I respect that. I just don't agree that the examples shown on the right, look "dull and lifeless" compared to the originals on the left. Guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder:

    vGlIevq.jpg

Oh my, the pics on the right look terrible - completely messed up the d65 grayscale.

The ones on the right are MAGNIFICENT.....They should bring out bluray SE. :)

    Really?!

The ones on the left look shit. They are not intended for use in a Bond film.

Bond films should be Colourful and Clear.

Fcuk the d65 grayscale or whatever it's called.................. :)

Those examples aren't realistic colours. You need to balance the purple.

Yeah notice how unnatural the sky in the bottom image is - ghastly.

Here's a fixed grade, taken from the white, grey, and black samples of the image (so no eyeballing it). Take a look @001.

Why should? I didn't adjust the colors for someone else to say "this is the correct color- or greyscale". I corrected them to my own liking. To look as good as possible on my projector. And my own liking is not like the fixed grade posted above. Sorry, but I like your sample almost as less as the orginal. For me - it looks lifeless.

Don't blame me, that is the original shot.

So basically this whole thread is for your own personal colour grading then?

No. Just being friendly to other forummembers ;-)

I hope for Bond 25 that bright colours return. SF was pretty dark in colour as is SP. SP also has this yellow glow on a lot of scenes. Just imagine how much colour the Mexico scenes could have brought to the screen.

Thank God for the Lumetri panel in Adobe Premiere ;-)

    Let's see it!

Just uploaded. They went overboard with the colorgrading. Example from my own version and personal preference (comments appreciated):

It looks excellent, I love it! Also, I would love to see the whole scene colorcorrected without cutting back and forth betweeen the two version. Do you have that? If so, can you please upload it when you have time?

Sure, I can do that. I can also include other examples from both SF and SP. The only two Bond movies I felt like colorcorrecting.

@Zekidk thank you for posting these! As I said in the other thread, and proven here, especially Mexico improves and the helicopter stunts don't look CGI anymore, but real. I'm surprised with how much Marokko improves as well. The whole atmosphere makes it different, the whole base of Blofeld more benign bizarre, far more Bondian.

    Explain like I'm 5 please: d65 grayscale

"D65 represents the location where there is no colour component at all: It's purely black, white or a shade of grey in-between"

"Movies are created and meant to be displayed at D65 color temperature, so if your TV is calibrated properly to D65, you are that much closer to seeing what the content creators intended. "

With the train scene of Skyfall and Airplane fly next to cars fron Spectre i like the sugestion.
Mabey also sugestion of stairs walking in Marocco, but with desert i disagree.

Scene i mist in your sugestion is shangai. Then i mean elevator scene already start when Bond sitting in his car waiting outside of bulding. Macau outside of the Casino. Don't think inside of the casino need inprovement.

Overall Skyfall needs the moost inprovenent because it is digital filmt. Thats the biggest problem, besides that i dislike some scenes . But with the sugestions you did exept the train scene i prefer the original.

What's digital film? My understanding is that digital cameras don't use film - hence they are digital!

You'll have to excuse Balje's broken English. He does his best but in this case I think the implications of what he was saying was rather obvious.

Bond films should be like the director wants them to be. I think we're focussing way too much on technical details here and let that prevail (or cloud) our criticism about more important things like...story and plot. Ask yourself if FRWL or OHMSS would really have been much worse if they used Hoyte van Hoytema's or Roger Deakins' color filters. This discussion starts to become a bit sad really, and because of it we're only fuelling our boundless and in many ways unfounded negativity of our criticism of the overall final product.

Well, I do think we should be allowed to have an opinion on the matter and discuss about it. This discussion is not silly at all IMO. I think calling it silly is a little silly to be honest.

Yes, maybe all post should go through a review proces so that bad 'erroneous' opinions can get filtered out.

I think it's better to leave it there

Yes, you were correct. You already tried to make your point once: that "Bond films should be like the director wants them to be." No tampering, no creativity allowed for fans, etc... Well, this is the fans creations section, so I actually understand if you might feel:
    a bit sad

Off course you should have an opinion. Just like me @Jeffrey :-). I don't think I'm particularly harsh in my comment. It's just what I think. By the way, I never used the word 'silly'. Still, I do think older Bond films never had to endure such dissections way back then. Are we really discussing the bad aspects of cinematography and editing skills for the 1960's Bond films? I don't think so, because they had the advantage to be glorified over the course of 5 decades. Even the bad/less good ones, like YOLT.
