i wrote this in the style of a treatment, not an actual story with dialog and all of that... it's just basically going through the series of events in the story.... and forgive me for not being from England, I don't know the exact layouts of some of the cities, so if it sounds like they are going around in circles - i apologize, but do play along with it lol....
RED DOOMSDAY (part 1)
- a dead body is found floating in the Thames - DNA sampling from the body confirms the victim as one of england's top biochemists, Nigel Hawthorne.
- Bond is called in by M to investigate the matter, find out who the culprit is and why they would want a respected biochemist dead.
- M hands over a dossier on Hawthorne - which included every bit of personal detail, including, current living quarters, marital status (unmarried), and also a bit of a literary nut - graduated at the top of his class in 1971 - brought on by the government in 1984 to head up development of bioweaponry research. was part of secret project known as "Red Doomsday" in late 1980s - which involved the development of a militarized bioagent, called "Chemical 99", which was to be put into action should the Soviets decide to flex their nuclear muscles - the bioagent worked as an airborn virus, that could quickly spread from person to person, contaminating a city the size of London within only a few days time - incurable - symptoms started off as common flu like symptoms, but within 24 hours would send the victim into a paralyzed state - in 48 hours the vicitim would be dead.... but the fall of the Soviet Union ceased all further work on Chemical 99 and the Red Doomsday project.
- 007 drives to the victim's home just outside of London, to do some inspection of the man's dwelling - to see if anything about his private life could offer up any clues to his murder... forensics havent had to time to make their rounds and make a mess out of everything as they often did.. James quickly went through the obvious, and started scanning through the man's personal files and research data... everything was at it should be, but he noticed that Nigel's research on Chemical 99 was missing, not one piece of paper was left behind... Bond had initially had a hunch, and was now proven right, whoever killed Nigel was obviously after his research, but now it was time to find out who that person was...
- Bond noticed in the fire place a half burnt note, which read "09/30. The Waters Of Sulis. Chase the Dowler and Winkle." ... it was cryptic, but not cryptic enough.... The Waters Of Sulis was in reference to Aquae Sulis, which was the roman name for the city now known as Bath... Chase the Dowler and Winkle was eluding to Charles Dickens' book "The Pickwick Papers" - a chase at the Royal Crescent in Bath occured between two characters named Dowler and Winkle... 9/30 then must've been the date - which was a day from now...... so Nigel was meeting someone in the Royal Crescent in Bath on September 30.. so whoever he was meeting, obviously didn't arrange to have him killed before hand, so that meant that whoever got to Nigel first was more than likely on their way to Bath to do the same to whoever he was meeting.
- Bond jumps in his Continental GT and drives out to Bath.. when he arrives, he pulls up to The Royal Crescent Hotel, and checks into one of the suites, under the name Nigel Hawthorne. Bond's suite comes with an open view of lush green garden inside the Creascent itself.. he excuses himself to a quiet drink before taking a short nap.
- the next day Bond wakes up, does his usual routine, gets dressed and heads down to the hotel lobby - he walks up to the front desk and asks if there were any messages... the receptionist hands him a white envelope.. the envelope was plain, with only the intials N.H. on the front... Bond tears open the envelope and pulls out a small piece of paper that reads "Circus Tree. Noon."
- Bond gets his GT from the vallet, and drives down the road from the Crescent, to area known as The Circus, which was a circle of buildings, with a garden and a big tree in the middle of it... he parked his car, and decided to walk about the area... he had time, but wanted to scope out the garden area and surrounding areas to make sure there were no signs of danger... Noon time had come, and Bond noticed a woman had walked from one of the near by benches, and stood under the tree... She wasn't as old as Nigel, in fact much younger - mid 30's by his best guess. Dark hair, olive skin, wore dark rimmed glasses, and wore an equally dark long coat, with a red scarf.. She looked at her watch, and then around - starting to appear anxious... Bond walked over to her.
- Bond casually walked up and asked her if she was waiting for a Nigel Hawthorne... she didn't answer him.. Bond then pressed the issue a little further and told her that Nigel wasn't able to make it, and that he sent him in his place, his name was Bond, James Bond... when she asked why Nigel wasn't able to make it, Bond told her he was found dead - he further went on to tell her that he was with MI6, and he has reason to believe that her life might be in danger, and that she needs to come with him immeadiately... She tells Bond she doesn't believe him and starts to walk away in a hurried pace... Bond catches up to quickly and tells her that he was at Nigel's place and caught the note she wrote him - and whoever killed Nigel was obviously going to come after her as well.. She again pulled away from Bond,
- Two local officers who were standing off to the side talking, took notice - from their point of view, it looked like, two lovers having a public dispute... they started their walk over..
- Bond sees the two officers walking over, so he slows his pace after the woman... just then a black Rover came speeding around the Circus.. James heard the squeeling tires - he quickly ran and jumped on the woman, knocking her to the ground just as a spray of automatic gunfire blitzed through the air... the two officers caught the wave of bullets, and fell instantly to the ground - but it obvious they weren't the target, it was the woman... and now 007 just turned himself into one as well... The Rover never slowed momentum, and was going around the circus for another pass, as civilians scattered for cover... Bond jerked the woman to her feet and all but dragged her to his car.. 007 roared his GT to life, and floored the pedal, and with a mighty squeel of his tires, and throaty roar of the engine he and the woman sped off as the Rover behind them start firing at them.. Bond circled the Circus as well before speeding down past and beyond the Royal Crescent and on through Bath. The chase barreled past the Abbey and Roman Baths, as the Rover was able to keep up with Bond GT - carefully matching his driving.. a spray of bullets ripped apart the back window of the Bently, as the young woman tried to slide low into the seat to protect herself... They sped around the city streets, before Bond made a turn that ended up losing them - but he knew they'd be back... Bond spun the GT to stop right close to the Parade Gardens... he reached inside his jacket and pulled out his Walther - he opened the door, and crouched behind it, using it as a barracade - he told the girl to stay put...... The Rover came speeding down the route Bond had lost them with, and when they throttled into distance - Bond fired a series of succesive rounds into the driverside of the windsheild... the black Rover spun wildly out of control, flipped and rolled over the wall, landing in the Paradise Gardens - which sent civilians scattering.. The Rover was completely totalled.
- Bond quickly ran down to the Ranger Rover, which was turned over on it's roof.. Bond had his Walther ready to fire out in front of him as he approached the wreck with caution.. the people who had once scattered now began to slowly inch back towards their wrecked SUV in curiosity... Bond kicked open the driver side door and gazed - the two men inside were in a heap - motionless - dead.. their faces covered in blood and shattered glass.. James reached inside one of the dead man's pocket and managed to pull out an ID (obviously fake, but no matter).. he quickly made note of the Rover's tag number and jogged back to his GT - where much to his surprise, his female passenger had vanished... Bond did a quick scan of the immediate area, no one... James couldn't waste time trying to find this woman now, the police were on their way to scene, and Bond had to phone in his report to Section 6...
