I'd love it.
Yep. Horrific.
Not saying I want this, or think it's a good idea. Just a 'what if' scenario
They might do something unconventional for the ending but i believe it will be a satisfying happy end, something that Craig desperately needs after 5 films. He's not gonna die.
agree most fans would be outraged.
EON presents Lashana Lynch as Nomi agent 007 B-)
No more of this James Bond nonsense. After all, he's just a fictional character written by a money hungry racist misogynist with imperialistic nostalgia. Let the moniker be given to someone else entirely. Modern times demand it. A nail in the system's head. Ian Fleming who? All hail the sanitised future. The past is dirty, History must be flogged and censured, the future is caos, clean, empty, meaningless, caos.
James Bond is dead \m/
...
Seriously now. We're all fans of the same thing here. Right? I mean, are we? 8-|
everyone seemed to be in favor of the idea now thank God people are coming back to earth I hope.
Yes, apparently we all want things to change completely in the Bond films. That's what we fans crave for when putting on a James Bond film DVD 8-|
You're right, @Jordo007, it is intriguing, and worrisome. For me, at least.
First of all it's just classic clickbait... if you have 30 seconds to promote your film to millions of people, you want to have something that will make them go "wtf does that mean? i want to know more." And judging from the reactions online, it did it's job...
Personally i think the film will just reveal more backstory, and might "change" the way we look at certain things in the Craig era. More personal connections etc.
Pure speculation on my part but anyway:
@Jordo007 I think "change everything" is referring to the narrative and the arc of the Craig-era. I think this film will truly define the era (narratively) as whole, which makes sense considering Fukunaga's desire to carry on from what Casino Royale started, but I'm thinking (and sincerely hoping) it'll do a better job with that than Spectre did.
No, of course not @Benny
Just my two cents.
This is it, exactly. She can still be a great character and a worthy companion to Bond while still being a secondary character that is only here for one entry.
Instead of a real death of Bond I see a very emotional ending with some kind of "sacrifice" near the end, with Nomi and Swann - outside at the shore - believing he's gone, in the tone of Nolan's TDKR. Something with that very special/emotive Zimmer crescendo and a montage of moments of all the major characters leading to Bond going finally away from everyone (or just with Swann), maybe walking alone in the forests near Safin's lair at the island. It would be poetic if his final sacrifice is really giving up even Swann, in order to end all the harm everyone would still get around him. A hero that faced all his demons and saved the world after Safin's plan, paving the path for the new generation, now free.
EDIT: More emotionally striking giving the fact that with a lot of struggle and twists he recovers confidence in Swann and realize he really loves her. That would tie with the "epic love story" Barbara was talking about.
Right after the words "James Bond will return" appear on screen we see Craig looking into the camera, saying "It's not gonna be me though" and proceeding to slash his wrists.
I also think it's notable that these words appear on top of the 007 logo specifically.
Barbara Brocolli knows better, fortunately! James Bond 007 will return, just not with Dan Craig in the tux.
Idk if that's true but....I can see them going full circle like I mentioned before, the ending to be related with the start of DN
I really hope they don't go for "the codename" theory..
Oooooooooor
I think we are just overanalyzing this cause it's a marketing ploy
IMO this won't be anything surprising as we think
Nomi hasn't been announced as a 007 officially, so I think that line might relate to that
They can get away with "changing everything" about the Craig-era because it's still relevant to audiences and fans alike, whereas honestly it's a bit of a stretch to find someone whose seen every James Bond film like we have or even most of them to be honest, well for me it is anyway...
To me, it's still a reboot and they're gonna make this the "era of the arc" as I think this will just tie up everything together. I think subconsciously I always see the change of an actor as a reboot anyway, even with the connections throughout, especially considering the different each tone and style Bond actor has had.
Remember Cary said when he first started that he would follow Casino Royale's arc. I think that just speaks volumes to what they're trying to achieve with this, and I don't think that's gonna involve completely retconning the reboot.
I expect that's not what EON are about here.
I don't think EON wants backlash to end the Craig era.
Again I believe all these "changes" will be within the film's narrative not the structure of the franchise.
I'd compare it to trying to attach the 80s/90s Batman films to Nolan's trilogy.
...but even if it made sense to people, to move on and probably reboot it again? It just seems pointless and not something I think Barbara and Michael would have in mind seeing as this whole reboot has been somewhat of a child of theirs for the last 14 or so years. In the same way they don't want to revisit the old films in remakes or heavy retellings, I think that'll apply to this suggested shifted timeline.
I don't think Connery would like it either haha :D
Plus would it be the right thing to do, especially considering Roger Moore; would certain fans see it as retconning their favourite Bonds? We don't want another media firestorm. They'd have a field day with this
I'm probably slightly byast as I'm a sucker for clean/neat timelines.
Sorry to the moderators by the way, probably not the right page to be discussing this.
A reboot doesn't mean they have to do an origin story again though - just that it's gonna be a new cast and narratively disconnected from any of the preceding films.
