I'd take a Jimmy Bond game over a codename theory game any day.

Don't panic, EON would never do that.

Some new comments via an office visit to IO Interactive:

"The few other breadcrumbs we're able to pick up in the office suggest a tone closer to Daniel Craig than Roger Moore, and perhaps a more scripted experience than Hitman's freeform jaunts," the magazine reads, before referring to a quote from Abran. "It's been pitched as 'the ultimate spycraft fantasy,' which suggests gadgets - and perhaps a step away from the murderous objectives of Agent 47," the story continues.

Once again, it'll take inspiration from the entire film series but will be an all new, original Bond.

It’ll be interesting to see what the age rating is for this one, because you can’t really style your way around violence with a game like you can with a film. The bloodless shootouts were looking very dated compared to other games by the time Legends came out, and that was over a decade ago. Could this game end up being the first 18/R rated Bond?

Be interesting to see when it’s set as well, with the comments one of them made about it being based on the “first Bond”. Probably a mistranslation, but could it mean we’re getting a period piece? Which might rule out the films going down that route next, because they really seem to be emphasising how this is a different Bond.

I hope there’s a nice mix of open ended, Hitman sort of levels, and more scripted Uncharted style setpieces. And driving too of course.

Me too, @thelivingroyale. I don't need a full sandbox world in every single mission but a little bit of exploration and freedom to balance out the more linear aspects would be perfect.

Wow in seeing the new comments i am getting excited

I have a thought of how the game will play out

My thought is that we will see the first two kills as the first two levels of the game similar to hitman where you have your client you have to kill

A new excerpt from an IO Interactive interview sheds more light on what to expect from Project 007 - something more in line with Daniel Craig's Bond rather than Moore's take on 007, one that's more linear than their 'Hitman' titles and a game that actively discourages murder. Perhaps it'll be more story and spycraft driven?

And for fans of the series like me, we get another confirmation that, while it may be a while, more Hitman is eventually on the way.

"So what do we know about 007? Well, it's no secret that IO is casting its own Bond and rewinding to the character's youth to tell an origin story. The few other breadcrumbs we're able to pick up during our time in the office suggest a tone closer to Daniel Craig than Roger Moore, and perhaps a more scripted experience than Hitman's freeform jaunts. It's been pitched as "the ultimate spycraft fantasy", which suggests gadgets – and perhaps a step away from the murderous objectives of Agent 47.

This final point seems to be supported by the way IO convinced James Bond owner Eon Productions to hand it the licence. "Our impression was clearly that they were not looking for a game," Abrak says. "And I think it's fair to say that they might not have been super-happy with some of the later games." Moving away from "action-oriented shooters", in Elverdam's words, seems to have been part of his pitch, presenting Hitman as a game in which violence is actually discouraged – with the exception of one or two very specific murders per level, of course. "That helped us convince the Eon Group that there's a sophistication in how we treat the agent fantasy."

There's one final connection to Hitman we need to investigate. Given that Abrak and Elverdam's big idea for World Of Assassination – and the thing that, ultimately, rescued the whole operation – was to deliver it gradually, over multiple years, do they have a similar vision for 007? "Yeah, absolutely," Abrak says. "I mean, that's the dream. That's the ambition. And it's also how we always talked about it." IO isn't interested in making a licensed game just "to score some money", he says, adding that it's turned down offers from "several other IP holders". It all depends on how the first game performs, of course, but Elverdam is clear about his hopes. "I would love players to look back on multiple Bond games by IO and go, 'Wow, that was quite a journey!'" Standing up from the conference table – its chibi Agent 47 still bearing marks of wear and tear that won't quite rub off – it occurs to us it's a sentiment that could just as easily apply to the first 25 years of IO Interactive as a whole."

I do, sorry. Tried to quote the pertinent information toward the end of the article but forgot the link. Here you go.

That's the world of video games for you. I wouldn't expect anything proper and concrete for another year or two at least.

It's a little weird that EON would not be happy with a heavy shooter video game but at the same time produce NTTD which was largely reliant on heavy shooter video game style action

Ok so bond will use a machine gun on the game and you can duck and cover

I mean all that is obvious based on third person shooters over the last 30 years but let me pretend like we have knew info

Not that its a race but Indianna jones was announced AFTER project 007 and yet we are getting it this year …

Sorry but i dont believe this game is ever coming

Cautiously optimistic for this. In any case, at least it shows EON etc have learned something from the (IMO) debacles that were 007 Legends and Goldeneye Reloaded. Bond games have the potential to be so much more than Call-of-Duty clones.

The game will apparently feature both first and third person perspectives:

As someone who was expecting third person all the way, this would come as a surprise. But it would be a clear difference to their work on Hitman. The PS3 Quantum of Solace game had a hybrid setup which worked okay. I’m hoping the third person here would also refer to the use of vehicles.

This is exciting news. I'll be eager to see how it's incorporated. In QoS, I loved the first person play in general but the incorporation of third person when using cover. Here? If you're playing in third person in general, then I wonder what will justify the first person perspective - cutscenes? Driving sections? Puzzles?

It could mean third person with first person gun sights, or first person with third person peek around corners and driving. Still have to wait and see.

I really hope it's not the first, unless that's just via sniper sequences or something. I don't like the Ghost Recon-type style where everything is first person but you snap to third person anytime you fire.

There's a COD mission (will never remember which game) where the entire mission is scoped-in as a like Delta Ops sniper, I could see them doing a mission like that. Think Skyfall skyscrapers etc. But you're right, I hope and imagine it won't be that straightforward, but indeed creative I hope.

It could also mean that the player has the option to play in first or third person modes, akin to GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2.

Of course. That does tho seem to be the most challenging option from a dev standpoint, I'd think. Render everything in two modes. Or maybe it's the simplest, I wouldn't know.

Yeah I would think it's much harder to give players both options. It doesn't always work out (looking at you, Fallout 4, where the aim was forever broken in third person for no good reason).

I think the goal is to release this video game along with Bond 26 or at least in the same year.

That'd be the smartest approach. It's crazy it's been over a decade since we last had that with 007 Legends, and my personal favorite, Quantum of Solace before that. It's still crazy to think we had three new Bond games in just four years, and now it's been 12 years since the last one (mobile titles aside). Depressing.
