Thank you. That'd be good. :)
No no... please have these discussions publicly... seems like there's a great deal to learn from discussions such as these by smart people. :D
I think the late @barryt007 had an old World War II thread that could maybe be revived to discuss some of this stuff.
No, you've fitted in very well here as have the other IMDb refugees who came here when the forums there closed down in February 2017. Their loss was definitely our gain as it added a lot of knowledgeable people from all walks of life to our ranks. Good to have you all here.
Over at the tweeter site: https://twitter.com/classic_film, they are holding a tournament style elimination game for 60's spy movies. You can follow along using the hashtag #1960sSpyMovies.
Thus far, Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and OHMSS have won their respective brackets. Thunderball and You Only Live Twice have been voted out, having lost to CHARADE (1963) and THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD.
The book's authors make claims for Spillane's "broader influence, the extent of which might now be overlooked. Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale (1953), they argue convincingly, was an espionage twist on I, the Jury, with a similar cocktail of sex and sadism. (Signet’s first Bond reprint, From Russia with Love, sold Bond as 'Mickey Spillane in gentleman’s clothing'."
Are there any Spillane fans here who agree?
In other news, Penguin has updated its page on the upcoming Ian Fleming biography by Nicholas Shakespeare, to be released Oct. 5.
James Bond Day. Yes, it's very apt. I'm looking forward to this new biography of Ian Fleming and discovering what new information has been uncovered by Nicholas Shakespeare in his extensive research and access to new sources. Great photo of Fleming on the cover too. Don't think I've seen that one before.
We're only ten days apart then. Mine's the 14th (also Roger's birthday). This book will definitely be an early birthday present to myself.

For those interested, GOLDFINGER and THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE are the two finalists.
One million dollars, at the current rate of exchange minus the fees and certain… unforeseeable expenses.
