Yes, and I remember someone here (possibly yourself?) mentioning this before and it's hard to refute that this would have ultimately made for a better film. I think the problem with TMWTGG as a film is that it starts off being about Bond being seemingly pursued by Scaramanga, the most dangerous assassin in the world but ends up being about the Solex Agitator MacGuffin. The two seemingly disparate elements of the plot coalesce around the figure of Scaramanga. No doubt the lack of focus in the film is due to the source novel where the threats to the sugar industry in Jamaica etc. were merely discussed by the Hood's Congress and not fully acted upon. It was all rather low-stakes and passive rather than active.
I agree. Scaramanga deserves another run out in a better film.
I'm not aware of the line.
I'm sure you are, if you think about it. It's one of the most quotable lines in the film.
I don't blame you for that. I've not seen it for ages myself and the last time I was about to watch it on Blu-ray I had a power cut! 🙃
Know The Game
A play on the Official Secrets Act. It came to me the other day while out for a walk. It might be a bit corny, though.
'Smell Of Murder'
Dying In Your Arms
Games Of Chance
Shock To The System
The Pleasure Of Silence
Dreaming Of Danger
Shadowlife
Out Of Time
Shock to the System is quite Flemingesque I think. It's rather like the style of title he used to use. Sounds a bit like the US Perma Books retitled Fleming Bond novels You Asked For It (Casino Royale) and Too Hot to Handle (Moonraker) too.
Yeah, like that one 👍
Sort of ''Wall'' from Writings On The Wall and The Mask symbol. When in Dutch ''Hoe hangt de vlag erbij ?'' (How hangs the flag ?) is just ask ''How do you do?'' in difficult time or after a long time you haven't seen somebody.
When table's turn The Tables of Death
CLIMATE CHANGE
Asking For It is also kinda good, though a little unbalanced for some reason. Too Hot To Handle is good but maybe not for Moonraker imo.
The Count Of Three
In For A Shock
Eat Them For Breakfast
Everywhere Or Nowhere
Mirror Of The Mind
The Meek Ones (The Society of the Meek Ones seems a bit too long).
Children of the Last Days (COLD acronym).
I particularly like the second one, it's mysterious and ominous sounding.
Yes, and it's one of Gardner’s best Bond novels in my opinion, quite prescient in its focus on suicide bombers and brainwashed religious extremists. It might be too close to the bone though in that respect as Eon wisely try to steer clear of political topics for the most part.
Yes, it's certainly a good one to follow after NTTD.
