It was already on the Grammy ballot before the film was pushed back to April 2021.

I think the Oscars should have it's own thread because NTTD just made it onto five of the short lists. Bond could turn out to be a major contender this year.

Sounds impressive, five out of ten categories: Song; Score; Sound; Visual Effects & Makeup and Hairstyling. I didn't even know the latter was a category.

    Here's the list:

I wonder, is this maybe a harbinger for other, major-category nominations? Cinematography, perhaps? Even Best Picture, however unlikely ... ?

Almost certainly not, regardless of how deserving Craig may or may not be. The Academy would never vote that way.

The Academy likes movies about America (or that have America/American in the title), or movies about themselves (Hollywood); it's likely that Andrew Garfield will get a nom for Tick Tick Boom where he plays the guy who wrote Rent.
  • I really wish there would be an Oscar award for best stunt work.

Lol definitely not. When you have the likes of Denzel's Macbeth and Andrew Garfield's performance in Tick Tick Boom and others, no way Craig is getting an Oscar nomination.

Are you suggesting his performance was "not gooood?"
  • Haha, that line and some of Craig's other line readings and acting choices weren’t good but overall not a bad performance.

Interesting, I didn't find any anything negative in Craig's performance.

I liked his line, "That's...that's not goood". He said it with some concern, and the nod he gives just before it is great too.

I would think it needs a lot more than just "not negative" to be recognized by the Academy.

Oscar nomination list (so far) is pretty impressive - NTTD nominated in every category that it’s eligible for

The Blofeld scene would be enough to disqualify him for me. He's immense overall, but I don't know what he was at there.

Anyway, good to see the stunts being recognised. Apart from Eilish's song though, the category I hope NTTD gets recognised in is cinematography. Rewatching the other night and I'm still struck by how good the film looked.

Same. Was talking to a friend the other day and we both came to a conclusion that all these films with nine-figure budgets really have no excuse to not look as good as "No Time to Die" does, yet basically all of them look orders of magnitude works. The stuff in Matera is all-time good, not to mention all that chiaroscuro going on throughout the film (particularly in Safin's base near the end).

I didn’t mind the Blofeld scene… Bond was certainly acting unusually, but that was a Bond choice, not a Craig choice.

I don't think there's much of a distinction between the two really. Craig is ultimately the one giving the performance, and Bond comes across as quite weak and pathetic in that scene because of how he carries it. I'd be curious to see the script and find out if there was any indicators on paper for comparison, but either way, the scene was ruined for me by that. Craig came across quite well opposite Waltz in SP by underplaying lines. Here, it felt like they were trying to out-cheese each other.

Fair enough. It didn't take me out at all; to me it was clearly Bond acting a specific way, trying to get something out of Blofeld. But if it took you out, that sucks for you.

Either way, Daniel Craig will not be receiving a Best Actor trophy from the Academy.
