Motion Smoothing

What does everyone think about motion smoothing? I have to agree with the Duffer Brothers and, now, others.

Maybe they could have done with this in QoS though? ;)

They use a clip from Skyfall as an example.

Any issues people had with the editing was just that - edits and cuts. I don't believe motion smoothing had anything to do with it.

I can't stand this effect - it looks so wrong when watching any type of movie, which is almost exclusively what I use my entertainment center for. Far too distracting.

I'm not super familiar with this, but I believe the end effect of motion smoothing is the footage taking on a sort of 3D feeling when played?

My friend has a TV that implements such an effect and the result is jarring when you first see it, as the actors feel like they're right in front of you, but inside the screen at the same time. I'm someone who likes a "flat" image to films and TV, to feel sort of removed from the actors in a way, so the more 3D feeling smoothing really threw me for a loop. At times it can be distracting, and if I had a choice, I'd choose the more traditional presentation.
