Two novellas/novelettes, out the end of August from Canadian publisher April Moon Books. Cover by Mark Maddox, interior art from M. Wayne Miller.

In Mindbreaker (written by your own good Dr.No AKA Ed Erdelac), British agent James Bond finds himself seconded to a classified subsection of MI6, assigned to track down a pair of missing field agents and stop a sinister occult organization from using the blood of a kidnapped royal to activate an ancient weapon of mass destruction.

William Meikle's Into The Green places Bond on a British submarine and involves a mysterious Alaskan research station.

Oh boy, that takes me back ! Way back, during the 80s, I was an avid roleplayer, and gamemastered quite a few games of the James Bond 007 RPG. And one day, I decided to do a crossover between it and the Call of Cthulhu. In short, two teams, one from modern times (the JB 007 one) and one from the 1920s (the COC one) were sent on separate missions in seaprate times, and met in a secret temple where a double human sacrifice was to take place. The players liked it.

This is very interesting. I'm a Lovecraft fan and a James Bond fan so I definitely want to read those stories. Thank you for the post, @DrNo.
  • This does sound like an interesting concept. I wonder if the Lovecraftian aspects will turn out to be drug-induced. Could be an interesting angle without taking things completely sci-fi/fantasy. I'm interested in hearing how these turn out. I don't think the previous collection of Canadian James Bond short stories was very well reviewed, was it?

No it wasn't. They took a 'deconstructionist' angle. Seemed like a Bond anthology for people who....hate Bond?

Me too. It doesn't get you anywhere sadly.
  • Really liked the preview @DrNo and I've always liked the idea of an all out supernatural focused Bond story. Not sure if so many references to the other books were needed but it was still very good. I really liked him using Bond's own family motto against him at the end, that was very clever.

This sounds interesting. As I'm sure you're aware of the legalities of selling this book outside Canada in areas where the copyright still stands, how do you intend to get round it?

I'm not sure how April Moon is handling that, stag. It'd be a question for them. Think they have a contact page on their site if you're in the US and interested in a copy.
