Your favourite Bond theme song from each actor's tenure?

Connery - "Diamonds Are Forever" - this was tough as there were so many great themes during Sean's tenure. "Goldfinger" really is the, erm... gold standard. "You Only Live Twice" is beautiful. "Thunderball" is bombastic. But "Diamonds Are Forever" beats them all (for me). Bassey's voice. Those sublime notes. John Barry's orchestration. And just listen to that bass.

Lazenby - "On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Main Title" - The absolute best of John Barry. What else can you say? That bass. The orchestration. The brass and of course the Moog. While The Beatles were adding it to Abbey Road here we have Barry mastering it. Making what is quite simply irresistable music. Yes, "We Have All The Time In The World" is fantastic. But it isn't the title track.

Moore - "Live And Let Die" - It's only one of the blooming Beatles. Macca is on fire here. Great piano playing. Great drumming. The bass (he's ond of the best ever) and a Big George Martin score. If you're not a Beatles fan it can't be described enough just how massively influential George Martin is. And hd always worked best with Paul. Where Macca is somewhat lightweight is his lyrics. Not so here. They are sublime. Concise and too the point. Listen to Martin's brass as it builds to a crescendo. It has reggae. A screaming McCartney vocal. It's a belter.

Dalton - "Licence To Kill" - Another tough decision. As I love "The Living Daylights" and it's also the last Barry. But "Licence To Kill" runs down the wing and scores the goal to take the victory. This is a traditional Bond theme. From the opening "Goldfinger" pastiche. And Gladys Knight sans The Pips, voice is like velvet. Stunning song that sets up the movie perfectly.

Brosnan - "The World Is Not Enough" - Again this was tough. As, apart from "Die Another Day" Brosnan had crackers. I love "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Goldeneye" (if you can, check out the U2 demo. With Bono singing in his MacPhisto voice). But "The World Is Not Enough" is a gorgeous song. Those strings give it a "classic" feel. Stunning vocals from Miss Manson and a truly epic song. In my opinion the last we've had.

Craig - "No Time To Die" - This is were Craig's tenure has lacked. As apart from "No Time To Die" I think all of Daniel's theme's have been poor. Not just poor but actual stinkers. Completely undeserving for a Bond theme. It's as if they have just given up these days. So, "No Time To Die" wins by default for me. But, even though I think it's a good song. I don't think it fits the movie. I just like it better than all the other Craig theme songs.

Diamonds Are Forever (aging like a fine brandy--no really, go listen to it again)
    OHMSS
Nobody Does It Better (my all-time favorite, unlikely ever to be topped)
The Living Daylights (they're both terrible, but this one is at least original)
The World Is Not Enough (best of a mediocre lot)
You Know My Name (instantly iconic, followed by a disastrous duet, and three derivative dirges)

Only including actors with more than one outing since the OHMSS theme wins Lazenby’s tenure by default. Great track though nonetheless.

    Connery; Diamonds Are Forever
Moore; The Man with the Golden Gun
    Dalton; The Living Daylights
Brosnan; The World Is Not Enough
    Craig; No Time to Die

  • 1) Connery - YOLO
    2) Lazenby - we know it 😊
    3) Moore - Nobody does it better
    4) Dalton - TLD
    5) Brosnan - TND
    6) Craig - Skyfall

I don't dislike TLD and really enjoy TWINE, but these are also my picks.

Sorry, simple answers, I guess (provided it's "songs", not "themes":

Connery era: Goldfinger (narrowly beating YOLT, which makes the better soundtrack.)
Lazenby: WHATTITW. Among the best Bond songs ever.
Moore: Nobody Does It Better (apologies to Live and Let Die, but Carly takes the cake)
Dalton: Licence to Kill (never cared for a-ha, but this is at any rate the most Bondian)
Brosnan: Surrender (shamelessly relegated to the closing credits, but so much better than Sheryl Crow's theme. And even better than Tina's GoldenEye, as much as I adore Tina.
    Craig: YKMN...the rest is inferior.

Lets shake things up here a bit:

Craig...You Know My Name bloody brilliant lyrics and great vocals. Love the beat and the pace of the song. It doesn't sound "Bondian" but it didn't need to when re-booting the character. Nice that it could be referenced during the film itself in cues and bits.

Brosnan...The World Is Not Enough the whole thing just works. It has a timeless element. The lyrics are clever and reference some of the upcoming movie, but not in a spoiler way. Love the vocal stylings of Garbage!

Dalton...Licence to Kill is it a bit too on the nose with samples of GF? Sure, but as Dalton himself said in an interview "We've got a big song, a bloody brilliant song" I am slightly paraphrasing but clearly Tim liked it! I enjoy Gladys Knight and her vocal styling

Moore...For Your Eyes Only I enjoy how Sheena sings with passion and panache. The lyrics are cleverly a switch from Top Secret documents to a lover and a relationship. The music is well done and has a Bondian feel without going OTT.

Connery....Diamonds Are Forever by far the toughest to judge as these were all brilliant in their own right. The sly lyrics and Bassey's delivery put it over GF. I love how playful the song is and how it matches the tone of the film perfectly.

I’m listening to sports talk on local radio and they just used “You Know My Name” as bumper music when going to a commercial break. That’s my favorite Craig era song.

I have to say I'm not surprised. It's my favourite Craig's Bond theme song too. Maybe I've listened to it a Billion times and I'm still listening to it.
