Have you seen the trailer?
Eon, take note, some movies with women in lead roles may flop. Like, Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel—oh wait...
Only leftists see those films it's there main demographic.
You're an absolute bore.
@jake24 @Benny @Birdleson here we go again more name calling
I think you mean bellend.
Careful, your true colors are showing.
@RC7 really? What people do we have on here my God.
@Burgess now you guys are just being bullies. There is a reason I don't even want to be associated with the fans and here is one reason why.
Joker showed that there is a path to 1 billion without China. While not insignificant, China’s contribution to Skyfall and Spectre are no where near that of, say, the last Fast and the Furious films. F9 and Black Widow will take a huge hit if the Chinese market doesn’t open back up in time.
I'm too polite for my own good sometimes.
Having seen the film, I can confirm that such a notion is blatantly false.
I think you may be right. What was the box office take for SP in China, just out of curiosity? Anyone know?
$84m Chinese gross versus an international gross of $680m.
I suppose that is certainly not a figure to turn your nose up at. Interesting.
It just sounds like those aligning themselves as the anti-woke/anti-SJW crowd is looking for ANYTHING to somehow confirm their own bias, that they want to make a case that audiences universally reject female driven action films, never mind that there were films like WONDER WOMAN, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, and especially CAPTAIN MARVEL that were genuine hits.
Until these folks spoke, it never occurred to me that BIRD OF PREY would even be considered woke or SJW. But seeing that the villain is a male, and that the protagonists are all female, I guess that's just "too much" for them.
Unless it features a childhood hero like Ripley, I guess any female driven action film is under suspicion of carrying an agenda. Whatever. 8-|
+1
Though in hindsight, Birds of Prey was misjudged. It’s an all-female superhero film with an R-rating. It really should have been PG-13. The truth is teenage girls were this film’s audience and it alienated them. I imagine older girls would find Harley Quinn’s shtick irritating.
You can’t make a niche comic-book movie for one particular audience and then neglect that audience. I suppose they were hoping for a Deadpool situation. Though I hear the film isn’t as funny as Deadpool.
I thought the ‘Margot Robbie’ factor would have swung it for the film. But it’s not the ‘blockbuster’ success many thought it would be. But the good reviews would suggest it’ll have legs and there is little playing over the next month to steal its thunder. I didn’t go out on opening weekend to see it, and plan to watch it sometime this week Perhaps more were thinking like me…plus, Margot Robbie
I think the whole ‘woke/broke’ narrative is a little dumb. I never saw Birds of Prey as a woke film – it’s a comic-book film. It’s no more woke than Black Panther, Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel. All of which were successful. It’s v easy to cherry-pick examples to feed your own argument (look I just did it).
NTTD has the ‘hype’ on its side and the teasers and TV spots are only just generating attention. It’s the 5th film with Daniel Craig and his finale – it has Aston Martins, exotic locations, ladies action and the (oh so hot right now) Rami Malek, Ana De Armas and Billie Eilish involved. It smells like a hit. So time will tell if it has the legs at the box office.
$88 million opening ($70 mill to $100 mill range) ; $269 million domestic total ($200 mill to $290 mill range).

And finally a certain Aiden Turner fan will stop with the doomsday box-office predictions. ;-)
The current prediction is a long range estimate so, hopefully, things will only go up as the release draws near.
I couldn’t care less. Bond has always been an international movie that the Americans dip and out of when they fancy it. I’ll be judging it by its resonance here in the UK and Europe as to its success.
No kidding. Bond was only really massive in the US during the 60s, whereas after that they were still relative hits but not the behemoths they were internationally.
In the US, a movie like THUNDERBALL was as big a hit as the first AVENGERS film, whereas CASINO ROYALE was more on par with the success of ANT-MAN.
