Yes, it's a great cover and there are even two versions of the music video, one for the UK market and one for the US market.
I actually prefer the original version by James Ray now as it has a charm all of its own but as someone on YouTube said it's like comparing apples and oranges. It also has added verses and orchestration and obviously given a more soulful rendition by Ray, who sadly died tragically young.
In fact, I only really found out George Harrison's song was a cover I think just last year. I wouldn't say that it's a widely known fact that it's a cover version. However, that can often be the case with more successful cover versions, especially if the song being covered is from decades past as in this example.
