The shape looks pretty good from the side, other than the roof.

Saw it on sale two weeks ago at the Lego Store in Paris. Didn't buy it, because I wouldn't know where to put it once I've built it.

I visited the Lego Store at Bluewater this evening and they had one of these in a display case, so I asked a member of staff if I could see all the tricks. He went full Q on me and I don't know which of us was more childishly excited about everything. (There was no need for him to demonstrate the ejector seat 3 times but who was I to spoil his fun?)

This is really random, and I'm not entirely sure where this belongs but the Lego Movie franchise is now with Universal. Given that NTTD is being distributed by Universal, is it possible that we could see a Lego James Bond movie? Unlikely but at least it's a chance. https://collider.com/lego-movies-universal-deal/

We could possibly see a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Lego set:

LEGO Ideas is a program where LEGO fans can design their own sets and put them up to a vote, and if they get 10,000 votes LEGO considers putting that set into it's official lineup of sets that you can buy. There are several sets under review right now, and one of them is the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car. Results are announced Fall 2020, and if the set passes the review, you'll be able to find it on the shelves at some point.

Is this very old news? Looks like they were planning a 007 Lego game back in the mid-2000s, but the release of Casino Royale and change of tone for Bond gave the Lego bosses cold feet.

Here's a glimpse of a Lego Bond character test

I think a Lego Bond game could work. They’ve done an excellent job in dealing with the darker aspects of both Star Wars and Indiana Jones. The question is how would it work. Would they just do a singular game with an original storyline, or multiple games covering each era of Bond? Either way, seeing as how Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, and Lego Batman received all my attention as a kid, I’d sure as hell play a Lego Bond video game as an adult.

I expect they'd have covered a few movies at a time, as that's how they usually work isn't it? Maybe they'd have just done the films of one Bond actor for a game though, as there's lots to get through! Or maybe one from each Bond in one game.
  • Lego Batman was a completely original storyline, taking bits of influence from each film/comic. I’ve only played the first one, but I’m pretty sure the sequels are that way too. Lego Bond could go in that direction, but it’d be a bit disappointing to not have them cover the films in that regard. One of the best aspects about Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga was that it’s probably the only opportunity to play through each Star Wars film in a singular game. I’d like something similar for Bond. It’d take multiple games however, whereas Complete Saga was a compilation of the first two Lego Star Wars games. They could do the Connery/Lazenby era for the first, the Moore era for the second, the Dalton/Brosnan era for the third, and Craig’s for the fourth. If this had EON’s approval at one time, and if Lego was testing the ground for a potential Bond license, then I could see them collaborating for a series of games in the future.

Yes I think you're right, per actor seems the likeliest. But equally I guess they may not have been anticipating sequels so might have gone for a 'best of' selection from all of the films for the first game.

I think if EON and Lego had agreed back then it does seem likely it might happen at some point; I think the whole gritty reboot thing which he says put Lego off at the time has cooled down a bit now.

As a LEGO fan, I know a bit more of what happened after that test footage, which must've been around 2005-2006. So, some of the LEGO game developers were really hoping to do something with Bond, as they liked the property. We fast forward a few years, and the LEGO management themselves seemed to be more okay with having sets based on grittier PG-13 properties, as LEGO Lord of the Rings sets become a reality in 2012, with a game released alongside it. This continues the following years, and culminates in 2015 with an ambitious cross-over game with many IP's and actual LEGO figure packs you have to buy, called LEGO Dimensions. The IP's include a bunch of properties like Back to the Future, the Simpsons, LotR, Batman/DC and the Wizard of Oz. To get that last property, LEGO had to deal with WB (who were already involved in the making of various LEGO things like the LEGO Movie) and MGM. That's where the rumour mill starts.
Some LEGO fans were convinced that if LEGO could strike a deal with MGM about the Wizard of Oz, they could get Bond just as easily. (LEGO fans aren't always aware of EON as a player in this). And what began as wish listing for a 'second year' of content, became a persistent rumour that negotiations to get Bond in the game were happening. A since-defunct LEGO YouTube channel called TheBrickShow, who were known to have reliable insider information, reported that Bond was coming to Dimensions. Dimensions also had a Doctor Who pack that let you play as every Doctor up until 12, which was the most recent one at the time and the minifigure that was in the pack. The Bond expansion pack would have Connery in his GF white tux, and he would have the DB5 as his accessory (every figure had a buildable accessory that accompanied them). But like Doctor Who, getting the Bond figure meant that you could also play as all other official Bonds.
Then, Year 2 happened. And though many guessed right on some things (the return of Harry Potter in LEGO), Bond was nowhere to be seen. People dismissed the rumour.
After sales went pretty badly (Disney Infinity, their competitor and the other 'bring physical toys to life' game stopped, the price for the base game was deemed too expensive, the new IPs too boring), LEGO Dimensions announced they were not continuing the game, and the planned Year 3 was scrapped. No one knew which IPs were planned.
After a year or so, rumours began to arise and anonymous developers on the game started to talk. Now, there was no way of actually checking if these rumours were correct, but enough people with a certain reputation said the same thing, so the following is widely accepted as the truth (again, I don't know if it actually is):
A James Bond expansion for Year 2 was indeed planned but in very early stages, but negotiations (with MGM and/or EON) fell through. The developers then turned to Mission: Impossible as their spy alternative for Year 2, which did release as planned. They had already made a couple of test animations. Halfway through that process, the team finds there's so much material for Bond that they feel it's best suited for a full game. They make a trailer as a pitch to their bosses (expanding on the clips they had), but nothing comes from it. The rumour is that the LEGO bosses shot it down as they found Bond too inappropriate, and the footage never left the LEGO offices to pitch to MGM/EON. Everyone in the LEGO fan community thinks LEGO James Bond is over, and it won't happen.
Lo and behold, in 2018 LEGO releases a 007 branded DB5 model in their Creator Expert line, without any minifigure included, in a bigger scale than their play sets, branded 16+. This proves that someone at LEGO wasn't letting this James Bond thing go, and this is the result of it. In a post by MI6-HQ, they say that this was a compromise because it was EON who had ethical problems with tiny guns, whereas the LEGO fan community was convinced it was LEGO who didn't want to do it, as they have a strict no-weapons rule (only in historical fantasy contexts, LEGO sets have guns and swords). Who it was, we might never know. It might've been both.

And who knows, maybe we might get more LEGO Bond things. Whether that's different cars in the bigger scale, playsets or a game, remains to be seen. But just know that the story between LEGO and Bond is a long one...

Dam it I would of loved a Lego bond game though maybe would of loved it more in 2017 as to bridge the gap between Activision and IO interactive
