Hi- or should I say, tweet tweet! I've been meaning to make a contribution to this brilliant thread. I'd like to add some *further* references I didn't see mentioned on the list. Apologies if some have been - I checked through the many pages first.

Wow. Is it time for me to make an 'eagle eyes' joke? I think maybe it is.

Those items are golden, @QBranch, I especially like the mining of Doctor Bird, Griffin, two-headed Eagle, and the Birds of the West Indies cover Hummingbirds and Parrots.

I already planned to update some of the earlier items to be more complete and absorb @j_w_pepper's Rossignol skis and the Swan matches (I now possess some of those myself) from other board discussion. Delayed somewhat by the accidental launching of the It's Grεεκ To Me thread and that taking on a life of its own. Still my plan, to update and give credit for the ID. And I'd like to launch a proper Parrot entry, different from the Macaws.

Also want to give detail to Charles Mingus as introduced by @QBranch.
Quantum of Solace, Marc Forster, 2008.

The Charles Mingus CD seen in QOS (Fields' death scene) has a track titled "Gunslinging Bird".

    From the original album:

Gunslinging Birds, Mingus Big Band, 1995.

    Track 1: "Gunslinging Bird"

Charles Mingus on "Gunslinging Bird": “The subtitle was 'If Charlie Parker was a gunslinger, there’d be a whole lot of dead copycats.' I was just feeling crazy and thought that if Bird was a gunslinger instead of a musician in those early days, there’d have been a lot of guys getting killed.”

Track 2: "Reincarnation of a Lovebird"

No Bond connection, but worthy of note.

Mingus Ah Um, Charles Mingus, 1959.

    Track 6: "Bird Calls"

Charles Mingus on "Bird Calls": “It wasn’t supposed to sound like Charlie Parker. It was supposed to sound like birds– the first part.”

    Nazca Lines / ˈnäz·kə līnz / noun
    1. geometric line clearings in the Peruvian desert

Nazca Lines: geoglyphs found in the Nazca Desert, southern Peru. Created by removing surface material to reveal a light colored layer below. The resulting line figures number in the hundreds, and date to 500 B.C. Stable climate and lack of wind preserve the lines, while some recent weather revealed additional lines.

Speculation on their purpose includes marking important days (by alignment of the sun), religious intent, honorific reasons. (Proposals of intervention of ancient astronauts by Erich von Däniken are debunked today.) About 70 represent animal life including birds. Also geometric shapes, flora.

Here's an interesting tidbit: the bird tattoo on DC's shoulder is the Nazca bird, one of the enormous sand carvings in the Peruvian desert:
    Nazca%20Bird.JPG

Years after getting that tattoo, DC found himself filming QoS in the Chilean desert, just a few hundred miles south of where that bird is located.

    The tattoo.

Yes some sad history with the Condor Legion and Nazi Germany and its assistance to Spanish General Franco, as with the attack (literally a bombing practice on civilians in Guernica) represented by Pablo Picasso.

    Goldfinger_Hardback_3_medium.png?v=1519387349
    Goldfinger, Ian Fleming, 1959.
Chapter Twenty – Journey into Holocaust

Now it was a race - a race between Goldfinger's calm, unhurried, efficient machine and the tiny gunpowder trail Bond had lit. What was going on outside? During every hour of the next three days Bond's imagination followed what might be happening - Leiter telling his chief, the conference, the quick flight down to Washington, the FBI and Hoover, the Army, the President. Leiter insisting that Bond's conditions be adhered to, that no suspicious moves be made, no inquiries started, that no one moved an inch except according to some master plan that would operate on the day and get the whole gang into the bag so that not one of them escaped.

Would they accept Bond's conditions or would they not dare take the chance? Had they talked across the Atlantic with M? Had M insisted that Bond should be somehow pulled out? No, M would see the point. He would agree that Bond's life must be disregarded. That nothing must jeopardize the big clean-up. They would have to get the two 'Japanese', of course, somehow beat out of them the code message Gold-finger would be waiting for on D-1.

Was that how it was going, or was it all a shambles? Leiter away on another assignment. 'Who is this 007? What does it stand for? Some crazy loon. Hi, Smith, check on this, could you? Get down to the warehouse and take a look. Sorry, mister, no five grand for you. Here's car fare back to La Guardia. Afraid you've been hoaxed.'

Or, worse still, had none of these things happened? Was the plane still standing in a corner of the field, unserviced?
Night and day, the torment of thoughts went through Bond's head while the work got cleared and the hours ticked by and the deadly machine whirred quietly on. D-1 came and flashed by in a last fever of activity. Then, in the evening, came the note from Goldfinger.

First phase of operation successful. Entrain as planned at midnight. Bring copies of all maps, schedules, operation orders. G.

For Your Eyes Only, Ian Fleming, 1960.
    "For Your Eyes Only
    "

    ...
The arrow-tip gestured threateningly. "Stop that right hand or I'll put this through your shoulder. Are you one of the guards?"

    "No. Are you?"

"Don't be a fool. What are you doing here?" The tension in the voice had slackened, but it was still hard, suspicious. There was a trace of accent — what was it, Scots? Welsh?

It was time to get to level terms. There was something particularly deadly about the blue arrow-tip. Bond said easily: "Put away your bow and arrow, Robina. Then I'll tell you."

"You swear not to go for your gun?"
"All right. But for God's sake let's get out of the middle of this field." Without waiting, Bond rose on hands and knees and started to crawl again. Now he must get the initiative and hold it. Whoever this damned girl was, she would have to be disposed of quickly and discreetly before the shooting match began. God, as if there wasn't enough to think of already!

Bond reached the trunk of the tree. He got carefully to his feet and took a quick look through the blazing leaves. Most of the blinds had gone up. Two slow-moving coloured maids were laying a large breakfast table on the patio. He had been right. The field of vision over the tops of the trees that now fell sharply to the lake was perfect. Bond unslung his rifle and knapsack and sat down with his back against the trunk of the tree. The girl came out of the edge of the grass and stood up under the maple. She kept her distance. The arrow was still held in the bow but the bow was unpulled. They looked warily at each other.

The girl looked like a beautiful unkempt dryad in ragged shirt and trousers. The shirt and trousers were olive green, crumpled and splashed with mud and stains and torn in places, and she had bound her pale blonde hair with golden-rod to conceal its brightness for her crawl through the meadow. The beauty of her face was wild and rather animal, with a wide sensuous mouth, high cheekbones and silvery grey, disdainful eyes. There was the blood of scratches on her forearms and down one cheek, and a bruise had puffed and slightly blackened the same cheekbone. The metal feathers of a quiver full of arrows showed above her left shoulder. Apart from the bow, she carried nothing but a hunting knife at her belt and, at her other hip, a small brown canvas bag that presumably carried her food. She looked like a beautiful, dangerous customer who knew wild country and forests and was not afraid of them. She would walk alone through life and have little use for civilisation.

Bond thought she was wonderful. He smiled at her. He said softly, reassuringly: "I suppose you're Robina Hood. My name's James Bond." He reached for his flask and unscrewed the top and held it out. "Sit down and have a drink of this — firewater and coffee. And I've got some biltong. Or do you live on dew and berries?"

When former Bond Girl and Playboy Playmate Robbin Young took to Twitter to engage with Guccifer 2.0, she believed she was speaking to a Romanian man, but now the United States government announced that she was actually conversing with a team of 12 Russian hackers. Young, who posed for Playboy International a dozen times and was featured in Roger Moore’s final outing as James Bond in 1981’s For Your Eyes Only, first contacted Guccifer 2.0 in August 2016 during the run-up to the presidential election and after the account posted Democratic National Committee (DNC) e-mails obtained via hacking. What began as a simple political discussion quickly escalated into tawdry Twitter sex and what she believed to be a true international love affair.

After the United States government issued indictments against 12 Russian spies it claimed operated the Guccifer 2.0 account (which has since been suspended by Twitter), Young was left confused and in a state of disbelief. She recently spoke with The Sun, a British tabloid, where she provided some revealing quotes about the bizarre encounter.

    SPY WHO SEXTED ME

had steamy online affair with ‘Russian spy’ Guccifer 2.0
accused of meddling with US election

“If this is all true it’s like I’ve had Twitter sex with 12 Russian hackers,” she said.

The 63-year-old Las Vegas resident revealed she engaged in Twitter sex with the Russian spies in the form of dirty messages, nude photos, and even erotic poetry, all the while believing it was a Romanian man with whom she had fallen in love. The spies operating the Guccifer 2.0 played along, describing her as the “ideal woman” and engaging in flirtation, compliments, and sexual dialogue.

“When Guccifer began messaging me it didn’t take me long to fall for him,” Young told The Sun. “It seems crazy that I could fall in love with someone online so quickly but I felt we had a powerful connection.”

Their conversations lasted under a month, yet it seems the Russian spies operating the Twitter account hacked her heart as easily as they hacked the DNC e-mail servers.

Young’s interactions with the Guccifer 2.0 account came to the attention of the FBI as early as 2017 and she was interviewed for four hours. However, despite the breaking news of the indictments of those responsible for operating the account, she is not entirely convinced her e-affair was fake. She still believes she had a real connection with one individual and speculates that Guccifer 2.0 stopped contacting her either to protect her or because “he” believed her Twitter account had been compromised.

“If I were to say anything to him it would be, ‘No matter where you are in the world, no matter who you are, I want you to be safe and you will always have my heart,'” she told The Sun. “I know I will probably never hear from him again but I will never forget him.”

A lovely aircraft I've seen the tail of many times when the gliding club I used to be a member of used it as towplane. A very distinctive (and beautiful) sight.

Also, Curtiss used to build Robin's:

    What a treat, @Agent_99!

Wing Commander and aviator Mr. Ken Wallis' important contribution to Bond history.

And I want to add "Little Nellie" was named for Nellie Wallace, singer-songwriter, dancer and comedienne.

So named for a bird, you could say.
