Dr. No in the top five. As far as Bond scripts go, you will seldom find one better structured where every scene and dialogue has an importance in advancing plot. No fluff in that film!

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, I love Dr No. It's almost perfect in my book. DR NO set the standards, albeit with a limited budget, for the entire series. Action, pretty girls, one-liners, a brilliant Director and impossibly cashed-up enemies. "That's a Smith & Wesson, and you've had your six."

A stripped down film like that could only work with a lead actor that could carry it. Connery was essential to its success.

I agree entirely. The style, the mood, the wit, the sex, the danger, it all started right there in 1962. It's nothing but a springboard for Connery, giving him all these wonderfully quiet moments to play detective in his hotel, or in his efforts to outsmart all his company. The way he subtly played everything is a masterclass in screen acting, where the character of a man is built up not by what he says, but what he does. His chess game with Taro in her home is a perfect example of this; the way Bond tugs her hard by the towel on her neck when he knows she wants him dead, and how he muscles his way to her and forces her to leave the house so he can hand her to authorities and avoid another run-in with No's squad who she knows will be coming.

The casino introduction alone is one of the greatest moments in cinema period, the most iconic image in all of the Bond series. You can feel the ripples in history just watching it.

The first time I posted my fives, I leaned more toward my favorites. But we are talking "definitive" which may require more objectivity.

SC and DC are the best Bonds, and so their films make up the "definitive" best five (listed alphabetically):

    CR
    FRWL
    GF
    SF
    TB

The "definitive" bottom five (listed alphabetically):

    DAD
    FYEO
    MR
    TND
    TWINE

I'd probably be another, but I need to revisit the era before saying anything conclusive. It's always Moore battling Brosnan for the bottom spots for me, and because the Moore era has location shooting, Ken Adam, vintage flair and a distinct identity about them, those 7 don't fair too badly against Brosnan's 4.
