would you think Dench, an actress of her caliber would've signed on for as long as she did to play M before Goldeneye's release?... i mean, who really knows lol..
Listen Graves, seeing as how I am quoted in your comment, and I know why - and as it seems that you've already gotten on your high horse, let me just say..... my comment was merely an IDEA - not based around a rumor, or "slip of the tounge" or reading too much into an off the cuff comment, or anything else other than what I personally would like to see... I'm glad that you personally make your distinctions based on what you do.... but all i was saying is that the man gets so many villain roles, that it would be fun to see all the rumors turned over on their heads, and him actually playing a good guy.. preferably as the new M
call me weird - but i like to think outside of the box sometimes
Like 'M', the role of assistant commissioner Ronie Vallance is another secondary character. To be honest, if Ralph Fiennes would have read his role for the first time, his name being 'assistant commissioner, he would never agreed to be in 'Skyfall' in the first place. Nah, his role needs to be big, bigger, biggest. Otherwise EON would have problems contracting such a big name. Same goes for Javier Bardem by the way. 'Assistant commissioner' would be too small for him too.
Nah, I think both Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes will be the two leading figures in a very big plot....a very big villains plot. I can't see them as adversaries/friends/partners of Mr Bond himself.
Ronie Vallance is more a role for a guy like Ben Whishaw.....
Call me weird - but I like to stick to certain ideas. Why? Because I like to think what perhaps Michael G. Wilson and Babs Brocolli were thinking when they were coming up with a new Bond film. I try to dig into the minds of Purvis, Wade and Logan....and what they actually would like to do. Because for me it's thrilling to come up with ideas that have the best chance to be put on the screen eventually.
And, I think.......bringing back Blofeld is pretty much out of the box thinking ;-). Many fans in here basically hate the idea. But I think it's the best way of creating a real, psychotic, memorable villain. One that has the potential to get noticed by the Academy of Motion Pictures. Bond used to have its own 'Joker'.....in the 1960's. For God sake, bring such a villain BACK again.
By the way, read my quote above as well. I just can't see Ralph Fiennes playing Bond's partner. The idea is lovely for us fans. Especially the Bond fans that love the novels. But I think it won't happen. Ralph Fiennes needs to get a huge role. Otherwise, especially in the case of Ronie Vallance, the Bond producers would have already made Ralph's character public. But still, Ralph's character is Top Secret, For EON'S Eyes Only.
i would hardly call your notion of bringing back Blofeld out of the box thinking... quite the opposite - i think it's the most overly used, and cliche' suggestion time and time again.. every time a new Bond is announced, or in production - the same thing comes up, either by a fan - or the tabloid... it seems we as fans can't go a film without hearing "Is Blofeld returning?" ... "Who's playing Blofeld?" .. etc etc etc ..... it gets annoying to hear (at least to me) on a consistent basis........ going with the common trend of thought, and rumor, is not out of the box.. sorry - out of the box would be going completely the other direction (like my suggestion) because it goes against the norm of what everyone is expecting.... for example, so a search on Fiennes/Blofeld - and then one on Fiennes/M, and see what the ratio is ;-) ..... you sir, and your thinking, is safely packaged in the box..
i personally say, let Blofeld be the past - i much rather like there being no real head of Quantum - it's an organization that is constantly evolving... cut off one head, 2 more appear... Blofeld has been basterdized, parodied, and cliched to death - and I can't see Wilson and Broccoli, with the current mood of the Bond films bringing back even more cliche's .... if they aren't completely keen on bringing back Q or Moneypenny, then why in heaven's name would they bring back Blofeld? - for what reason?? - to win an Academy award?... lol.... i doubt no matter how great a Bond film is, that it'll ever get Academy recognition - and i truthfully believe the producers could really care less about that little gold statue anyway..... unless it's for original song, set design, score, or editing - I would say don't hold your breath for a Bond film to ever be nominated for best Actor/Actress, Director, Screenwriting, or Film.... if it didn't happen for Casino Royale, well then..... *shrugs*.... catch my drift?
He is interested in directing, what with his new film Coriolanus and all..
Perhaps he's signed on for M while he works on his directing gigs over the years. Enough to make some major dough on the side, and still be a large part in the acting world, but also hone in on his directing skills. The grand finale for him and Bond - after about 5 goes as M he directs his 6th and final Bond film as M.
Magic is in the air (*)
And allthough I wasn't right, I guessed it right that Ben Whishaw would play a secondary, recurring role. I am delighted he will play the new 'Q' :-D. Allthough Ralph Fiennes would never want to play 'Q', old or new version.
Can you name the puppet master from 'From Russia With Love' and 'Thunderball' :-)?

I guess his role will be small but important. It won't be a real "cameo". Madonna had a cameo in DAD. I'm sure Fiennes has a larger role in Skyfall.
hm....very interesting I wonder what can be considered a camero?
I don't want to bring this topic on again. But after reading the above quotes, doesn't it start becoming very obvious that an iconic Ian Fleming character will return again.....and will be carefully introduced during 'Skyfall' and Bond films after that 8-| ??
Stop grasping at straws.
STOP destroying some fun guessing in this forum #:-S! Guessing which actually has a base of truth. I mean, who is doing the fact research in here. Look at the quotes.
I take in account other options as well. QUANTUM could return. And the character that Ralph Fiennes is playing could also be called Nr.1 for legal reasons, making it unnecessary for the names 'Blofeld' and 'SPECTRE' to return.
And now about you. You start annoying me tremendously. This is a forum, not the editorial staff of the London Financial Times for goodness sake. Please show a bit more cheerful attitude in here, instead of all this 'fact stamping'. You make it boring in here.
Well, I have said it. I don't want to make you feel bad. But the above could be a good advice for you.
Except that we already have some (unconfirmed) information about Fiennes, suggesting he will not play Blofeld.
Well, here's some good advice for you - stop trying to convince everyone that you've somehow worked out this secret code about the details of the film, and that you're the only one who can see it. Your posts have a lecturing tone, as if you're trying to educate a group of kindergarten students that the alphabet goes A-B-C-D-E-F-G and so on.
You just can't see I am having fun in here as well, don't you :-). Now you also start implying a load of crap. That "I have worked out this secret code" and that "I am the only one seeing this". WTF.
I think your problem is, that you are irritated by me. Only plain, clear irritation. And that I really can't help. You should get used to my style of posting. And if you can't, then that is entirely your problem.
If you were empathic enough, you would know I am having fun in here. And you just...can't. I feel sorry for you though :-).
Very interesting. He calls his role a "cameo", but we know it's going to be an important one because he's Ralph Fiennes. First thought: he's the new M.
But him saying he got seduced by Logan and Mendes makes me think he's not signed up for a recurring role.
t was interesting to hear Sam Mendes say it will focus a little bit more on the characters than the action.
I think the script — it has a lot to do with my friendship with John — the script is very cool and very smart. It's a brilliantly thought-through screenplay. I think it will surprise people with just what a good story it is.
We heard about the script being great, but so far weren't sure about how action heavy it would be. So obviously it won't be another QOS...
Its also just dawned on me that Skyfall could be the Bond movie that could change the dynamic of how the Bond series has always been portrayed on a significant level. I don't think its still sunk in that Mendes is directing let alone the talent involved.
Pull the other one ;)
Anyway, I think things are looking a little bleak on the Blofeld front. There just isn't enough to latch on to there, at least for now.
