Since this is confirmation of a new game and not speculation, I felt that this news deserved its own thread.



Project 007 (working title) is a brand new James Bond video game with a wholly original story. Earn your 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story, to be developed and published by IO Interactive.

    I was only moaning yesterday about the lack of 007 games,

    If its an origin story, perhaps it ties in with Bond 26 and Craig’s replacement?

    James Bond will once again be coming to a console and computer screen near you. IO Interactive (Hitman), in collaboration with MGM, EON Productions and Delphi announced today that they are developing the very first James Bond origin story with the working title Project 007. Project 007 will feature a wholly original Bond story exclusively as a video game.

    “It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, “Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”

    Robert Marick, MGM’s Executive Vice President Global Consumer Products and Experiences, said, “James Bond has a strong legacy in the video game space, with some of the most iconic games of all-time based on the character. Working with our partners at EON and the talented team at IO Interactive, we plan to bring a new take on this legendary franchise to gamers and Bond fans around the world. IO Interactive are masters of crafting living, breathing worlds of immersive storytelling.”

    It would be nice if they could have each of the actors as playable skins, so you could choose your favourite one and play as them.

    I was thinking the same thing. You basically cast you're own Bond. So you could make Idris Elba or Daniel Craig as Bond. It basically introduces Britian's favourite pub discussion of 'who should play the new Bond' but in a game format.

    Plus, the design and look of that new gunbarrel is beautiful. If only the films had something that inspired.

    Truly the best possible Bond video game news. I'm glad the licence went to a company like them who puts so much love into their games. Hitman is basically the blueprint of what an excellent Bond game could be. I've wanted this for years! Bravo IO Interactive and I am looking forward to the game.

    IO Interactive is the developer of the popular Hitman franchise - not to be confused with iOS, of course!

    Anyone who has played both the Hitman games, like myself, and will be playing the third game coming out in January, already knows how good this could be. I'm too excited.

    There is no release date yet; the project is still starting. It might be one of the reasons that the Goldeneye 25 project was striked.
    They're hiring people to develop the game; if you are or if you know someone with enough qualifications and abilities to help the development, it'd be great.

    It's from the Hitman dev - I'm sure it'll be a fantastic game. I'm just curious about how many action will it have as it is a game about Bond before he was 007.
    I wonder: Will it be as stealthy as the Hitman games or will it have as much action as Blood Stone had?

    IO Interactive are the best possible development team for the Bond property. The Hitman games have levels that are living breathing worlds and full of easter eggs, funny situations, great stealth moments and fun as hell shoot-outs. This is going to be one to remember. I can feel it.

    Well as a huge fan of both properties, I'm totally blown away by this. If it's anything like the 'Hitman' series, we're in for a real treat. Wow. Truly didn't expect this news today, as I figured the Bond gaming series was dead for years to come.

    A new Bond game (developed by IO, no less) is certainly not the news I expected to wake up to. Having played the first Hitman, this is incredibly intriguing and EON/MGM couldn’t have chosen a better developer.

    so this will be a seperate timeline from the movies... shame but curious to see if it will take place in the 50s/60/s or todays time

    Probably all current and next gen (ie. PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Series S/X), as well as PC. Possibly Switch as well considering IO is attempting that via cloud streaming for the upcoming Hitman 3. In any event - many options for play!

    Yes, they should be supporting last gen for another 2-3 years so unless this one is insanely far out, it should reach all consoles and PC.

    I was hoping for a 6th Grand Theft Auto instalment or a new Bond game to entice me back into gaming and buy a PS5. Never for a second did I think the latter would come first. I’m incredibly excited.

    So some obvious questions which i don't know if anyone vknows the answers but here we go


    1. is it set in todays time or in the 50's
    2. Who will be bond?
    3. Will Casino Royale or Forever and A Day be any kind of influence on the game?
    4. Will they do a random Goldeneye remake/cash in as well (the last question is a joke but still)

    The period thing is an interesting question: it seems possible, but this also seems to be very much a Bond movies adaptation from the use of music, 007 logo & gunbarrel so I would guess it's not likely to be a 50s one as the movies never went there. But then they seem to be doing a new version of his origin, so who knows..?

    As to who will be Bond my guess would be that they'd be making their own unique Bond and not one from the movie: so like the Spider Man and other Marvel games are kind of close to but separate to the movies, with their own versions of the main characters. Craig will be effectively gone as Bond by the time it's out (and doing his origin again would be a weird move) and it seems very unlikely that the next movie Bond will have been cast. I don't really feel it's likely you'd get the chance to pick from the old Bonds as that would cost loads, and if I played as Roger I'd want it to be in a Roger style game.

    Funny to see the EON logo underneath the 007 logo.

    It makes sense for IO to move onto this as the next Hitman game to come out in January is the last of a trilogy, so they can solely focus on this new James Bond game.

    Plus with all the advancements in video games, this could easily be the best Bond game ever.

    To tackle some of the other questions:
    My guess for timeline is basically our time but slightly futuristic, which is a video game staple and also typical Bond.

    Nowadays we get actual actors playing lead characters in triple-A video games lending the voice and sometimes likeness and some Mo-Cap stuff. I would prefer a "original likeness" so to speak and not an actor...

    As for GoldenEye. Probably not a straight cash-in remake, but I can absolutely see IO putting some kind of nod to it in the new game. They seem to have a good sense of humour. Either just an Easter Egg or (depending on rights) maybe even a remade level as DLC.

    Yeah I would imagine they may even hope for this to become a series of games, so it would seem logical to invent their own unique Bond as Craig is reaching the end of the road. His contract to do things like this is probably finished too.

    No gameplay yet so I wouldn't be surprised if it's not here until 2022 (though then again, they could be much further along than they're showcasing, so anything's possible). Hitman 3 development might keep them tied up a bit longer too.

    And to think I had accepted that we wouldn't have another Bond game, then IO Interactive go and announce this. It's funny, a few days ago, there was an article on PushSquare (I think it was them), about IO Interactive announcing a new project in a few days. Turns out to be Bond!

    An origin story? So it'll be its own thing, as opposed to be shakled the films? They'll have some freedom, that's good. Given how good Hitman '16 and Hitman 2 were, I have high hopes for this. It's been too long since we've had a Bond game, and even longer since we had a good one.
