Frankly, given Mendes is clearly a real fan of Bond (listen to him put the questioner right in the press conference about Martin Campbell and John Glen's involvement in the filming of their films' action sequences), I wouldn't be surprised if he subtely put one or two in either...
@shadowonthesun - you're spot on, there. Something I thought about briefly at some point. Surely, making the smartest, classiest Bond film they can would be more of a genuine tip of the hat to Fleming than any 'homage' could ever be.
Then the JB theme gives way to "nobody dose it better" with stills from all the films, faded gold over the credits.
Goldfinger homage in QofS and the head to toe oil thing with Ms.Fields (why they didn't rewrite her part to make her the new Moneypenny I will never understand).
DC's b/card for Universal Exports had a RM's undercover character name from AVTK; I think.
There might be more but they do it anyway. So I suggest we will expect more little references.
After Bond shoots, when the gunbarrel moves to the bottom corner of the screen I'd like to see the white dots get smaller and disappear (like in FRWL & GF) as opposed to the standard circle opening up into the PTS. A nice little nod to the past.
All I'd expect is a marked improvement on Solace, and a release that when departing theaters would make you think 'I must see that again', which I did with Casino Royale
I didn't (really) like the bit in Die Another Day when Brosnan was with Cleese and they showed a majority of Bond apparatus from previous Bond pictures, and Berry coming out of the sea in a Honey Ryder tribute?
The less said the better, although they will never better the 1962 original and shouldn't have tried
I don't even consider DAD a Bond movie. I just prefer to leave it alone.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale are my favourites. Just in case you were wondering.
Horrible ending with Brosnan picking diamonds out of Ms Berrys navel though
