    I've been pretty indifferent to OHMSS, I've been furiously trying to prop up TSWLM 😅 but I agree it's should be in the top 5. From my perspective it's a return to the 'classic' Bond adventure. It's my favourite of the Blofeld Trilogy for how tight the story is, and for Bond going undercover and the tension he's going to be found out. But the marriage to Tracy reflecting the shift to a more introspective Bond. Tracy is undoubtedly better in the film but with it being such a close adaptation it's two slide of the same coin, with the book I don't have to listen to Lazenby's accent or the dubbing thereof.

    Yes, but plotwise, it's not as strong as FRWL, DN and CR.

    I mean is brainwashing allergic women to spread viruses is really that better than the likes of FRWL, CR, and DN? 😅

    Just curious, and it's been kind of a mystery to me, too.

    I think OHMSS is the best Bond novel. Just because I think it is Flemings most well-written novel. Sure, it's not the strongest plot, but plot isn't everything. It has strong themes that Fleming manages to carry throughout the novel, while not once losing the suspense and adventure.

    CR is mythical just because it's the first, but I rarely find it that good when reading it. I love it for what it is, but it's not one of the better ones for me. All characters are rather weak, even Bond himself, and I really feel this is Fleming being new to writing. The plot is excellent and some chapters really shines, you can see something great in there that hasn't been refined yet, but as a suspense novel it doesn't flow.

    As thriller literature I really find OHMSS, FRWL and MR the best of the Bonds, but have a soft spot for the entertainment of DN and some others.

    Oh no, I've already shot my bolt for today. I think it's better than Dr No personally but I'd be happy for it end up just shy of the top five. As for OHMSS even with Lazenby I would still take the film over the novel for Tracy alone, but Fleming lays such a good foundation. I agree with @Kronsteen it's wonderfully well written and I don't mind the weaker plot as Blofeld's clearly started his spiral into madness that culminates in YOLT.

    Maybe a reread would change my opinion, but I also didn’t think CR was one of the best ones. I enjoy it a lot, but just have several I found more entertaining. I’m surprised but delighted to see how well TSWLM is doing. OHMSS I considered my favorite Bond novel, but I’m not 100% sure thanks to stiff competition from MR and DN.

    I disagree, Vesper is better than Tracy (who's absent in so many pages and inconsistent in terms of characterization), there's also a feeling that Vesper loves Bond, something that I don't see in Tracy (did she loved Bond?) Bond loved her, but Tracy? Did she loved Bond? Because I don't see it.

    Le Chiffre is also better villain than Blofeld.

    Mathis is at least never said anything regarding rape compared to Draco, Mathis is more friendly than Draco, more likeable.

    The only thing I liked in OHMSS are Bond (yes, he's really great, the way Fleming wrote him), and Fleming's writing.

    Will admit, these are some pretty great Bond novels. TSWLM just happens to be the weakest for me (I'm actually more of a fan of it than others I've spoken to who have read it, it just has some flaws for me such as the ending).

    Moonraker is my favorite, with FRWL as a very close second. Then it’s probably Casino Royale. I also have weak spots for LALD with the Voodoo theme and also like YOLT a lot with the whole garden of death and Blofeld in a japanese castle. Was very disappointed how they adapted this theme in NTTD :(

    Interesting, how different you can experience the same material! As we say in Sweden: the taste is like your bum - divided... (really bad translation, but there you go).
